Sooooo, the demo was the week of Thanksgiving and it was finally getting toward the end. I'm so so happy with the way it's turning out. Then our crew all got Covid a few weeks ago (5 days off the job... they're all vaccinated.) And some random pieces haven't shown up yet... 42 x 42" piece of glass for the half wall in the shower and other things. But that was all ok by me, rolls right off my back, because I'm so pleased and it was almost finished.
DH took a careful shower on Monday (because of the glass wall,) and I watched downstairs as water came flooding through the new kitchen ceiling and out all the light fixtures. Aaaaargh! Yesterday was spent drilling holes in the new ceiling and bathroom walls to try and figure out the leak. The plumber is on safari in Africa for three weeks. My crew tells me they can fix it. They really are fantastic and I know they can. But still.
Fortunately no damage to the cabinets.

I would love to see photos if you get the chance! We're about to embark on a kitchen gut and reno.

Sounds very familiar, including the COVID. As of yesterday we are about done. Renovated all five bathrooms, started December of 2020. Within the first week the crew came down with COVID, back then out two weeks. Then constant issues from supplies to no labor.
Within a week of completing the main bathroom, woke up to a flood. A worker drove a nail through a pipe. Now just small things, like a hairline crack in a tile, mirrors aligned wrong and a light not working.
Hope they resolve the leak and repair the damage quickly.

Nooooooo! I feel you. We're having the rest of the floors refinished starting March 1, then the other two bathrooms and basement done this summer. Then the whole place will be up to date. First time we've done pretty much anything since we built the house 25 years ago.

I would love to see photos if you get the chance! We're about to embark on a kitchen gut and reno. Absolutely! We changed the layout of the kitchen, and I love it so much better. We picked our contractor first (I've known him for years) and he had really great contacts for kitchen design and tiles. I'm really happy that we're doing this.

Oh noooo! That would be so disappointing! I’m glad your cabinets weren’t ruined and that you caught it before the whole ceiling caved in. 😳😬
A friend of mine was having an upstairs bathroom renovated and had a similar thing happen with a plumbing leak. The family wasn’t staying at the house while the work was being done so no one noticed that the whole ceiling was filling up with water like a balloon. It came crashing down in the middle of their dining room. It was a HUGE mess.

One time while my mama was watching my boys when they were little, we had a similar incident. One son (between 3-4 at the time) plugged one of the sinks in their bathroom to float his boats in. He had the faucet turned on full blast and couldn't turn it back off. So in true little kid fashion, he just closed the door and walked away. We're not sure how long it ran, but enough to fill the ceiling in the family room below and cause it to crash down just like that. I walked back in the house, said 'what's that noise?,' and watched the ceiling start to collapse in real time. What a mess! maryannscraps, I can only imagine seeing the water come through like you did. Yikes. You seem to have a good attitude about it and really... what can you do? Hopefully they get it all fixed and you're enjoying your new spaces sooner than not!

Bathroom renovations terrify me for this very reason. Leaky pipes, showers not properly waterproofed, you name it. So much potential for problems. Water is so incredibly destructive!

maryannscraps you have such a great attitude but I bet that was a pretty awful moment.
We did 3 bathroom gut jobs over 2 years & a minor cloakroom reno for good measure. The only time we had water running through the house was luckily while we had the walls open downstairs too for some work we were doing down there (sadly, it was the morning of my father’s funeral but at least our contractor came running).
We’re mid-kitchen-gut right now. I CANNOT WAIT for it to be over but I know we’re still weeks out from that. Started beginning of December by knocking down a wall, putting in a beam, swapping a door for a window, so even though the kitchen wasn’t completely ripped out until the end of January it already feels like forever!
Would love to see pics when you are ready

What an ordeal! Glad your cabinets weren't damaged, and I hope the rest goes smoothly. Looking forward to seeing the pictures when it's done.

I think I would have cried a bit seeing all the fixtures "rain." Did you have to repaint or fix any of the lights? I am sure the cabinets made it through all right!
We're completely gutting our kitchen in April and I have high hopes it will be done the first week in June. We have a trusted contractor, a kitchen cabinet/countertop business we worked with in 2001 (and loved), and a good amount of space to store everything in until it is complete. Our contractor has had several electricians and a plumber in to do estimates and we'll go from there. When they say cabinets in on May 9th and done on the 13th, I am holding them to it! I know I am seeing this through rose colored glasses, but man, I hope it all goes well. The kitchen area is 20' x 20' and we have to move some appliances, so things could go wrong, but the cabinet manufacturers have already said the cabinets will be done 3 weeks prior to installation, so that is good.
