Why didn't I listen to my gut. They have changed their times now twice already and still have 2 months before I leave for vacation. My return flight, which is the only flight they have, is now so early I won't be able to catch it. So much for cheap airfares. I KNOW I should have not done that. I'll get a refund, but now paying way more. stupid me.
It was first a nonstop home.(four hours).. then it was changed to a plane change in Vegas (10 hours).. now to this change. Ugggg... there is at least a few affordable options.. still twice what I originally paid though.
Oh well... that's life... and now I know I will never fly Spirit. Ever. I wish Southwest had some availability.. they are pretty much booked solid.

Spirit is awful for changing flight times by HOURS. Between that and how scary their planes are, Im happy to pay more to fly Delta.

We just had a family wedding where two different groups from different states had their flights canceled by Spirit. Not delayed, just plain canceled, on the same day they were supposed to leave. That was a mess.
Glad you're switching.

same thing happened to me...they kept changing flight times, and my return flight was when I was still on the cruise ship. I ended up cancelling...but what a stressful thing.

I hope they do refund you. My husband had scheduled a Spirit flight a couple of years ago because it was cheap, then he had to cancel it for some reason...I don't think they refunded it.

I refuse to use airlines like Spirit, Frontier, etc due to these practices. I pretty much fly only United now (for business and personal). They aren't the best, but rarely have flight time changes at all.

I flew Spirit one time. Never again. The flights were on time, but I felt like the plane was going to fall apart at any moment.
Then my brother got caught in that debacle from earlier this year.

They should refund it.. It says right on the email refundable. I usually always take Southwest and wish I would have done so this time.. Love their no hassle policy with luggage (within reason).. I am taking them outbound. Looks like JetBlue is the best I am going to get... anyone have problems with them?

For our vacation last December I was considering flying on Spirit but once I read some reviews I changed my mind.
We flew United instead, but they still changed DH's flight coming back to earlier, and for DS United changed his flight to one DAY earlier (going and coming back). This was after we'd paid and booked the flights.
Luckily by swinging around a few things we were able to deal with the changes they made, but I hate this new system-I thought once you booked and paid for a flight that was it. I had no idea the airlines could come along later and completely change your flight.

They aren't the best, but rarely have flight time changes at all. I fly United almost exclusively, but they too have had a ton of flight changes this year - although usually they're minor as opposed to changing a non-stop into a connecting. They just changed our flight to Europe this week scheduled for May by an hour or so. Spirit is just garbage and I don't say that lightly. I was pleasantly surprised by Frontier on my daughter's last two experiences. Southwest, has been HORRIBLE lately, absolutely horrible - and cancelled her return back to school after Christmas. They rebooked her the next day. I ended up booking 4 flights on 3 different airlines to try and get her back before a big ice storm and Frontier ended up being great shockingly. We haven't flown them for years as they'd been inching close to Spirit in my mind. She used them again at spring break with no issues. Considering something like 4/6 southwest flights this year have been delayed or cancelled, I'm pleasantly surprised. They still nickel and dime you, but for her who doesn't care where she sits, never checks a bag or even takes a carryon for most trips, it works out great.

I have flown many times in the last two years and it seems that all the airlines are doing that--discount and non-discount airlines. One of ours changed and we had just made the reservations two weeks ago. I expect more changes.
And recently their prices have skyrocketed (get it? ha)
I have a one way flight in June for $ 203 pp and now the same exact one is 571 pp. On the flight back from a different city we paid $160 pp and now it is $480 pp.
Oil + inflation + demand is really increasing the prices.

We had to fly Southwest for the trip we’re currently on and it’s been a shitshow. We had $900 in credit from a trip scheduled for late March 2020 that was obviously canceled due to Covid. Those were direct flights between Portland and Phoenix, which is pretty much the only time I’d take Southwest. But that credit was going to expire soon and I wasn’t going to just throw away $900, so we booked Southwest for this Texas trip.
First of all, the tickets were a staggering $1400 EACH. I’ve flown to Houston at least ten times on Alaska for work and it’s never been more than $900. But the flights were decent times with decent connections, so we booked. And then a couple months later, they changed our flights completely. Went from having short layovers in Denver both ways to having long (4 and 6 hours) layovers in Vegas and Chicago. Yes, Chicago, when we are flying Houston > Portland. 😑 And the return flight now leaves hours earlier so our whole final day of vacation will be driving more than four hours starting by 7 am, and then a ridiculously long flight home. 😜
So, screw you, Southwest lol. At least we’re having fun.

Yea, I've had minor changes by a few minutes but nothing more than 30 minutes. Luckily, most of my flights are direct (I fly Denver to everything west of here for work) so a little change doesn't impact me much. I do enjoy having status on United so I can sit in the front in the comfort plus section without having to pay extra, so I know my preferences are very biased because I'm used to having the extras! I'll admit my opinion on Frontier is based on experience from many years ago. Perhaps they are changing!! It's good to know because DEN has quite a few Frontier flights out of it as well.

If THEY cancel, they have to refund you - if you cancel and it's a nonrefundable flight, you're out of luck. Unless they lie and say it’s weather related. I remember Frontier cancelling our flight due to inclement weather (no refund, no accommodations), just 20 hours in the airport. Funny how the other airlines didn’t have to cancel their flights. I’m still bitter.

I'd take Frontier over Spirit any day and Frontier lost my luggage. Trevor Noah slams that airline on air at least once a week. It is just a joke for us now about traveling on Spirit.

Well it's all rebooked and now on JetBlue.. there wasn't much to choose from unless I am paying over $600 a ticket... JetBlue came in at $200 and I feel that is reasonable (I originally paid $75)
I'm kinda happy about this though.. it's going to be a long day as I have to go through JFK.. so MIA-JFK-DEN.. BUT I am an ex-airline employee (TWA) and there is the old terminal at JFK that was very famous in the 60s-80s, been in lots of movies.. and just recently turned into a TWA retro hotel. It looks like my layover is long enough to go check it out.. so making lemonade out of lemons.... I have been dying to go see it.. although it will be fast (if it happens) at least I can say I have seen it if I never make it back to JFK.

I agree with everything you have said. Everyone I know has a nightmare story to tell about flight delays and cancellations. From my own experience and that of my friends and family, AA and Southwest are getting almost as bad about delays and cancelling flights as the budget airlines. Delta still seems to be pretty reliable in my experience. Flying is just a miserable experience in today’s world, in my opinion. My husband and I have decided if we can drive one way in ten hours or less we don’t fly. I still love to travel, but I hate flying, which wasn’t the case in the past.

awe, glad it worked out for you!
I'm another one and done with Spirit too. We booked cheap tickets to fly to Vegas to catch a show. O M G. Nightmare, 8 hour delay on the return and for no apparent reason. And the most cheap uncomfortable seats ever ever.
I did recently travel on a fairly new cheap airline, Avelo and was pleasantly surprised. I'd use them again.

Collins to somewhere in California (maybe Orange County) once a week?

We have a tiny 12 gate airport 15 minutes from my house. When Southwest moved in, I always avoided them. They also housed Frontier, and other than their crappy seat size, we had good luck with Frontier.
