I'm guessing most don't know what it is. It's those tiny cuts you can get at the corners of your mouth. It's actually an infection and I've had to have Rx cream for it in the past. Just wondering if anyone has successfully healed this without a Rx as I really don't want to bother my doctor for this... I see her next Friday but don't want to deal with this for a week if possible. None of my lip balms are helping at all.

A lot of times it is a fungus-yeast type problem. I have treated it with antifungals from wal mart--think jock itch cream, ring worm cream, or I have used the tiny tube of the external cream from Monistat box. Does not sound real classy, but it has worked for me.

It hurts way out of proportion to its size, doesn't it?

This was a symptom of a B12 deficiency for me - have you had that checked? Monthly injections and have never had an issue again. Hope you figure it out Zella! I am unable to absorb due to a small bowel resection from crohns.

I never heard of that, but I do get cracks in the corners of my mouth and they hurt so much! I also get cracks on the sides of the tops of my thumbs on both sides of the nail. I sleep with 4 bandaids over each crack every night until they heal. Then every other night or they crack again.

I take a chemotherapy drug for my rheumatoid arthritis that causes mine to crack. Folic acid is supposed to help. Good ol Vaseline works the best for me.

I sometimes use tea tree oil on mine along with Monistat. I put it on at bedtime and in the morning, it’s a lot better. I’ll also take a finger dab of tea tree oil, put it in my mouth, swish it around and then spit it out.
You’re right though, it’s very painful.

I didn’t know those had a name. Yep, jock itch cream is the solution. A little dab on the cut morning and night for a few days. A tube will last for years.

Yeah, I didn't know for years and years that it actually had a name and wasn't just super dry skin. Funnily enough, I may well have a B12 deficiency; I was tested for that just yesterday. I'm using the Monistat but still need to use other things to try and combat the pain. Hubby bought me home 2 cold sore remedies and even though I've told him over and over it's NOT a cold sore, I put some on and it has helped; I guess it has a numbing agent.
I'd like it to be healed before I have to do my colonoscopy and endoscopy prep on Tuesday. I'm doing dulcolax laxative and Gatorade and Miralax. I've done that twice before so I know I can handle it, but I don't want a sore mouth with all that drinking.

I just had it. I used a combo of lotrimin and hydrocortizone, it cleared up in a few days.

Yes ask my ex husband about this. He told me not to drink coffee because that was my cause of it. Canadian coffee is fine.

My son used to get these all the time. He started taking a supplement called lysine and hasn’t had it since. It’s a good cheap fix.

One of my kids had it - it extended into a rash all the way to his cheek. I completely forgot about it until I saw this post! It was awful, the poor kid. I don't remember what cleared it up finally, though I think it was an antifungal of some kind.
