We made it 4 days before having to shut down Pre-K. We have 2 for sure positive kids (one who had actually not been there at all this week, but parents let us know that the kid was sick and wouldn’t be back for 10 days) and one child who was in class this week. We are shut down for 10 days and I am bummed. I am super thankful I have a test scheduled for tomorrow.
Ugh. I hope the kids recover well and that none of the adults get it.

I’m so sorry. I’m not really surprised with how almost supernaturally contagious this variant is, but I’m sorry that it’s reared it’s ugly head so soon for you. I hope everyone has mild cases.

I'm hoping we avoid this. Of course in my district we just cross our fingers and hope.
I told my students if they started coming sick, I was wearing a masking and kicking their buttons if they got me sick

Ugh I’m sorry. My youngest son’s school gave up and called going remote two days before school went back.
There don’t seem to be many good answers these days.

ugh, so sorry. The 12yo started back to school today (middle school) and he said 150 kids were out sick. Plus a girl got yanked out of his PE class when her test came back positive and her parents came to get her out of school.
But I’m glad you found a test appointment!

Oh no! We've had 1 school district go virtual the last 2 days of the week and the HS has been calling kids to the office right and left in another district. Is this ever going to end?

What is amazing is that there has only been one for sure case in the upper grades. I imagine the vax rate is pretty high (only 2 of my students are old enough to be fully vaxxed, although we have a bunch that are turning 5 next month) and we are fully masked inside and out. I cannot even imagine what it would be like in an unmasked situation.
I am sorry for everyone having to deal with this.

I made it on Monday after one of my fellow teachers tested positive after they left their morning shift. It was literally the only available appointment in over 20 Walgreens I checked and at least that many Rite Aids. There aren’t anymore until after January 13 which is as far ahead as they schedule them. I tried to schedule one for my husband today just in case I am positive.

The Portland Public School District (biggest district in our area) is shutting down two schools effective today due to staffing shortages. They are both high schools, and I imagine they are doing that in hopes that the subs will be able to keep the younger buildings open.

I just got an email that one of my kids was a close contact, so we made it four days... I "think" because she's vaccinated she doesn't have to quarantine, but our school district is following the "old" rules not the new CDC rules so it's confusing.
I got my booster on Monday...
ETA: now that my kid is home from school it turns out the exposure was on Monday. 19 teachers at our high school were also out today according to my child.

Our school/district sent home tests the week before break. We were supposed to test the kids at home on the 30th and then again Sunday night before returning Monday morning. The at-home tests caught 23 cases. We have 325ish students (preschool-8th) and about 70ish staff. At school Monday the on-campus PCR testing that 40% of the students/staff have opted in to caught another 2 cases. 1 of those case was in my 3rd grader's classroom (unvaccinated student). Yesterday morning one of his classmates (vaccinated) tested positive at home on a home test. So now 2 of the kids in his class have tested positive. That child's sibling is in my Kindergartener's class, she has not tested positive yet, but they kept her home. And I know of another child with an older sibling in the class that is positive but the younger has not yet tested positive. We still got a positive exposure notice for that class, so there are at least 3 in that class out of 12 kids.

DD was notified the PreK class she goes to (She’s a SLP) closed do to so many Covid cases. She started feeling I’ll yesterday so got tested at Emergicare. She tested negative for Covid but positive for Strep and the flu. She’s home now, tucked into bed and grumpy as all get out that her weekend plans are canceled.

We had a child test M and W both were negative, they popped up positive today. They had not been at school all week (so not at school since December 16) so they didn’t get it at school, but they notified us today anyway. Child had tested positive for strep first.

I wish our school district would mandate the vaccine/booster (as they do many other vaccines), now that all school aged children are eligible. They have so many cases right now, double their highest from before.
My daughter's university sent and email that everyone must be boosted by Jan 14th and they will go back in person!

Here in Ontario, kids are doing on line virtual learning. They are scheduled to return to in person classes on Jan 17. I have my doubts that will happen.

I don't know how much it would matter, frankly. Several school age and vaccinated kids are out with COVID. The siblings of two of my students who are fully vaxxed are both positive. We live in an area with high vax rates and over 400 kids were out at the HS on Wednesday. I know the vax and booster help prevent serious illness, but I don't think they are helping stop infections of this variant.

We had 14 cases this week at my high school. We have just under 400 students. I have no idea how many are vaccinated but I would guess about 50%. I’m in VT and our numbers are pretty high now. Our numbers aren’t high enough for remote but sports are getting cancelled right and left and one of our elementary schools was closed this week due to a staff shortage.
Our principal sent all staff home with home tests and asked us to test before we come back Monday. It’s not mandatory but I think most staff will comply. My ds works as a para and he’s not boosted yet. I think next week he can be. He’s 23 so he was one of the last groups and he didn’t work at the school when vaccinations started so he didn’t get in with school staff.
I appreciate that we were given home tests. We also can be tested any time we want at school regardless to where we were exposed.

Yikes. Not even a week. I’m thankful we homeschool for lots of reasons but Covid is definitely topping the list lately.

Parents here are so anti mask and anti vax I am surprised that we don't have higher numbers. Although I bet we do, but the kids are just not getting tested. We have 7000 students and 126 were out with covid and 129 were in quarantine. It's so frustrating, isn't it? I blame the unvaccinated for pretty much everything at this point! I feel that if everyone was vaccinated, we would have less spread than if everyone was unvaccinated. I am so relieved that being vaccinated and boosted! I am hoping my college freshman can get her 2nd booster when she is home for spring break (assuming we will be getting boosters every 5 months).

Oh, yes, I work in Oregon and we still have statewide mask mandates. I can't even imagine if we didn't.
