Ketanji Brown's husband is related to Paul Ryan. Her husband has a twin brother. This twin brother is married to the sister of Ryan's wife. It's not a close relative by marriage but... Interested family politics.

I like these kinds of āitās a small worldā trivial facts. Itās not related to her nomination so a different thread seems cool.

We are asking YOU, the person to originally post, WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS INTERESTING? I was born into a family without being able to choose who I was related to (I don't recall getting to choose anyway since that would have to be before I was concieved) Single people in my family meet the single people in inlaw's families that clicked and got married. This is a normal societal happening in the US and around the world. You may want to look up 6 degrees of separation theory.

Obviously, her professional qualifications are important, but I think the personal details like this make any nominee or candidate more interesting and possibly, more relatable. Washington post explains the connection www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2022/02/25/paul-ryan-ketanji-brown-jackson/If I have this right, her husband's twin brother is married to the younger sister of Paul Ryan's wife NPR mentioned it in their article. www.npr.org/2022/02/14/1078086453/ketanji-brown-jackson-supreme-court-bidenJudge Brown said in that Georgia speech that being a federal judge was always her "dream job." But after Obama nominated her in 2012, actually getting that job depended entirely on events beyond her control, namely Obama's reelection.
"And when you add to that," she said, "the fact that I am related by marriage to ... Paul Ryan [then the House speaker], who was at that point running for vice president against President Obama, you can get the sense of what that period was like for me."
As difficult as that confirmation may have seemed at the time, it may in hindsight be something of a picnic compared to what she is likely to face her as a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court.I thought this other personal info was interesting, too Jackson met her husband, Patrick Jackson, when the two were at Harvard College. He was, she says, her first "serious boyfriend" and has remained that ever since. They have two daughters.
At first blush, they look like an improbable couple.
As she put it in a charming ā and candid ā speech at the University of Georgia law school in March 2017, "Patrick is a quintessential 'Boston Brahmin' ā his family can be traced back to England before the Mayflower. ... He and his twin brother are, in fact, the sixth generation in their family to graduate from Harvard College. By contrast, I am only the second generation in my family to go to any college, and I am fairly certain that if you traced my family lineage back past my grandparents ā who were raised in Georgia, by the way ā you would find that my ancestors were slaves on both sides."

I thought it was interesting but I live in Wisconsin. I donāt follow Paul Ryan (or anyone political) on social media so I didnāt know that!
ETA: I am close to my sister in laws husbandās siblings ā¦ but I couldnāt name my BILās wifeās siblings for a million dollars.
p.s. I apologize to every English teacher I ever had for all the mistakes Iām sure I made with possessives and plurals and apostrophes! š±

Itās interesting in a small world kind of way. I did a little reading about her earlier and Paul Ryan also introduced her several years ago during her judge hearing.

I don't think it was meant as a criticism of her, at least I didn't read it that way. Just an interesting personal detail about their diverse political backgrounds. Can you imagine if they celebrated a holiday together, what a political conversation might look like?

Heās been openly supportive of her in the past.
I donāt know - Iām so sick of the constant harping back and forth across the aisle. This was a nice bi-partisan thing to read - people from either side saying nice things about each other. Refreshing change.

What the hell is going on here? š I asked a question. Simple as that. I didn't understand why the OP felt it was an interesting fact. I just wanted to know why she felt it was interesting. I have a better understanding why others thought is was interesting. OP still hasn't answered that. Julee got slap happy. I slapped back.
