Sort of a spin off of the what to gift older parents... I've got older parents as well, and am having the exact same difficulty. I do love so many of these ideas! Last year, for Mother's Day, I put together a nice cart of Instacart groceries for my mom. A few staples that I know she likes, but also, the things she won't usually splurge on- fruits out of season, nice cuts of meat... Also, she tends to be very set in her ways about things they "will" or "will not" eat. Reminds me of the Croods movie (NEWWWWWWWW? ?!?!!?!?!!?!!?!?) So, I added some exotic fruits and veggies, and crackers and snacks that they "may as well try since they're here...." She (they!) really enjoyed it, and found some new favorites! (Who knew red bell peppers were yummy? People that only eat green ones. That's who!!) Then, for her birthday, I did an edible arrangement of dipped fruits and she LOVED that! For Christmas, I'm super tempted to simply do the same thing. LOL But, I'm considering a Walmart + membership. She's getting increasingly scared to go out of the house. It breaks my heart, but that's who she's becoming. And dad's mobility is declining. I like the groceries delivered with only a minimum $35 order. Question for the all knowing peas.... 1) Is the price they pay for the groceries the same as the shelf price? 2) Is a tip for the delivery expected or is it more like an Amazon delivery? 3) My more personal question... If I do this, it may very well give mom an easy way to stay fortified in the house, and take away some of the little exercise dad gets. On one hand, I love that mom can get the groceries she wants without having to drive in the snow, walk on their inevitably not shoveled uneven driveway etc.. On the other hand.. I don't want to make it too easy for her never to see the sunlight again. Am I overthinking it?!

I can’t answer your specific questions, but will say that I gift my parents Amazon Prime every year. They live in 30 minutes from Target/Walmart and find it really convenient to order from Amazon and have items delivered. Especially in the winter. So I think it’s a good gift!

For me I would not pay for a membership but that is because I order from a grocery store (Safeway) that does cheap ($3.99) delivery at $30 and tip are not allowed. I do order some groceries shipped from Walmart (free @ $35). Just get a few things that are less expensive than Safeway or that they don't carry. Like large bags of kitty food and some HABA items. From what I understand tips are expected with Walmart and Target delivery. I think they use outside delivery people and tips are considered part of the job. Don't think the $3.99 I am paying Safeway would cut it ETA - there was a time when Walmart had 2 different prices on some things. the lower one said it was a in-store price. I don't think I have seen that lately so maybe all prices are now the same.

My MIL has it and loves it. The prices are the same as in the store. She is on a fixed income and I don’t think she tips or if she does not much. She has been using it for at least a year now and wouldn’t go without it at this point. She is immune compromised so it’s great for her and she couldn’t afford instacart. She can get just about anything she needs vs just a grocery store delivery and not sure if that’s really an option where she is.

I bought it for my dd and sil last year mainly because they had a preemie who had been in the NICU for a month and it was a way to lessen illness possibility, but they loved it so much that we’re renewing it this year, too. We have it and love it. Yes, tips are expected, but well worth it because they bring my groceries to my door and would take them inside to the kitchen if I wanted them to. My brother has it and is disabled, so they take the bags inside for him. I’m willing to bet she would appreciate it.

1. YES 2. YES 3. YES you might be overthinking 😊 I have had it since it started and I LOVE IT!!! Free Grocery Delivery, Scan & Go in store, FREE shipping. 💯 worth it to me! If she wants to get out, she can still go in the store and use Scan & Go. You do have to scan your phone at Self Checkout, but it's SUPER easy and well worth it!

I don't want to make it too easy for her never to see the sunlight again. Am I overthinking it?! 1 - Yes. 2 - Yes, they contract through DoorDash (in my area atleast) and it's expected. 3 - That's your call, you know them best. I will say that the problem I'm running into now with WM+ is that their new system (since October) will now allow you to add stuff to your cart that can also be shipped, so you have to be careful when adding. They also will split the order once you place it, so you could get one delivery of scotch tape by USPS, one delivery by DoorDash of a non-perishable, and then your actual grocery delivery order on your scheduled date. The other thing is if DoorDash's system is down or doesn't / can't send a driver, you have to contact the store to get it resent through the system to deliver. I've gone through these issues 2 times since October. Just my 2 cents, I might skip it if you don't think she'd do well with those problems.

I have had Walmart+ since Aug 2020. It is good when it works for groceries. Last grocery order was Dec 9th for delivery yesterday, Dec 15th. After the drive had been listed order delivered... I stood outside for half hour. No order.. while I was on the phone with delivery, the store cancelled my order. Delivery promised my replacement before evening... I am still waiting. This has not been the norm of late, they have been doing pretty good. For me to reorder today would be delivery Mon Dec 20th..
But the $98 dollars also covers all other items ok nline and in store, there is NO minimum for those items. Like a bottle of Tylenol will be delivered free from store.. or with groceries, helps to get to the $35..
Anyway my Walmart groceries were delivered a while ago by Instacart. I ordered the same things at 11am, delivered at 12:30.. I might change up my services.
Yes WM groceries are same price as in-store.
Yes they all suggest a tip.
Although I understand if you refuse a tip WM will cover the minimum.
Oh and Instacart has a yearly fee, around $100 for any and all deliveries. But the have a full list of stores they cover. I have had WM today. In the Past Aldi and Wegmans.. right now they are doing deliveries from Best Buy in this area..

I have it and love it! They give you suggested tip amounts based on the total of your order and you can choose one of those or tip whatever amount you prefer. Have not had any delivery issues and the prices are the same as in the store.
