Yes, she charges $150-$160 per cleaning and I will be giving her $200 in cash plus either some candy or homemade cookies. She has only been cleaning for me for a few months but I absolutely love her -- she is worth every penny! And I doubly appreciate her because it was really tough hiring a cleaner at all. The labor shortage is real!

This thread has reminded me to stop at the bank tomorrow and make a Christmas card!
My gal comes once a month and takes about 2 hrs to clean. She just brought on a 2nd person who hasn't been here yet (wednesday will be their 1st visit here).

I was going to have to run over to either Target or Meijer and get a gift card for someone else. So I've decided to pull these gift cards out and gift them to someone else. And I will give my cleaners a double payment. Thank you for the feedback. I didn't know the etiquette.

It does seem like a lot. I'm wondering about this too. I have them (it's a business and 2 of them come) coming on Thursday but it's only the 2nd time they will have been here. It seems a bit excessive to have to tip a full cleaning ($175) when I've only just begun using them. I'm not quite sure what to do here. I was in the same situation when I started. I just gave them $50 since they had only been to my house once. I pay $75 for every 2 weeks and 2 girls come.

I have in the past for the owner, plus $50-$25 gift cards and treats for each of her 3-4 workers.
We have a new cleaner who has been with us a few months and we pay more than ever with less space to clean. This year I did two $50 gift cards for her and her worker.
I'm never sure the tips are shared with the workers, so I like to do something directly for them.

I do tip a full cleaning, that being said she has been cleaning for me for a long time, and my house is small I only pay $100.00 per cleaning.

We're not required to give her anything. We pay her $85 a cleaning. We gave her a check for $50 yesterday. That's what we give her every year.

I tip the full cleaning amount ($200). It’s a husband and wife and they’ve been helping me avoid hated chores for many years now! 😄

Just had a team of two sisters come for the first time last week. they'll be coming every other week but won't likely start until Jan, so this year I won't be tipping them. I feel it an extreme privilege and luxury to be able to hire someone to do these tasks that I don't want to do. I think the people who clean our toilets deserve to be tipped well! Our previous housecleaner was with us for over 10 years. She sadly died of ovarian cancer about a year ago, far too young. I tipped her at least the amount we paid her for each visit, which was $125 (plus I always went to Costco while she was here and picked up a couple of items as a gift for her, after checking with her what she would most like to have). In addition I gave her nice cookies and chocolates for the holidays.

I tip the entire amount (over $200) but there are usually 2-3 cleaners and they split it among themselves. I also write a nice note thanking them.

I’ve also been wondering if I’m tipping my house cleaners correctly at Christmas. I have two girls that come every other week. I give them a nice tip at Christmas, but not the whole cost of the cleaning. But I also tip them generously when they clean every two weeks. Are y’all also tipping regularly for the cleanings throughout the year as well as the cost of the full cleaning at Christmas?

I need someone to tell me if this is a faux pas too? LOL! Clearly I'm new to this.

We have a weekly housekeeper. She has been with us for about 4 months. We pay $120 per week so I am going to tip her $100. Our previous housekeeper was with us for 10 years and I always gave her an extra 2 weeks pay for Christmas plus a few gifts.

My cleaning lady came today. I usually pay her $130 every 2 weeks and today along with her check I gave her $100 in cash. She does not work through an agency, not sure that matters though.

glory77 and jeremysgirl, I’ve never tipped my housekeeper on a regular basis. Sometimes her daughter comes to help and I might send a little extra cash her way. Otherwise, only at Christmas and her birthday. If I had people (employees/contractors) from a service, then I guess I might think about tipping them. The services take a huge chunk of the price you pay.

For regular cleaning, I don't give a tip. However, I've given a tip if I ask for something significantly extra.

I use a service, 3-4 people per team, I tip $20 each visit (once/month) and tipped $140 for the holidays. My cleaning change is $256.

Mine come once a week. When it is the owner I pay $250 because she does an excellent job. But if she sends some of her girls instead I pay $225. I upped what I was paying during covid because I know they lost a lot of clients. We leave the house while they are here and have air filters running. I pay via paypal every week. I tip a full cleaning on the last cleaning before the holidays. I also tend to pay them at least something if I cancel a week on them because I feel bad because I know they depend on the income and they have been very good to us.

Yes I did. Plus we paid her extra this month to go through all our bathroom and kitchen cabinets and clean and reorganize them. It was amazing.
