The electric kettle thread made me curious about how all of you make a perfect cup of tea. What are your secrets? What brands/flavors do you like? What do you add to up the flavor? I’m ready to try all of your tips!

I like Twinings tea - English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey- all of them come in regular and decaf. They also make a decaf Chai that I sometimes like on cold winter evenings.
I boil water in my electric kettle, pour over the tea bag in the mug (sometimes with a little bit of sugar), steep for 3-4 minutes.

I suspect "perfect" is in the eye of the beholder. lol. Me, I heat up water in the microwave in a Pyrex measuring cup, then pour it into my mug that has the tea bag in it. Let it sit there until I remember about it. Add some sugar, and then probably reheat it in the microwave. lol. My very proper British grandmother is most likely spinning in her grave.

I started drinking tea late in life, so I probably have Great Value brand tastes. I use the microwave, pan on stove or my cocoa motion machine for water. Pretty sure the gold standard is electric tea kettle.
I like most of the Twinings Teas I've tried. I don't care for the fruity teas.
This is probably my favorite tea. All I taste is cinnamon though. link
I like these two holiday teas from Celestial Seasonings. link link Their peppermint isn't bad but I prefer the Twinings brand more.
The teas I like from Bigelow are salted caramel (it is kind of different) and green tea.

I drink Typhoo tea from England, I buy it from Amazon. Boil my teakettle, pour over teabag in a mug, wait 3-5 minutes, remove teabag and add milk and sugar. First thing every morning for 50+ years. I love my am cuppa.

I am going to go with perfect being in the eye of the beholder!
I use a quart jar, fill 1/3 with water, microwave for 1 minute, drop in a lipton's tea bag. Forget I put the tea bag in, take the bag out when I remember it. Add some sweetener, a few drops of mint extract, add water to about 3/4th full, add ice and drink it.

So I'll preface this by saying I only drink tea and have become quite picky about the teas I purchase. My husband calls me a tea snob (but he's a coffee snob so we are even). First, I only buy from a local tea company called The Tea Spot which is based out here near Boulder. I ONLY buy loose leaf tea as most bagged tea contains plastic and I find that loose leaf provides a better taste profile since they tend to be whole leaves compared to broken leaves in bags. I make hot tea every morning and during the summer months I'll typically make cold-brew tea. I heat my filtered water on the stove in a kettle. For black teas, I steep at boiling temp for 3-5 min. Greens or whites I will bring to boil, let the water stand for 3 min to cool slightly then steep for 2-3 min MAX (otherwise they get bitter). My goal is to get the tea pot that you can program to bring the water to the ideal temp based on leaf type eventually, but I'm also okay without the extra appliance for now. Happy to give some recommendations of my favorite teas from the Tea Spot!! Edited to add: I add nothing to my tea. I like it plain and unsweetened. However, the Earl of Gray from the Tea Spot is my absolute fav Earl Grey and they do add some citrus rind and vanilla to the dried leaves so it imparts that flavor in the tea.

I'm Canadian with a British ancestry ... I've been drinking hot tea all of my life I boil the water in my electric kettle and pour it over my Tetley Orange Pekoe tea bag ... I would like to say I wait for it to steep but more often than not I stir the bag around a bunch of times ... I like my tea STRONG!!! I add a bit of honey and we're good to go!

I ask DH to make one for me. He's the tea maker here----he loves the whole ceremony of boiling the water, warming the cups and the teapot, measuring out the tea, timing the steeping, and so forth. It makes him happy. And then I enjoy having some time together while we drink it. He prefers loose leaf, since it adds to the whole experience, but we also buy tea bags of either Twinings or Newman's Own black teas. And I keep some Stash brand bags of flavored teas around. Neither of us add anything at all to our teas.

Always whole leaf tea. I carry it with me when I travel so as not to get stuck with a cheap tea bag full of powder.
At home, where I have more control over the process, the temperature of the water and the brewing time are dependent on the variety of tea or herbal infusion.
Otherwise, for black teas, water boiled and left to cool for about a minute, poured over leaves in cup (using an infuser or a pyramid tea bag). I time the brew for about four minutes, sometimes five. Tea left to brew too long gets bitter and nasty tasting. Remove infuser or bag, add a splash of milk sometimes, and let cool another few minutes before drinking.

I only drink herbal tea occasionally so I don’t own a tea kettle, I just use my microwave to heat the water in a mug then add my tea bag and a tiny bit of sugar or honey.

I never add milk to herbal teas, only traditional black teas. Herbal teas I drink with just hot water. Black teas I only drink Twinings here in loose leaf or bag, but I miss Dilmah and Tetley from back home. I take my tea seriously. 😂 I have two teapots, one two cup and one 7 cup, and I had a lovely English lady on Etsy make a gorgeous tea cosy for each of them. I also have tea bag tongs and tea leaf strainers.

I only drink Five Roses tea (smooth Ceylon Blend black tea). I add the loose tea to a bag and pour boiling water over. Steep for 2-3 minutes, and add a splash of milk. Best tea EVER!,, I order the tea from Amazon.

I am boring. I drink Tetley tea black with no sugar. I also like to drink Yogi perfect energy vanilla tea. However I have to cut back on caffeine so I’ll be drinking decaf Tetley and herbal tea here on out.
My electric kettle has different temps on it, I use the highest temp for my tea. I don’t add anything to it so it’s easy.

Please clarify the milk thing.
Are we talking whole milk? 2%? Heavy cream? 1/2 & 1/2?
I like hot tea but this Southern girl is very clueless about anything other than Sweet Tea.

Another fan of Harney's Hot Cinnamon Sunset! I never drink plain black or plain green tea, and like fruity or chai teas.
I like my tea as strong as possible and just leave the teabag in the cup while I drink it. I must be very unrefined because I do not notice that the flavor is off.

Boil water in an electric kettle. In the morning I make a pot of tea, so I pour the water into a pottery teapot I have. I might use teabags or loose leaf tea. I used to use honey and milk in my tea but now I drink it black. I like Harney & Sons hot cinnamon tea. I like chai and mint also.

My perfect cup of tea is....
Water boiled in electric kettle or on stovetop. I do not like flavored teas. I am currently using Tetley British Blend. I drink it from a tall, skinny mug (it keeps it hot longer). I drink it with milk and sugar.
I never ever drink my hot tea, from a cup that has previously had coffee in it. It alters the taste. I no longer drink hot tea at a restaurant, for this reason.

I don't drink a lot of tea, but when I do I mainly drink normal black tea. I used to use a teapot to make proper tea, but these days I'm lazy and just use teabags. Sometimes I will have an English Breakfast but more often I have an Australian Afternoon tea, which is nice and strong. I usually leave the teabag in the cup to get maximum strength. NO sugar, and a little splash of milk. Electric kettle of course. As for non-standard tea, I like lemon myrtle tea. It's lovely hot and cold.

I drink Harney’s Ceylon & India orange pekoe. I boil the water in my electric kettle and steep for 5 minutes. I then add a little bit of milk (lactose free skim). During the day at school I bring my Hydroflask full of Hot Cinnamon Spice. That is just boiled water and the tea sachet. I leave the sachet in the whole time I drink it. I find it doesn’t taste bitter and I’m not good at getting the lid off the cup without spilling or burning myself.

Please clarify the milk thing. Are we talking whole milk? 2%? Heavy cream? 1/2 & 1/2? Even after all these years on Two Peas, I still have no idea what half and half is, and no comprehension about what Americans put in their coffee (creamer? what's that?). I think I can safely answer for all Aussies, Kiwis and Brits that we put milk...... plain old milk from the bottle or carton..... into our tea and coffee. The same milk you'd use in a milkshake or on your cereal, or in a cake batter etc etc. Just plain milk. NOT cream. Not half and half whatever that is. Sometimes skim milk or low fat milk (maybe that's what you mean by 2%?).
