My dh got a make-your-own hot sauce kit for Christmas and we need a blender or food processor to make it. I don't have either, lol. The only blender I have is the immersion kind and obviously that won't work in this case. I've never needed a regular blender so I see no reason to buy one now and just have it take up space in my tiny kitchen. But a small food processor would work -- maybe 3 cups? I looked on Amazon but any of them that I click on has either this as a review: "Best food processor ever! It works great!" -- or this: "DO NOT buy this!" sigh... Since I don't know the first thing about any of them I have no idea which to believe. If the good reviews are over 80% then it sounds like a good one to me, but then I'm always thrown into doubt by the "Horrible product" ones.
So, if you have a small food processor that you use and love and can vouch for can you tell me which it is? Thanks.

If you're wanting one that will completely smooth/puree what you are making, then a blender is better over a food processor.
I have both - Kitchen Aid brands - and I find the blender makes things way smoother than the processor does.

If you are looking for something small that chops, I’d go for the Kitchenaid mini food processor. I use it to grind nuts for dairy-free cheese and it works well. I do still strain the liquid, but it works better than the expensive crummy food processor that I bought over here. It comes in a 3.5 cup and a 5 cup model. I got mine at Kohl’s with a great sale for about $30. My US one (in storage now) may be a Cuisinart, but I’d say they are both pretty similar. kitchenaid If you want a purée, I’d get a Bullet. My DD has the one with the larger motor to make smoothies and it will purée ice cubes. I think it would better with liquids because the container is closed and won’t splatter. This is the one that I bought DDBut for hot sauce, I think the immersion blender would work well. If you want it completely smooth, you could just use a strainer.

DD has my mom's old Cuisinart Mini Prep Food Processor and it works very well. She uses it to make sauces and hummus with no problems. If you want a blender instead, check out those personal smoothie blenders. I don't have one but this article discusses 5 different blenders. 5 Best Personal Blenders

I'd try to use your immersion blender instead of purchasing something else for just one task. Or, head to the thrift store for a blender.
You might find it fun to make hot sauce once and never do it again. (For my DH, that's definitely what would happen.)

I have a small blender that the kids use for smoothies that I got at Aldi - not expensive. I also have a small mini chopper (about $10-15 - I think mine is black and decker). I use BOTH of these WAY more often than my blender/food processor/stand mixer combo...which I think I've pulled out twice in the last year.

My little Cuisinart is 30+ years old and amazing. I needed a new immersion blender a few years ago and DH got this set. Also Cuisinart and awesome!

I have a very old Presto Minnie Max-- it is amazing! Simple to use attachments, easy to clean, tkes up a tiny amount of space! My mom purchased it for me at least 30 years ago. I will cry when it dies! I think ebay is the only place to find it anymore!

I have a one cup black and decker food processor. Makes great pureed sauce types of stuff that a large food processor can't do. The blades on the one cup sit much closer to the bottom of the container than they do in a regular food processor.

Magimix 3200. Small but very powerful, brilliant customer service and long warranties. They do several sizes but this is the smallest I’d go to be a true all rounder.

I have a Little Oskar that I LOVE. It holds maybe two cups. I think it was a wedding shower gift from 30+ years ago. I’m going to be so sad when it dies because they don’t make them anymore. I’ll have to check out some of the others on this thread so I’ll know what to get to replace it with when it does.
For small blending jobs I like my Magic Bullet. We have another full size commercial blender that I kept after we closed our coffee shop but we never use it.

Nutribullet would be my recommendation. I have a Magic Bullet that I use for smoothies and to purée food, but the Nutribullet is a little bigger and stronger.

I bought this mini-chopper that is a Moulinex (French brand) for the equivalent of $10. I use that little monster every.single.day!!!!!! Take everything in my kitchen but not that!

I have a Smeg handheld 50’s retro blender HBF02PBUK I find it really good and versatile, it can be used as a stick blender, whisk, potato masher and food processor.

I bought the Kitchen Aid yesterday from Kohl's as it was on sale and I had $10 Kohl's cash. Can't wait for it to come and to try it out. My little Black & Decker Handy Chopper from 1989 is still going strong but only holds about a cup. I needed a slightly bigger one. Thanks for the recommendations.
