I would like : Eat in kitchen with attached family room Formal dining Formal living Master bedroom Kid bedroom 1 Kid bedroom 2 Guest bedroom Office Den Basement 2 car garage 3 full baths Powder room
We don’t have a basement, office, guest bedroom or 2 car garage. I’d love an office for dh and a guest bedroom. Right now our den doubles as a guest room but it’s small. I would like a bigger kitchen. Mine functions perfectly. I’d also like higher ceilings.

We took over six months of house hunting to find our current house with the intention of it being our last house. It’s pretty much everything we wanted.
big eat in kitchen/dining room main floor office main floor laundry (and it’s big) main floor living room main floor family room main floor mud room main floor 3/4 bath
2nd floor master with full bath ensuite, bonus room and huge walk in closet 2nd floor bedroom for DD 2nd floor guest room 2nd floor full bath (2) 2nd floor hallway walk in closets, one is lined with cedar
huge full finished basement where my studio is, I added a ton of built in cabinets and shelving. I love it. huge unfinished basement utility / storage room
four car heated garage
The only thing this house doesn’t have is a bathroom in the basement. If I could change anything, I would knock down the wall between the main floor office and the formal living room to make the current office space bigger and add a closet, and then flip the office to the new smaller front room that faces the street side of the house. This would give us a main floor bedroom should we ever need that, and a cheerier space for the office with more natural light. For now what we have works well for what we need.

I would like two large bedrooms, 2 large bathrooms, a dining room, living room, family room, large kitchen, decent sized laundry room, and a 2 car garage.
It's very hard here to find houses with larger rooms instead of many, smaller rooms. Ideally I could custom build what I want but that will never financially happen.

I have way too much house for one person, but I don’t want to move. I keep the heat and a,c comfortable on the main floor, but not on the upper level unless someone is going to sleep up there. it saves a lot on utilities!
Main floor: Kitchen Informal dining area Formal dining room Formal living room Family room Master bedroom Guest bedroom Full bath 1/2 bath
Upstairs: Second master bedroom Two more bedrooms Small sewing room Large bonus room 2 bathrooms
Basement: Office Playroom/second family room Laundry room Full bath
Garage: 2 car 1/2 bath Storage room with shelves for extra paper products, seldom used small appliances, etc. Also has an upright freezer in there
screened porch on back of house off kitchen

My next house I want to be a lake cottage. On the first floor I want a kitchen, can be a bit small and a great room. I want my dining table and living room open. I'd like a fireplace in my living room. And then a master bedroom on the first floor with a full bath.
On the second floor I'd like one big bedroom with enough space for four twin beds so it would probably run the length of the house. And a full bathroom up there. With some storage space up there.
I have it all mapped out how I want it in my mind. But that's all I want. I don't want a big house at all.
However,my current house is only 1200 sq ft if you don't count my basement. And its a fine size. Especially now that the kids are moving out. I have everything I need in my house and it feels plenty big enough. So if I don't get my lake cottage I'd be content to live here the rest of my life.

I think I've got what's good for me now. Moved into a duplex/condo. They didn't come when built (2003/4) with finished basements (plumbed for additional bathroom if wanted).
Upstairs: Spare/bedroom Large bathroom Master ensuite Closet laundry Kitchen and adjoining living area
Attached garage w/separate entrance
Downstairs: (previous owners update) Third bedroom 3/4 finished basement/bar/rec room Unfinished utilities/storage area
With the finished basement area it's 1827 sq feet (off top of my head from listing)
DS attends college in town. When we moved in he had choice of 2 extra bedrooms, one up, one down. He choose the downstairs room and I think he chose wisely. The basement has basically become his mancave and he has nice set up with computer/audio/visual and gaming. While he's in school it's free. He's welcome to stay after but will pay something. I really don't care how long he stays as it's like his own apartment down there, suits him and he helps me out. It wouldn't be used as much if just me. Or I'd change it up some, less electronics and more crafty but I really don't need that space.
Just the upstairs suits me fine. No separate dining area with the all in one (Great room?) kitchen living. The high vaulted ceilings and sky light makes it feel spacious.
I think this could be it for me, last home purchase. But then again, who knows.
ETA DS has to come up for bathroom but he's young and doesn't bother him one bit. If he ever decided to make it more apartment I'd be fine with him completing bathroom down there in lieu of rent til paid off. He worries he's "taking advantage" and should move out from "mommy". I told him times have changed, multi generational living is becoming more mainstream (and it makes some sense in my opinion). I could rent to someone else why not him. I think some of it is his worry to be "normal" (whatever that is) because he's on the spectrum/anxiety. I find him to be more "normal", kind and level headed than much of the general population. And smart as a whip. Which he would also disagree with..."I just have a lot of interests. But I digress..

Currently living in an almost perfect layout one story, pretty much and has what I have wanted; - Entry to see through living room, pool and yard view - High ceilings - Large kitchen with island open to large family family room - Eat-in nook with yard and pool view - Dining Room
- Interior full cabana bath - Lots of bathrooms - Video game room/den - Guest room - Bird room near the family room - Craft/Lego Room with full bath - Hobby room for D/H - Large primary bath - Separate walk-in closets in master - Lots of linen closets - Three car garage - Pool and spacious patio - Minimum 1 acre - Laundry room with lots of built-in storage What I wish this house had; - Large walk-in pantry - Larger Craft/Lego room to layout a Lego City (we don't have basements here). Now everything is on shelves. - Walk-in closets in all the auxiliary bedrooms - Outdoor kitchen - Different location of the primary bedroom, it is off the living room - Larger covered area on the patio - Gas cooktop - Side load garage - Gazebo area in yard for D/H to smoke cigars to move him away from the house (he wants that too)

Our rooms are exactly what we want for DH and I, but they layout is what I’d change. Our house was originally an A frame and the owners put the main bedrooms upstairs. I’d love it if everything was on one level and if it was open plan. Our kitchen is at the back with the staircase between it and the dining room and living room. We have a huge master bedroom, guest room, office for DH and office/craft room for me with two bathrooms. Oh, and main floor laundry. Our laundry is in the basement, with very steep stairs.

Honestly, for me the size/number of closets/storage spaces is equally if not more important as the number of rooms. In my dream home, every room including kitchen and bathrooms must have a large closet/storage/pantry area attached.

It depends. I can't currently do any cleaning, and even at my best I can only do a small amount. So this house (4 br, 2.5 ba, kitchen open to family room, separate living and dining rooms) is bigger than I can handle. This is considerably smaller than our prior house in WA.
BUT
If I could have someone clean for me, then I'd like an extra room so my craft room doesn't have to also be the rat room (daughter's pet rats), a bigger bedroom for DD, a bigger office for DH, and a separate room for his music. And just one large open area for all living. And a slightly bigger kitchen (ours is surprisingly small, but I like it). Oh, and I'd like a proper laundry room like I had before, and a walk-in pantry. We looked at loads of houses in FL and every single one had the W/D in a small space between the garage and the main part of the house. I used to have a huge laundry room, and I do miss it.

I moved into a condo a year ago and it's pretty perfect. I would move for location more than I would move for more space. That being said, I would love to have one more room where I could put the cat boxes. They are in the office/guest room now. I will never have guests so I don't worry about that, but it would be nice to not have them in there on the rare occasions I use my office instead of the laptop. More storage would also be nice, but I could get away with the little I have if I could work up the energy to purge.
The guest room has its own vanity with a door to the main bathroom. I want to get rid of that and incorporate that space into the bathroom so I could have a bathtub I could actually use.

I want basically what I have now but just a little bigger. Two bedrooms, one of which we've turned into a craft room, a nice size kitchen with lots of storage and counter space, and a cozy living room. The only things I would change is to have a bit of a walk in closet a food pantry and a larger storage area.

My perfect space would be a single story open studio with alcoves in the shape of an "E", with a 6ft wide storage closet running the length of the long side of the "E", with an attached garage and a small patio area.

My dream home would have a sea view:
Downstairs: Open plan lounge big enough to seat 6, dining room and kitchen (with utility/laundry room opening off it) Conservatory Hallway with big coat/storage closet Toilet 1st double guest room with one of those beds where one half can be stored under the other half so it can be a day bed/sofa in the day. This would double as an airing room, and would be for Mum or DH's parents to stay 2nd double guest room with the same bed, also set up as DH's home cinema room (for my brother to stay) a Jack and Jill bathroom (shower and bath) and built-in closets between them Garage with space for 3 cars and a workshop for DH
Upstairs: Master bedroom with ensuite (just walk-in shower, toilet, sink & storage) for me and DH with built-in closets Study Craft room - these would be above the garage, with skylights and a view Cellar
Not that I've thought much about it...

Definitely bigger than what we have now, but we were lucky to find anything last spring in our price range when we moved from SC to VA. I have 3 stepkids who used to be here full-time during the summer and then maybe one weekend a month during the rest of the year but DH and his ex are modifying custody so the amount of time they are here over the course of the year is about to be greatly reduced, so their 2 bedrooms truly feel like wasted space. We have a small den/tv room that we're having to convert to the baby's nursery since I'm due in 4 weeks. The finished basement area is kind of like its own little apartment with a kitchen area and bathroom and then an open area that we use as our master bedroom. We really lack storage - no attic, no garage, no real closet space. We're on an acre of land with a beautiful mountain view so that's the biggest perk of this place!
Dream house would be minimal 5 bedrooms, tons of space and storage, separate rooms for dining, kitchen, living, etc. I hate open concept houses, which our previous house was, so even though we struggle with the space of this current house, I do like it more than the last because it has actual rooms with doors.

Ten years ago we bought our current house and I love the size. It's pretty big, but we live in an area where homes are really affordable.
We have:
Great room/kitchen/dining nook Dining room Study Small ground floor bedroom with bath that I use as a craft room 3 bedrooms and 2 baths on the second floor laundry room 2nd floor rec room 3rd floor giant bedroom with bath
What makes this crazy is that we bought this house when my oldest was about to leave for college and the youngest was in middle school. We actually upsized when we probably should have downsized. But this house has really worked for us and we love the location.
Oldest DD is on the autism spectrum and isn't interested in living on her own yet. We are fine with that. She's had the 3rd floor bedroom and 2nd floor rec room as a sort of apartment since she graduated from college. She does all the laundry, I love having her live with us.
Youngest DD had the 3rd floor bedroom in middle and high school and it was great for sleepovers.
Except for the fact that I have bad knees and this house has a lot of stairs, we love it. It has a screened in porch that we use almost year round. The back yard looks out over a field, a pond and a tree line. We probably won't downsize for a long time even though we are in our 60s.

I don’t need a huge house…no more than 2,500 sq Ft. Mine now is 2,100.
My rooms would consist of:
1 decent sized master bedroom (Not huge. Don’t need a sitting space in my bedroom.) 1 guest room 1 office 1 large bonus room/basement for my scrapping/claying 1 living room 1 dining room 1 decent sized kitchen (Don’t need it to take up one whole side of the house.) 2 full bathrooms, or a third half bath near/in the bonus room (1 bathroom in any sized house is ridiculous.)
2 1/2-3 car garage for cars and home gym

I'm happy w/the number of rooms, but I want more closet space. Storage is the big issue here. If I could I'd add on closets. Dh built a closet in my office and that helped and then he built a pantry in the kitchen, which helps. I still need more. We're getting rid of stuff, but there's still stuff.
I think it's true when they say that you spend the first 50 years of life accumulating stuff and the next 50 getting rid of stuff.

But this house has really worked for us and we love the location. We bought our upsized house just over a year ago and moved in last February - my youngest DD is in high school now (was in 8th grade when we moved) and my older DD was in college (she still is but moved out over Christmas break) and my DS hasn't been living at home for 6+ years. But it gives us space to have the older two come home for visits...they are living together so will likely visit at the same time so we need two guest rooms for them. We're in our early 50s (51/52) - and made sure to buy a house with a ground floor bedroom/bath in case one of us can't do stairs in the future (likely me as I still end up on crutches for a day or two a couple of times a year)

Growing up, I always wanted a large fancy house. In 2008 we built a large fancy home (7000 sq. ft. including unfinished basement). It had everything I thought I would want in a house, very large rooms, bathrooms in the bedrooms, study, large foyer, etc. But it was so open and there was no privacy at all. The family room was two stories, and the "hall" upstairs was open to the family room and foyer. If I was sitting on the sofa in the family room, I could almost see into each room including bedrooms upstairs. It was also very loud. We lived there for 2 yrs. and then moved back to our other 2000 sq. ft. house (1 mile away). I am so much happier here in our smaller house and much nicer neighbors.
In our current house, I just want white kitchen, new family room furniture and new carpeting. It's all 20 yrs. old or older, so it's needed.

Let's see.
Big eat in kitchen with walk in pantry Dining room (though it wouldn't even have to be a formal separate room, off on it's own away from the every day table, for when we have parties). Family room Wet bar somewhere near the above. Laundry room/Dog wash room Library/Study/office Craft room Master bedroom with sitting area and large bath Two more bedrooms, each with own bath if possible.
This is my absolute dream house. But we have enough space really for the three of us (and likely soon to be two of us as hopefully dd will be getting a full time job and an apartment soon). We currently have kitchen (with small peninsula with seating) , dining room, living room, laundry room, and half bath downstairs and three bedrooms, two baths upstairs and an unfinished basement.
ETA: Our previous house that we lived in for almost twenty years was TINY so this feels super spacious even after four years.

We currently live in a Jr 4 apartment - LR, BR, small galley Kitchen, small bathroom and a small room off the kitchen (7'x9' which is the Jr).
At a minimum, I'd love one more bedroom, proper dining space, larger kitchen, at least one more bath plus closets. I'd love a walk in for our clothes, a proper coat closet, nice sized pantry, linen closet for each bath plus a storage closet.

If I was building right now with more money than I have now but not lottery levels--- with only right now in mind with 14 year olds and no major mobility issues-- - Good size kitchen with either a good eating area and/or dining room
- Butler's pantry
- Living room
- 1 or 2 Game/bonus/family/theatre type room(s) (probably one in basement since we are in MN but could be two separate areas--one on main or upper level)
- 1Master bedroom with bath
- 1 Boy bedroom
- 1 Boy bedroom
- 1 guest bedroom
- 1 office space and/or cottage/she shed type area
- 3-4 stall garage and/or storage shed space
- 1 other full bath in basement
- 1 other full/half bath on main level
- Gym space
- Laundry area near bedrooms
- Mudroom off garage (again, MN)
- Some sort of indoor/outdoor entertaining area with a hot tub
- A "mother-in-law" patio apartment with a shared walk space to the main house for my mom
- A nice amount of property with wooded/recreation area
- Probably under 3500 Sq for main house
Pure fantasy Some type of pool and ice rink area (indoor for full-on lottery winner) and/or on a river or a lake instead (not as much fantasy in MN---but $$$$ than I will ever have) Library/reading nook Secret room

My house is decently big for being in the middle of a city (which is my #1 criteria -- I hate driving! I hate commuting!), but we could use one more bedroom (it's a five-bedroom house but I . . . I have a lot of children).

One feature I love about our house is the coat closets. There is one in the entryway for guests and one by the backdoor to the garage between the kitchen & pantry for our coats. Very handy when I'm heading out to go somewhere.

I would want a ranch
4 bedrooms (master, 2 for kids/guest, craft room) 1 kitchen 1 family room/den/living room whatever you call that room 3 bathrooms 4 car garage (for our ATVs, tools.. DH stuff mostly) and lawn stuff (which then I would love a shed) basement
Currently I have 3 bedrooms, family room, kitchen, 2 baths and 2 car garage and no basement.. about 1,500 Sq. Ft.
