Principal kind of half listened. Counselor only works one day a week, so no way to communicate with him face to face until Thursday. I made the call as soon as I left principal. Never had to do this before. Not sure what happens next. Unfortunately I’ve had to do it many times. Often I don’t hear anything after the report. Sometimes I get an email just stating that they’ve closed the investigation. Every once in awhile a case worker comes to the school and investigates further. You did your job OP. Just continue to be there for the kid and don’t hesitate to make another report if you feel the need to or something else comes up.

I'm not a teacher, but my DD is. Thank you for reporting this. That poor little girl needs someone to intervene and help. I also hope Chad is able to get some guidance.

My extended family member was that exact age when her abuse began by her grandfather. No one saw any red flags or if they did, it wasn't reported. Thank you!!

Lawyers in my district have advised, “You are a mandated reporter, not an investigator.” You have the red flags, let the professional investigators take it from there. This.......you are a mandated reporter. You must report this. They will figure the rest of it out. Echo this 1000%! You must report this to CPS!

I've been on both sides of this. My daughter was acting weird. I didn't realize why at the time. But now know that yes, it was due to sexual abuse. My other daughter, years later, had a teacher who would do anything to try to make our lives hell. DD had a bruise (ONE bruise) and she told the teacher the reason for it (rough-housing with my brother) and the teacher called CPS anyway. Bitch.
Having said that, this is an easy call in my mind. Definitely sounds like abuse is occurring. And you know, the mom might be unaware; we should give her the benefit of the doubt. But this sounds pretty classic for signs of abuse, specifically sexual.

As a 30 year veteran in Child Protective Services, physical aggression and sudden behavioral changes can be signs of trauma, upsetting family situation, bullying, etc. it is not specific to signs of only sexual abuse.
