And my online digital portfolio?
As of May 27, I am officially unemployed and I would like to secure a job for next year before then. I am super nervous. I am experienced, but old by teacher standards, and expensive. 😳
I haven’t written a resume in 15 years. It sounds so braggy—but I suppose that’s the point. And I felt like I was repeating myself a lot.
I made the digital portfolio because I think it shows who I am as a teacher much better than my resume does. I don’t know if any principals will look at it, but I figured it can’t hurt.
Anyway….I don’t want to link it because it’s full of my private info. But if you would be willing to take a look, I’ll send you the link in a PM.
Thanks!

I thought you were moving to California?
If so, you want to contact those districts near you and ask about the processes. In my area of Ca teachers and staff apply to the district itself, not a school site. Cabinet typically has recruiting days and events. They take your resume and interview you. Then you go to phase 2 and 3. Then if you pass phase 3 you are hired.
There is a shortage in some areas and with the covid funding we have reduces class size again and hired more teachers so there is money for new hires.

Here principals only have a say when a teacher is transferring sites in district. They are the one that interviews. But to get in? Cabinet.

Also you may need to take classes to add to your credential. Here you have to have a clear credential - extra classes you took during college and/or classes provided by district. Not sure what a credential looks like in TX. You can discuss that when you call. Eta: that also comes with time.
And in many districts you will be set up with a teacher program even though you have taught. Because you are new to that district they help you get into the flow of scope and sequence and how district does stuff and support since you are new.
I think clear comes after 2 years ? I don't know it's a lot to keep up with.

I am moving…I just resigned my current position in TX so my principal didn’t have to lay anyone off (we lost allocations and if I hadn’t resigned, someone would have been surplussed). I have my job through the year and will get paid through August, but want to get my applications in now. I’m putting in an application through Ed Join and also following the directions on various district websites. I already have a valid CA credential. I have sent in the $ and everything I need to renew it (it’s been 18 years). I talked to the CTC and am following their exact directions. School around here are hiring NOW which is why I hope to have all my apps submitted this week! Thank-you for all of the advice!

Wishing you a successful job hunt, and wondering if you've found a place to live yet. I remember you're coming to my neck of the woods.

Wishing you a successful job hunt, and wondering if you've found a place to live yet. I remember you're coming to my neck of the woods. I’m trying to get a job first so I know where to live. I want as short of a commute as possible—especially with gas prices.

katybee I'm happy to look at it but don't know how much help I'd be since you're leaving the state. Good luck!

katybee, I'd be happy to look it over. Feel free to private message me. I'm a teacher of 25 years and an instructional coach. I've also sat on many hiring committees. Can you be specific about what kind of teaching position you're looking for? That may help me help you.
