I’ve been there 6-7 weeks and am so happy here. I knew within a week or two at my last job that it was not the place for me and even had an outside interview after I had started. But was thankful for the job, did a great job for them and tried to make it work.
Almost every person stops to talk to me when they walk by. (And the one that doesn’t…he’s not rude…he’s just not overly friendly) I have received so much positive feedback…more here in the first 6 weeks than I got in the 14 months at my old job.
I did figure out why getting positive feedback is apparently so important. In my marriage, I had no value. No value as a mom, a woman, a friend, a wife. It seems I need people around me to value me.
I enjoy coming home for lunch daily. It takes me 8 minutes each way. That still leaves plenty of time for a lengthy lunch. I get home at the same time I would get home when I got off work at 5.
I can totally see me retiring here. This place is very much like my first law firm job where I really enjoyed my boss and my work and especially my 4-day work week. But this place does not have the one awful woman in that office that rolled her eyes, sighed, made rude comments and rode my ass every day for nearly 5 years.
Granted I’d rather be out taking pics or gardening, but since I need to go to work, it’s nice that I no longer dread going to work.

Since we have to spend so many hours of our life at our job, it’s always good to be able to spend that time with people who appreciate us and what we contribute. Glad you found that right place for you! I’ve had several jobs where the work itself was okay but the other people working there were not, so I totally get it how the interpersonal dynamic is really a key to making a person’s work life happy.

Interesting article. Spot on. I’m not even talking about affirming words at my last job. I was there for 14 months. I never got my 90 day review. When my one year came up I didn’t get a review. I gave them a few weeks…asked about an annual review and still never got one. Then one day, late in the day I went to the restroom. While in the restroom a man came in, unscheduled, walked right past my desk and sign that said “ring the bell and we will be right with you” and walked to the back. I got a stern email from my boss telling me I needed to be at my desk so that didn’t happen. She can take the time to micromanage when I’ve gotta pee but can’t take the time to give me any review or acknowledgment that I ever did a great job. (The developer we shared a suite with gave me a professional reference for new job…he was the only one my new employer even talked to) I was respectful on my written exit interview I asked for, telling them about having no reviews and the fact that they make attorneys the managers of each office. I stated that just because an individual goes to law school and passes the bar, that does not necessarily qualify them as good management people. I told them that a good manager would’ve recognized the restroom situation as something I did not need a reprimand for.

I am so happy that you are in a place that you feel valued, you are happy, and you are comfortable! I completely understand the feeling. I was at a company for 9 years. First 5 years I loved working there, then with upper management changes it slowly became toxic. When I came back from maternity leave, they completely changed my position and it was HELL. 2 months later I was recruited to a new company. I have been here 4 years and am so incredibly happy. It is amazing what a *good* work environment does for you

That is awesome.. this is coming from someone who worked with an office manager who for 20 years was a thorn in my side. Eye rolling was just the beginning. EVERY DAY she would stand up in the front and watch her wristwatch as we came into the office. Her little snide remarks were just a great way to start the day... God forbid if you were ONE minute late.. she would let you know. (I was never ever late except if there was a traffic issue or something similar).. in 20 years.. maybe 3-4 times total. That was just the touch of the iceberg.
