Thanks girls! That makes sense. There is no such thing as half-and-half here in ANZ, and I doubt they have it in the UK either. I've not come across it here, no. However, the description begs other questions - is heavy cream our single cream or double cream? Not forgetting extra thick double, clotted, whipping, UHT, alcohol flavoured etc.. As for cheese Merge, I had read that you don't have real cheese! Fortunately they do, some of the cheese made here in CA and WI is very good actually. And there is tons of good imported cheese available, Tillamook from here and Kerrygold from Ireland is pretty easy to get. I would never have survived 19 years here without good cheese. (Which is not to say that Kraft Singles and Velveeta don’t have their place).

I was never a fan of tea until I got the David’s Tea advent calendar last year, and loved it. Now I drink their tea pretty much daily. The fruit infusions are my favourites and I had a pitcher of their iced tea in my fridge all summer long.

I mostly drink Roobois tea, and sometimes a lemongrass ginger, too. The Mmmm with the lemon ginger I will add a drop of honey. Other than that, I don’t like fruity or flowery teas at all.
I use an electric kettle and steep for about 3-5 minutes. No sugar, and rarely a splash of milk. I do like a vanilla chai every once in awhile with spiced Rooibos, almond milk, and a splash of vanilla syrup.
I am sick right now, and a hot cup of tea sounds so good.

Does no one make tea in a teapot anymore? Yes I do, multiple times a day. I have no issue with tea bags. The pot must be warmed first. I don’t understand folk using their coffee machines for the hot water. Is coffee not supposed to be made with water a little cooler than boiling? Tea requires boiling water.

I usually have Twinings green tea with lemon which is a teabag in the cup to which I add boiling water. I leave the teabag in while I drink this.
Occasionally I have Australian afternoon tea for a change which I drink with no milk and a few grains of sugar.

Has anyone tried the Stash licorice tea? It’s so good!!!! The cinnamon from Harneys used to be my favorite until I tried this one. I boil my water and steep for 4-5 min. I don’t add any sweetener unless it’s chai.
Also, I love the brand Teechino. If anyone wants to decrease their coffee but still want that coffee taste, this brand is so good. My favorites from them are the mocha, vanilla nut and macadamia nut. So good especially when I want coffee but don’t need the caffeine.

The electric kettle thread made me curious about how all of you make a perfect cup of tea. What are your secrets? What brands/flavors do you like? What do you add to up the flavor? I’m ready to try all of your tips! You’re brave!! This can be a very contentious issue in the UK!! 😮😉 In Newfoundland, there is a province-wide feud based on which of the two most popular brands of orange pekoe you serve. And, if your taste in tea falls outside those two brands, you keep that shame buried or lose all social standing. We’re a Red Rose family (Tetley is shit). 😉

Does no one make tea in a teapot anymore? I definitely do! I even keep a tea pot at work and have it on my desk. Somehow I think pouring Tea into a mug that already has a bit of milk at the bottom makes it taste better!! And for our British peas, I only drink Sainsbury’s red label tea! I live in Canada but I started to drink tea in the 80s when I lived in the UK. That’s the only brand I’ve ever found I liked. I know can order it from Amazon but for years I just relied on friends going to the UK and bring me back some!

I also need to add…The peas got me hooked on a hot cinnamon tea that everyone was talking about last year. I had to order it online but I went through about 3 tins during my busy tax season. For this diehard black tea drinker it was pretty significant to find a flavored tea that I liked!!

So I'll preface this by saying I only drink tea and have become quite picky about the teas I purchase. My husband calls me a tea snob (but he's a coffee snob so we are even). First, I only buy from a local tea company called The Tea Spot which is based out here near Boulder. I ONLY buy loose leaf tea as most bagged tea contains plastic and I find that loose leaf provides a better taste profile since they tend to be whole leaves compared to broken leaves in bags. I make hot tea every morning and during the summer months I'll typically make cold-brew tea. I heat my filtered water on the stove in a kettle. For black teas, I steep at boiling temp for 3-5 min. Greens or whites I will bring to boil, let the water stand for 3 min to cool slightly then steep for 2-3 min MAX (otherwise they get bitter). My goal is to get the tea pot that you can program to bring the water to the ideal temp based on leaf type eventually, but I'm also okay without the extra appliance for now. Happy to give some recommendations of my favorite teas from the Tea Spot!! Edited to add: I add nothing to my tea. I like it plain and unsweetened. However, the Earl of Gray from the Tea Spot is my absolute fav Earl Grey and they do add some citrus rind and vanilla to the dried leaves so it imparts that flavor in the tea. Ooh, you're a big enabler. I'm a sucker for Earl Gray and even more so for a little orange rind in a tea. I had ordered from Tea Spot before, but now I have a new order on the way. Decided to try the Lady Lavender, too. I also like August Uncommon Teas (based in LA) and order them frequently. Really unusual blends. The Low Country blend is my favorite. Delicious plain or with just a splash of milk. Haha! I just realized I'm super low on The Earl of Grey tea so I need to reorder as well. Pre COVID I could just walk in their warehouse and buy what I needed. I have not tried Lady Lavender yet, but may have to try it now. I also love their Boulder Breakfast as it has a nice almost chocolate flavor to it. Very different blend! I also LOVE their Rise and Chia. I also drink their Pu'urh almost daily. Now you are the enabler. Those tea look amazing and such unusual blends!! I'll be perusing their site and finding something to order!

My favorite tea is Twinings Lady Grey. I also drink Earl Grey, English Breakfast, and Irish Breakfast. They come in a combo box from Twinings. I went to World Market to get Harney & Sons tea. They only had Hot Cinnamon (obviously should have bought that!), Paris, Moroccan Mint (I bought those two). I like mint tea, but don’t like that one. Bitter and barely mint. I also bought a specialty tin box that is Victorian inspired with a variety. I really bought it for the box! I drink my tea and coffee black, no sugar. I love a flat white from Starbucks, but coffee and milk mixed no longer play well with my stomach. I’ve tied subbing Almond and coconut, but they don’t taste the same.
America is not a cheese desert. Off the top of my head, California and Wisconsin are known for great cheese. Also, processed cheese (Velveeta is the ultimate) has its place. Typically on a burger, hot dog, breakfast biscuit, grilled cheese, and fried in a folded over corn tortilla. It’s used in blocks to make amazing queso. Also, squeeze cheese is a treat on Ritz and a great dog treat.

The perfect cup of tea is the one you get when rock up to your friend's house with a world to put right. Many hours and cups later, life is better.
Can covid be over please? I miss those times.

I only drink Five Roses tea (smooth Ceylon Blend black tea). I add the loose tea to a bag and pour boiling water over. Steep for 2-3 minutes, and add a splash of milk. Best tea EVER!,, I order the tea from Amazon. This makes my South African heart very happy 😊 . It's the taste of home. If you like your tea on the strong side, you should try their African Blend in the blue box. Their flavoured teas are good for iced tea too.

I started drinking tea late in life, so I probably have Great Value brand tastes. I use the microwave, pan on stove or my cocoa motion machine for water. Pretty sure the gold standard is electric tea kettle.
I like most of the Twinings Teas I've tried. I don't care for the fruity teas.
This is probably my favorite tea. All I taste is cinnamon though. link
I like these two holiday teas from Celestial Seasonings. link link Their peppermint isn't bad but I prefer the Twinings brand more.
The teas I like from Bigelow are salted caramel (it is kind of different) and green tea.
OhhhhhhhhhhI really want to try those! I had something similar from yogi tea but there is this flowery aftertaste I just can't get past. I can even smell it. I love the Bigelow salted caramel, and they have a toasted coconut one that is similar to a GS Samoa (caramel delight for the other side, LOL) that i enjoy. For breakfast, I like English Breakfast, I'll have to look at the brand The tea bags are round! And I usually put 2 in a 16 oz cup! Then amaretto creamer and 2 sugars!

I am an herbal tea drinker I use only loose leaf tea mixes. I buy mine from Whistling Kettle. I love the variety. I heat my water in my kettle on the stove and then let it steep a few minutes.

Just a plain ole tea drinker. Iced tea during the summer with no sugar, just lemon. Winter Tazo- orange or mint, Tevana - apple cider, jade mint/ citrus. Celestial Seasonings- apple cider. all available at target. Haven’t seen the over CS fall ones before, they sound good. Use electric teakettle and raw honey to sweeten.
