Our house is 3 bedroom with a home office. Whenever we have a guest one of the boys has to give up their rooms. This just isn’t ideal because well teenage boys! Their level of cleanliness is not guest ready. We’ve been thinking about using the home office as a guest room. The room isn’t super large though. We’ve got a desk and some book shelves in there already.
Anyone have any suggestions on beds? Is there such a thing as a comfortable sofa bed?

How about a futon or a daybed?

We do have a dedicated guest room but have had to use my office as well a couple times. Because it doesn't happen often, we move my desk out of the room into our bedroom and borrow a friend's Aerobed air mattress (with build in pump and headboard). I've slept on it before and knew it wasn't like the leaky mattress on the floor. If we were needing to regularly use the office as guest room, we'd go for a Murphy bed over a sofa bed.

That is beautiful! I would LOVE one of those in mine! But wow - that price, you weren’t kidding. 😄

DH recently moved his office stuff into the guest room because his other office, our 4th bedroom, is too full of his wargaming miniatures to function as an office. Don’t even get me started.
There’s a queen size bed in there so it’s a tight fit. The desk is narrow and doesn’t take a lot of space. It’s fine for now, but one of my projects after I retire is to organize his hobby stuff differently because it’s taking over our entire house.

I would either get a sleeper sofa for the office or just get an aero bed - they are surprisingly comfortable

We have a trundle bed in the office/guest room. I want to get rid of it and just buy a pullout chair. That bed takes up so much room, and we don’t have guest all that often. It often gets used as a place to throw things onto. 😆

My sbk studio shares w my spare room. I have a double bed in there. Enough room for 2 to sleep but not too much that they stay too long lolol
I'd love to get a 'bed in a cabinet" but at $3500 they are out of my budget right now.

We have a shared office (DH and I) with a queen size futon that my DH built from wood. We move the electric drums to the playroom/dining room when we have guests. We can also add an air bed in the room crosswise at the end of the futon if needed. My DD has a loft we can put an air bed under and DS can move his bed to the wall and put an air bed in there. We’ve been toying with putting doors on the playroom/dining room to use that as a spare room too. We can move the dining table out to the large entryway.

I have a guest room/office. It’s a regular queen-size bed on one side of the room and a long table opposite it. I also store my art supplies on shelves I had built in the closet. It’s comfortable and works well for us.

I plan to buy a Murphy bed for the office/guest room of my new house: linkI'll buy a white one, but it's similar to the link. We used one at my MIL's and it was fabulous. It's easy to put up and down, as well as being comfortable, since the mattress never gets folded.

I kept the double bed in DD's room when I converted it to my scrapbook room and added a desk. For the few occasions we need another bed, it's nice to have.
I would analyze how much space you really need for the office part of the room and see what's left. Maybe the bookshelves could go elsewhere or something like that.

I have a green velvet couch in my office that folds down to a bed that is pretty uncomfortable so we use the King sized insert for the bean bag as a mattress topper and call it a day. The kids love it when they visit. My dad will be here next week, we'll see what he says.

I’m visiting one of my sons this week. Besides their master bedroom, they had a nursery for my grandson, a dedicated guest room, and my son’s office. Now there’s another precious grandson on the way! So son’s desk etc has been squeezed into the guest room and grandson number one is moving into a newly designed toddler room.
The room is crowded but maintaining a queen size guest bed is a priority for them as we all come and go fairly frequently.
I think everyone’s circumstances are different. You just have to do what works for you.

DH jokes that our two individual offices (3-BR house) are stuffed to the gunnels specifically to prevent overnight visitors.

We ended up putting a small desk in our master for dh to use since he now works from home (Covid) most days. We had more room in our master and the whole room is really never used during the day.
Our guest room is used pretty often and smaller. It just made more sense to add the desk to our room. Luckily dh is very neat and needs a small footprint.
