No. Our high school is the rival to Oxford HS. Oxford and our school are now only allowing clear backpacks, but no metal detectors. Many parents are screaming for metal detectors, though. I think both measures are band aids on a much bigger problem. I agree 100%. I live in SE MI and am well aware of the Oxford shooting and have seen and heard parents screaming for metal detectors. I think it's a first reaction proposed solution, but in reality although metal detectors would most likely keep guns / knives out of the school, it would not stop someone from shooting before or after school outside when many students are present. Unfortunately, if a person has it in their mind to cause havoc and maim or kill, as sad and frightening as it sounds, I think they will find a way.

no. i can't even imagine.
our board voted to remove police officers out of high schools a couple of years ago (they were only in certain schools, maybe a dozen). parents and community activists lobbied saying it promoted anti-black racism and made school feel like an unsafe place for students of colour.
there have been incidents since the removal, but they are not common and anecdotally, i don't think there has been any significant increase in incidents. this is in a city of 3 million people and the 4th largest city in north america.
