My son and his partner arrived here in Seattle from NYC at 10:30 last night. I brought a couple of covid tests with me to the airport and they both tested before getting in my car. Son is positive (with symptoms) and partner is negative (with symptoms just starting). So, instead of 10 days of fun, they’re now locked up in the guest room/office and every single thing we had planned is cancelled.
Wish us all luck. I’d like to escape this if I can (I have 3 risk factors), so I’m doing everything that’s posted on the CDC website about preventing spread to a T.
Happy (stinking) Holidays to us.
Oh and FTR, they hosted an unmasked, untested Christmas party on Saturday. I’d bet that’s where they contracted it. I thought they were smarter than that.
And, they had to contact the airline - please make sure to wear your masks properly while flying! I’m sick about the fact that a completely full flight has potentially been exposed.

Oh no! What a damn shame. I hope that party was worth it.
You were smart to have them test. I’m crossing my fingers that you stay well. I was exposed a few weeks ago and didn’t get it. I credit masks and the booster.

I don't mean this as a hand slap for them, please don't take it that way! Why didn't they test before leaving NY? Did they know you were going to test them?
I hope they're both on the mend soon and that you remain negative!!

I hope they're both on the mend soon and that you remain negative!! Valid question. They home tested on Monday night and it came back negative. Still symptomatic on Tuesday, my son went for a PCR test that morning. Results still weren’t back on Wednesday night when it was time to leave, so my son assumed it was just a cold and got in the plane. In hindsight, he should have taken another home test on Wednesday before flying. 31 and 37 years old. Like I said, I thought they were smarter than this. I found out about all this when they landed.

Oh no! I'm so sorry, that's absolutely gutting for you! I really hope your son doesn't feel too bad and that you escape infection.
Don't worry about the plane - they won't have been the only ones I'm sure!

Wow, that truly sucks, especially considering the proactive steps they and you took with testing. I've been somewhat lax (as have most people in our area) and we just traveled without issues, but honestly, as I hear stories like this, I'm planning to hunker down a lot more this winter.
Wishing you the best in staying healthy and avoiding it!

I really feel for you and I'm sorry for YOU. that all your plans have been destroyed. So disappointing for you.
You sound far more forgiving than I would be with him. I would be livid to know that he even considered travelling with symptoms while he was waiting for the results of the PCR - who the heck does that? Not much point in taking a test if one can't be bothered to wait for the results especially when he must know that you are medically vulnerable.
Little wonder that this virus keeps spreading when some can't use their common sense.

If it gives you any consolation, my son was positive before thanksgiving. We were able to isolate him to his room/bathroom and no one else caught it (2 partially vaxxed siblings and 2 fully vaxxed parents). I always masked going into his room. It was a pain but it worked. Hoping you stay healthy!
And as a side note, I realize that rapid tests are better than nothing but I will only trust them for a positive. My son had 3 that were negative while symptomatic and a positive PCR. Our doctor said she is seeing that a lot unfortunately. I fear that a lot of people are going to end up sick after spending time with people over the holidays who had negative rapid tests and didn’t get the pcr done to confirm 😕
