We're going on a road trip in a week, and planning to end up in Pawhuska to visit the Mercantile store and tour the Lodge.
Has anyone did this recently? Thoughts? Tips?
Thanks

You can tour the Lodge? That would be interesting. I'm sorry that I don't have any info. The mercantile would be fun. Enjoy your trip.

I haven't been recently, it's been about four years ago that I was there. The Boarding House was still under construction when we visited. You'll love it, it turned out to be a fun girls trip for us. You'll love The Merc! The gift shop is amazing and the atmosphere/food are great! Be prepared to stand in line to get seated to eat. Once you are in they will give you printed instructions on how to get to the Lodge property. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner so no matter when you go you can catch a meal. We ate breakfast one day and lunch the other. Both great meals. Take the little walk in town over to the Swinging Bridge, we got a kick out of walking over that. The town has so much more businesses open than when we went. I know there is P-Town pizzeria. I thought everyone we encountered was really friendly, and downtown Tulsa was also just such a great city. We visited the Philbrook Museum of Art (wow, beautiful, highly recommend) and didn't have a bad meal the entire time we were there. workingclassdog was recently there and can probably add more updated info than I have. Have a great time!

I have been to the Lodge and Merc (as she calls it)
It's awesome if you are a fan. You must eat at the restaurant in the Merc.. it's really good. She also has a Pizza place and ice cream store. I think there is or was going to be a steak place but I have never seen it.. so maybe that fell through or delayed?
There is also a store next to the hotel (which is next to the Merc) that carries most of her stuff that is sold in Walmart and very affordable. I bought more at that store than the Merc. There is all her kitchen stuff and clothing line.
You don't have to stand in line for the restaurant. You can now wander around the store or sit upstairs in the bakery area.. which is good too.
The town not much to do but there are a few quirky stores along the main street that are fun to browse in.
I didn't see the swinging bridge, so I'll have to see that next time.
I think I have been there four times now?? My mom lives about an hour from there so we usually make a 1/2 day road trip even just to have a good lunch or breakfast.
The Lodge is very neat to visit.. beware it is mostly dirt roads after the highway. Your car will get very dirty/dusty. The cowboy who 'runs' it is very nice. He sat with my mom and I for almost an hour talking about the family and town and whatnot. Very very nice. He's still there doing his thing. People do leave notes for her all over the house... it's funny to see them.. You can leave them anywhere if you want... Almost the whole house is available to you, even down to the little things (I wonder how much gets 'borrowed' and not returned.. it sure is tempting..lol)
Oh yeah, you have to check online to see if the Lodge is open for tourists.. it is closed for filming or family things sometimes. It's been 50/50 if opened on our visits.

I went in late December. Everything is open now except the Lad's Steakhouse. The Ice Cream/Sweet Shoppe, P-Town Pizza, Boarding House, Conference Center. Also if you like her Walmart line she has a separate shop around the corner from The Mercantile that carries ALL of that line. She can't sell it in The Mercantile. I have never done the lodge tour, but you do go to The Mercantile to get your pass and from there it is a bit of a drive. Also large vehicles like RVs/Buses etc can't travel the dirt road leading up to it because of certain turns. So heads up if that's what your road tripping in.
The bakery items at the Mercantile are delicious. The last time we went we shut the place down, it closes so early for a restaurant, (8pm I think) and they offered us EVERYTHING left in the case at no charge. It was all yummy.
Also try the cowboy coffee.

As many times I have been how did I not know they were closed on Sundays? I am shocked we didn't head up there on a Sunday afternoon.. although we do try to go in the middle of the week for less crowds.

If you love stained glass, make an appointment to tour Pawhuska’s Catholic Church. The windows were made in Germany over 100 years’ ago. Some of the windows depict members of the Osage tribe interacting with missionaries. The church had to get special permission from the Vatican to include the windows w/ members of the Osage tribes, since stained glass windows in Catholic Churches are supposed to depict scenes from the Bible or the lives of Saints.

We went about a year ago. So fun! You must have a ticket to visit the Lodge. Tickets are free of charge and you get them at the Merc.
Also, Ree has another little shop about two doors down from the Merc. You must visit that one too. Lots of good stuff, great prices.

Thank you everyone. We're coming from Saskatchewan, touring the Grand Canyon, then visiting in Phoenix. We were considering going home through Oklahoma (to see the Merc and Lodge) but it's quite a drive so we were questioning it... it's booked it now. And pj's and margaritas?! I'll supply, come visit!
