We bought a soda stream over the holidays. My kids were using it, then went back to school and I forgot to ask how to use it! Of course we lost the instructions. So I am debating waiting until spring break when they can teach me how to use it or passing it on to a friend to use.
My main questions, are if you have one, do you like it? I drink so much soda, and wasn't sure if this was a good substitute? My kids say they have a cola flavor. But is it just as bad for you as regular soda if you mix it in? I am pretty clueless about soda stream! Don't want to hold onto it if it's just as bad as soda. I don't like water unless I am extremely thirsty, and the kids thought maybe this would help to drink more water.

I’m pretty sure their website has short how to videos or you can check YouTube.
I have one and use it all the time. I just use it for plain seltzer and it helped me increase my water intake tremendously. I tried a diet cola flavor when I first got it but it was gross. Sometimes I’ll add some lime. Other than that I can’t recommend anything.

I have one and like it. However I only use it as sparkling water or a tonic sub in a mixed drink.
My ODS uses his and buys the syrups to add to it. In my mind, I think that is just as bad as drinking a soda. I do think now, though, that they have diet versions. I haven't tried those so I can't vouch for the taste of them.
As far as using it, it is so easy to use. You just fill the water bottle up to the max level. Pop in into place and give a few pumps to the button. I am sure there are youtube videos that will show you exactly how to do it.

If the goal is to reduce sugary soda consumption, they have tons of diet and flavored water mix options. My Target, kohls and bed, bath and beyond sell them. They can also be bought in many online places. sodastream.com/collections/sparkling-water-flavors

I’m on the go today so short answer is that I LOVE mine. I’ve had one for 9 years and make at least 2 bottles of sparkling water a day (I don’t do flavored stuff). I bought It because I was Regularly drinking 2 cans of Diet Coke a day and wanted to get away from that. It worked like a charm It’s very easy to use once you get over the fear factor. Check YouTube for a video for your model.

I like mine. I need to drink more water/fluids because of medications. Because I’m a diabetic, I don’t drink anything with real sugar. I add a variety of things to it because I don’t like the flavor of plain seltzer. Don’t do the diet cola it’s terrible. I do like Soda Streams Bubly Drops. I also use sliced fruit, Mio Drops, or other no sugar drops like Stevia Select root beer from Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GLYA3OG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1Also Monin and DaVinci Syrups are really good and not very expensive. I have a bottle of their Diet Lemon Lime I haven’t tried yet. I’m hoping it’s better than the diet cola.

So do the diet options have the same "bad" ingredients as diet soda, crystal light, etc?

I am trying to decide to keep it or give it to a friend. I was hoping one of my kids was taking it with them to their college apt., but they said they don't have room.

You don’t buy sparkling water to use with it. That’s what you make out of regular water using it. you add the flavor and carbonation. I’m not sure what you mean about bad ingredients? I don’t subscribe to artificial sweeteners (in moderation!) being wholly bad for you, so I can t really offer any commentary on those, if that’s what you meant.

We have one and use it all the time. Their flavorings are disgusting but I like to carbonate my water and add crystal light or mio drops or other water flavor drops. I have probably tripled my water intake this way. You just use tap water and use the soda stream to carbonate your water. It is very, very easy to use. Just look up a youtube video.

Mine is so easy to use. I just fill the bottle with water up to the line, click it into the dispenser, press down the top until three water drops light up (the most carbonation) and then release from the dispenser. I use Diet Orange and put about half the flavoring in to the full container. Love it.

I use flat water from the faucet, we have good tasting water where I live. If you don’t, use filtered or bottled water. The whole purpose of the soda stream is to carbonate your water, so no, don’t start with sparkling water 😉 I know you know that for the best health, you need to drink water, so I’d give it a try, without adding anything to it, for a couple of weeks to see if you can convince yourself to drink it plain. I drink at least 2, 1 liter bottles a day and love the bubbles! Also, if you want to flavor it naturally, try adding citrus fruit to it, or berries. Someone else mentioned waiting until the 3 lights light up when carbonating. If you have a newer model, you probably don’t have the lights. I replaced my old one this past fall, the model I have is Terra. If you need some hand-holding while getting the hang of carbonating, feel free to reach out via PM. It’s done by “feel” as the further the Co2 tank empties, the longer you’ll need to carbonate. It’s been a great investment in a kitchen gadget for me.

i use mine a lot in the summer, less in the winter as I tend to drink tea when it's cold. But I love the sparkling water, I just add my own lime juice (from the little plastic limes in the grocery store, or use RealLime). I'm not a fan of the flavourings they sell, they taste so fake to me

We just bought one for Xmas. We use the bubbly drops, or plain with a slice of lemon or lime. We also use the ginger ale and the lemon and lime concentrate. Less sugar than buying ginger ale or sprite.
We have a water cooler or use filtered water from the fridge, so that it's nice and cold.

I have several of the soda stream bottles and keep them filled in the fridge before carbonating them. When I bought my replacement machine this fall, somewhere in the instructions it said that cold water carbonates best.

We use torani syrups with lurs to give a hint of flavor. My 10 year old LOVES it. We also use it to make fizzy lemonade- use remade lemonade and do half and half.

We have a standard size refrigerator, our refrigerator is always packed full. Maybe it's smaller than standard? I pack my husband leftovers for lunch, snacks, his big water bottle every night, so one shelf has to be available for his stuff. My inlaws got us a brita or some kind of big water pitcher for Christmas and we just can't fit it in the refrigerator. I think that's my excuse for not liking water, I can't keep it in the refrigerator, haha! I wish we had 2 refrigerators!

We get the Torani at Smart and Final but you can find it at grocery stores by the coffee and tea. If you add heavy cream, it's an italian soda. Just a note- avoid the mint flavors. They're not good in the water. LOL I use the bottles of lemonade from Costco. You can also make fizzy orange and fizzy grape and fizzy apple. Any juice. Make it half fizzy water and half juice. I REALLY like the lemonade, fizzy water, blue raspberry torani. Also any flavor with vanilla is yummy too!

Noooo! Water only in the bottle. Mix fizzy water with the juice in your glass.
