Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady, worthy of a champagne celebration. The only thing that could make me happier is if Aaron Rodgers goes too.

Yeeeesssss!!!
I actually think he made a great decision. What’s left for him to do? He has done it all. As much as I can’t stand losing to him, and don’t like his cry baby attitude, he is still, arguably, the greatest quarterback of all time. Ride off into the sunset and go spend some time with your beautiful wife and kids! We will still enjoy football without you. Promise!

So far I'm 2 for 3 on good news on retiring QBs. Ben R announced as well ... good riddance.
Brady probably wished he had retired last year on a high.
I suppose Gronk will be out as well - he was playing coy earlier this week but I'm sure he won't play without Brady. Good riddance to him as well.
Now if Rodgers would hit the road ... it'd be a trifecta.

My bet is he decided to go now because he didn’t want Ben R getting to the Hall of Fames before him.

Just curious, y'all clearly are not fond of certain QBs and I will admit to not being a fan of Brady's. The whole "deflate-gate" thing really soured me on the Pats in general. Anyhow, how do you feel about Russell Wilson? I know a lot of people dislike Pete Carroll but rarely do I hear anyone (outside of locals) talk about Wilson - either positive or negative.

He wouldn’t leave last year because he would want to see if he could repeat at the SB. Since he didn’t make it this year it was perfect timing to retire because there isn’t a maybe I can go for a 3pete. It makes sense to retire after not making it to the SB.

Anyhow, how do you feel about Russell Wilson? I know a lot of people dislike Pete Carroll but rarely do I hear anyone (outside of locals) talk about Wilson - either positive or negative. I'm not a fan of Brady because I think he's a 40-something year old man child. I don't like cheating in sports (especially when you're making the money he does) and I don't like poor sportsmanship. I'm not a fan of Ben R because of him being a rapist ("allegedly"). And of course Rodgers ... for so many reasons. And that was before the whole "I've been immunized" debacle. Of course, I'm a Seattle(ish) girl. I love me some Russell Wilson. I don't like the off-season talk that goes on now-a-days (will he stay, won't he stay). I think Jody Allen would be foolish to get rid of their franchise QB. I like Pete Carroll as well, which considering I did not like him when he came (I thought he was running away from the USC debacle), is quiet the turn around. I do know people who think Russell Wilson "isn't all that". Or they don't like how he talks to the press. Very controlled. Honestly, I think he's smart. By being controlled he doesn't turn into Rodgers who has vomit mouth and continues to say the wrong things. I think Wilson is careful about what he says, he says only the things he means to say and maybe that is "calculated" but I think in this day of media sensation, it's the smart way to go.

My bet is he decided to go now because he didn’t want Ben R getting to the Hall of Fames before him. Why would that matter? He’s had bigger ‘rivals’ than Ben R. Peyton is in the HOF and their rivalry was bigger than Brady and Ben. I’m guessing it was more to do with his family. Giselle hasn’t been quiet about wanting him to retire. I thought it was coming since he launched his Brady brand recently.

I'm glad that I've had the chance to watch him play (on TV, never in person), as I think he is one of the all time best athletes. For being 45 and still doing what he does, and damn good at it - is more than impressive. Very few reach it to the level he has and I think its worth celebrating. Yes, everyone got tired of him winning all the time, but I looked at it as a one-time opportunity to see a great one play. I see him as very driven, extremely focused, and a great teammate. I also see him as a dedicated husband, dad, son, brother, and friend to so many. I recall reading an article a few years back that a new player was joining the Patriots and he was in the locker room for the first day, and Tom walked up to him and say "Hi, I'm Tom Brady"...and new guy thought that it was great that he introduced himself not just acted like everyone should know who he is (although the guy clearly knew it was him!).
I wish him nothing but success in his retirement and he can look back on his 22-year career and be very proud. and that includes mistakes he's made (like we all make) and he got up and got back on that horse and kept going. A lot of people would have stayed down...it actually takes a lot to get back up.
and yes, I jumped on the Patriots bandwagon a few years ago when they were doing all the winning. I was in awe of that team and the great teamwork they had. I don't see it in other teams (but I don't watch all teams play). So when Tom jumped to the Bucs, I jumped to as I wanted to continue watching the greatness play, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Nobody is CLOSE to doing anything he has done....not just super bowl rings, but the the all-around good guy he is.
For me, I will miss watching him play.

Look again, this could be #fakenews. Or at least premature.

Look again, this could be #fakenews. Or at least premature. It's doubtful it's fake. His Dad is yammering to the press for whatever reason. Ian Rappaport is holding strong on his statement. Pushback is only on timing of announcement.

There is not a chance that Ben R. would get in the Hall of Fame before Tom Brady.

Maybe too early for celebrations www.npr.org/2022/01/29/1076707177/tom-brady-retirement-reports-patriots-buccaneersBut in statements to media, Brady's agent, Donald Yee, would not confirm — or deny — the report.
"Without getting into the accuracy or inaccuracy of what's being reported, Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy," Yee wrote. "He knows the realities of the football business and planning calendar as well as anybody, so that should be soon."
As the afternoon unfolded, the confusion mounted. Brady's company, TB12 Sports, posted a congratulatory tweet, then deleted it. Other reports said the Buccaneers leadership had not been informed of any decision yet.
The Associated Press reported that Brady had told the Bucs he hadn't made up his mind. And KRON4 News, a local news station in the Bay Area, where Brady's parents live, reported that Brady's father had denied reports of his son's retirement.

In the pre-NBA-basketball game show on ABC right now, a group of top sportscasters - all also on ESPN (Michael Wilbon, Mike Greenberg, Stephen A Smith) - are all talking about it as a done deal. They just spent 3-5 minutes discussing Brady’s retirement… so somebody’s info is screwy.

Knowing Brady, he is going to announce it tomorrow to take away eyes on the 2 play off games to put all the attention, once again, on himself.
