So, this is bothering me. I wonder if it is a Medicare thing or just a crappy doctor thing.
I had an extraordinary PCP when I lived in Florida. She always did a *thorough* yearly wellness check. I stripped down and she checked everything:eyes, ears, throat, neck, breast check, lungs/heart/carotids, abdomen, vaginal and rectal. She checked my back and scalp for lesions. Very thorough.
We moved to SC three years ago and, even though I see my doctor every six months, I have yet to take my clothes off. She does listen to chest/heart (and that was through a jacket) and check my ankles for swelling but that’s it. She does ask if I have any complaints. I had none other than reporting about seeing an orthopedic guy for my bad knee. So, in essence, she sends in my prescriptions and that’s about it.
Any similar experiences with Medicare?

A Medicare wellness checkup is not the same as an annual physical which is what you were getting at your previous dr. The wellness checkup is just checking your vitals, reviewing personal and family medical history, shots if needed, ordering tests if needed, etc. If you want what your had before then ask for a full physical or a wellness checkup.

Same. It’s pretty cursory.

Cursory and the 'famous' test included. You know. Person, woman, man, camera, TV.

you may need to go to a dermatologist for a skin cancer check--full body. but you need to speak up and ask for the type of exam you want.

I am not on Medicare but that's exactly what I get with my yearly wellness check. I had my last PCP for 3 years and I never one time put a gown on around her. We have BCBS and go to a large medical center.

We have BCBS and go to a large medical center. same except for my every 3 years well-woman exam. The annual physical is clothed - she listens to heart, lungs, abdomen, pokes at the abdomen, asks if there are any concerns or anything on my skin that I need her to look at (I've had a few things frozen off) - then off to the lab and for a chest x-ray and ekg. (I do see her quarterly for med checks and lab work due to diabetes)

I get a pretty good exam once a year but have to go in more for various reasons. The mammogram is every year, I see an endocrinologist every year for thyroid issues, questions are asked to determine my mental state, and I also get a breast exam in addition to the mammogram due to dense tissue. Lots of lab work too.

Ok, I’ll quit whining. My health is OKish so if I have a problem, I’ll make a separate appointment.

Cursory and the 'famous' test included. You know. Person, woman, man, camera, TV. LOL. Same as far a cursory, but I wish my memory test was as simple as that famous one. . Mine is always something super long and convoluted like "Wilbur H Higgenworth lives as 732472 Ramrakhiani Drive in Horowath, GA. 95678. He house is a green two story with 5 windows and the 2 car garage on the left hand side of the road. His street connects with West Westover Street. He is married and has 3 children, Sunil 11, Harriet 8 and Hyram 5. I then have my BP, temp taken and some other stuff. THEN 15 minutes later they ask me - what as the gentleman's name. Name his children and ages, house number and street name and state. etc, etc, etc. I fail the damn thing every.single.year. I'm sure they have me down as suffering from short term memory loss and dementia. Good grief. To answer the OP - I stopped having the full exam years ago before Medicare. After seeing specialists for years, I finally went back to seeing an DO. She gives much more comprehensive care without having to see a specialist for every little thing. However, she doesn't do the stripped down thing like my old doctor did back in the day when I was a lot younger.

After my visit with her, I get labs drawn and that’s it. No chest X-ray or EKG. I have heard they are only supposed to spend 15 minutes with us for a yearly wellness check.

I have heard they are only supposed to spend 15 minutes with us for a yearly wellness check. my insurance covers the x-ray and EKG as part of the physical, the clinic has them onsite, and I have some heart/lung issues it's best to keep an eye on so I do take advantage of that option. The well-woman has to be a separate visit from the physical - something to do with insurance billing, I think.

Janet I can honestly say that I have never taken my clothes off in my PCPs office except for a pap.
