Congratulations! That sounds like such a great fit for everyone involved, including the students and parents who will be lucky enough to call you their teacher next year! What will you be teaching? (Sorry if I missed that) 6th grade in my district is still elementary school, so I will be teaching some of everything! 😀 That is one of the things I like about it - I love math, and English, and science, and social studies and I’ll get to teach all of it. ❤️ We moved into the neighborhood the year the school opened (2003) and my oldest son started in special Ed preschool there when he was 3.5, so we really are part of the school’s history. They gave me their humanitarian award for my volunteering there in 2009 - so, my name is on a plaque in the foyer. I had a number of people stop by my classroom today - I’m back to long-term subbing in 4th grade for a teacher going through treatment for breast cancer (I covered her class for the month of February) - to welcome me to the official teacher side there. Although there was some grumbling that I wouldn’t be able to sub for them any more. 😂

Just wonderful! I haven't read the entire thread, so I'm sorry if I missed it, but do you speak Korean? So exciting for you! No, I do not speak Korean. I wish that I did! About 70% of our student body is Korean American, but only 2 classes per grade are Korean immersion classes with half of their instruction being in English. So, they spend half the day with a teacher who speaks and instructs in Korean and then flip to an English-speaking teacher for the other half of their day. So, basically one teacher per grade level is fluent in Korean and teaches in it. When I long term subbed for 6th grade last month, I was responsible for teaching the Korean immersion students Social Studies, but in English. Since we will be getting a second Korean Immersion class next year, I imagine that those two classes will simply flip in the middle of the day and I won’t be going in to teach any more. The Korean immersion classes have mostly students whose parents want their children to be able to communicate in Korean and not lose their culture. But there is a handful of non-Korean students in the program in each grade too. My neighborhood is predominantly Korean-American, but also with a mix of Indian and Pakistani-American families, and a number from places in the Middle East like Afghanistan and Iraq. The school reflects the make-up of the neighborhood - it was a great place to send my boys to as they learned a great deal from the diversity of cultures.
