The truckers protest in Ottawa is out of hand

They're a bunch of assholes. I am 100% against this whole shitshow. They're turning this country into something completely unrecognizable to me right now.

Love that the go fund me got shut down.

I read an account of someone who was arrested and he was a 29 year old from Washington State. I guess it's not enough for the patriot humpers to screw up our country, now they need to Trumpify Canada too.

The feds can do anything about these protests.  It's a civic policing issue and the police chief has done nothing. He needs to be fired ASAP.  He has lost the confidence of the citizens.  The city has declared a state of emergency so they'll start throwing trucks out soon.

I live in Ottawa and I have to say our police force sucks. Instead of trying to maintain any semblance of law and order they are allowing the protestors to set up structures, a food kitchen, bonfires etc in a downtown park. A downtown park where I might add a bunch of homeless people were evicted from a while ago for daring to hang a tarp between 2 trees. They are also allowed to set up a staging area in a city run parking lot. One of our largest malls has been closed for 7 days now and no plan on re-opening. A ton of minimum wage workers are being denied their right to earn a wage. A bunch of downtown restaurants that have closed off and on during lockdowns are finally allowed to open as of last Monday. Except no one can get to them to deliver supplies, the workers can't get to work and even if they could who wants to eat in a restaurant with the sound of constant truck horns and the smell of diesel

Our mayor is not running for re-elections so he is doing nothing. Our police force apparently has a large contingent of good old boys who would rather party with the protestors than enforce law and order. Our useless tool of a Prime Minister is hiding out. It is a complete shit show and somebody is going to end up dead or seriously injured.

I can’t believe I know people (tangentially) that actually support this bullshit. The fact that law enforcement is doing nothing, just letting this go on and on…I can’t believe it.

That’s generally how these things go, the assholes hijack the well intended/meaning.

Although given the intent behind it, it’s hard to see it as well meaning. But I digress.

Yeah, my brother told me that our longtime friend unfollowed him.  My brother has a background in political science and is really knowledgable about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.  The same guy is my friend.  He keeps talking about his eroding freedoms.  How his Freedom of Choice is being eroded (F of Choice isn't a thing).   He wants main stream media to be abolished. Umm, you mean freedom of speech? How free are you if you only have the voice of one side?  Of course my brother was correcting him LOL.  

My neighbour across the road appears to have left FB all together.  She was posting convoy updates every 2 minutes and gets upset if anyone corrects her. 

The convoy(s) across the country represent a very small minority of people (2% of Canadians) but they've felt empowered given their international funding and support.  

That sounds crazy. I haven’t watched any news. How big of an area is affected by this?

According to CBC's Judy Trinh on twitter, they are dismantling the camps and there is a line of tow trucks. She shows pictures of a lot of police with big guns. They're clearing things out.

psiluvu that really sucks that the businesses around Parliment Hill will be so affected by this. After all the lockdowns. Ironically what the freedom convoy is supposed to be all about, getting back to work etc.

I saw a post saying the convoy people were so great because they had cleaned up statues etc. WTF?! The Terry Fox statue that one of you vandalized in the first place. Terry Fox who wanted to run across Canada in the name of science research.


For over a week there has been a block at the Coutts border crossing in Alberta. Not sure if other provinces are having blocks at their borders?

Probably about 8 or 10 square blocks.  It basically encompasses out tourist area because it started in front of the parliament buildings.  There is a large high end mall and then the Byward Market area that is filled with a ton of restaurants and small shops .  There are also a bunch of condos down there with people who can't sleep or go out because of the noise and diesel smell. There are a lot of offices too but most are still working from home.

Also a large portion of our homeless population lives down there.  The noise and chaos is not good at all for those with mental health issues 

Last Sunday there were protestors who showed up at the Shepards of Good Hope soup kitchen demanding free food.  The only good thing that happened from that is that the general population was so disgusted that they received a ton of monetary and food donations.  

According to a friend who lives on the fringes the police may finally be doing something.  They are apparently not letting them move the large diesel jerry cans they have been transporting all week to keep the trucks running and the horns blaring.  

Hopefully they clear them out and the businesses can open and the residents can get some peace and quiet.  Some residents are trying to have a class action lawsuit certified against the organizers of the protest for 10 million dollars it was adjourned until tomorrow so we shall see.  There definitely needs to be some repercussions.
