A local weatherman/reporter is now doing a regular cooking segment on the news. It started as just a weekend thing and looks like he is getting weeknight time now, too. At least he did tonight. We live in an area with so many great restaurants and chefs, I'd rather see some of them profiled if they need to do a cooking segment. Do your local News team do these type of segments?

Ours ( before pandemic) profiled local places like diners, bakeries, etc. Great free publicity.

My local stations bring someone in to cook, I *think* once a week. And they do segments on local restaurants.

Yes and the morning news anchor even got her own weekend coming show. I think the segments are lame. You can't do much in 2-3 minutes.

The Saturday morning show we watch does a lot of those sort of fluff pieces. We also watch a weekday midmorning show where they will have a local chef or a nutritionist connected with a grocery store do a cooking segment. I don't recall the actual news personnel doing anything hands on on that show. And then the evening news is more straight news and never has that kind of piece.

Not on weekdays. On weekends, yes.
Like there's not enough news?

On the weekend we have a reporter that goes to the "Blue Flame Kitchen" which is a professional kitchen run by a natural gas company here in the city ... she profiles a bunch of recipes with a professional chef throughout the morning ... it's good because he knows what he's doing

It seems like most of the news shows are making the news about the hosts lately.
Our local channels are doing this even. A woman who is a part time host is even talking about “writing” a cookbook.
I wish they’d go back to using local chefs. They need the publicity

I don't a short bit of fluff. The news is typically depressing or infuriating, so a bit of relief from that is okay in my book. Although I do agree that showcasing local places would be nice. Mind you, if they did that, then some people would surely complain about who they had on the show and who they didn't and how long the wait list is to be on the show and blah, blah, fricking blah.

Our afternoon news show has some lady who comes on w/ the all the news personalities and cooks very elementary recipes which they all the personalities ooh and aah over. She does things like "elevating" a boxed macaroni and cheese recipe by adding a cut up tomato.
I love to watch professional chefs cook and I think amateur cooks can learn so much from them, but now every celebrity who has mastered the art of boiling water thinks they need to have a cooking show. I don't think that Julia Child would ever make it on tv these days.
