Hi everyone!
I'm almost finished When I Found You by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It was a freebie on my kindle from a few months back so I decided to try it. It's only ok. The writing is basic and the story is predictable / slow. I'm enjoying it because it is an easy, quick read, but it's not my fav. Maybe I'll change my view once I get to the ending. I have about 20% left to go - so we'll see and I'll report back. I hoping to finish it today but today is dd's birthday party so I might crash after hosting 25 little ones!!
What is everyone else reading?
Paige.

Read Eleanor and Park. I heard how amazing it is, and I thought it was good, but wasn't as impressed as others. I don't want to say any more because I don't want to ruin it for others.
I am reading All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner, not getting to into it yet, may try a Christmas themed book instead.
Mr. Miracle - Debbie Macomber Winter St. - Elin Hildebrand Christmas Bliss - Mary Kay Andrews

Still reading All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner. It's been a busy week and I haven't had much reading time.

I was able to read two books this week:
Everything I Never Told You: I just thought it was ok, not great. A 16 year old girl is found dead (not a spoiler; this happens in the first sentence of the book!) The book chronicles the impact her death has on her family. You soon discover there are many issues in the family. I just didn't find the characters that compelling.
The History of the Rain: Where to begin? I LOVED this book. It is probably the best I've read this year. A 19 year old Irish girl is bed bound and is searching to understand her father (who has passed.) Throughout the book she tells the history of her family. The writing is so outstanding; it's poetic, funny, and memorable. You'll want to read entire paragraphs again, just because the writing is so beautiful. The book was long listed for the Man Booker prize this year and I think it should have won. I really can't rave enough about how wonderful it was.

auntkelly mentioned The Paris Wife by Paula Mclain last week and it was actually available through my state's online lending library with no wait list. So I'm reading that and enjoying it was well. I'm only about 30 percent done. Next up is Night Shift by Stephen King.

I'm still reading "A Breath of Snow and Ashes" by Diana Gabaldon, book 6 of the Outlander series. I really love this one, much better than the last one which was "The Fiery Cross". That one was a bit slow in parts, but this one is much more exciting and back to the usual amazing adventure-you never know what's going to happen next!
I am loving so much this series of novels-I can't even describe how much! I am thrilled they are huge-each is at least 800 pages which makes me so happy since they are so wonderful and I never want the story to end. Can't say enough good things about them or about this amazing author.

I'm finishing up Janet Evanovich's Top Secret Twenty One. I know some readers have grown weary of Stephanie Plum, but I still enjoy the books. They are the book equivalent of comfort food for me. Next up is: The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace

Still reading Alligator Lake by Lynne Bryant, should finish it in the next day or two, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars (I wish we could rate half stars on Good Reads!)
Next up is American Gods for book club. Has anyone read it? I'm curious to hear opinions.

I'm a quarter through Breaking Night by Liz Murray which I'm sure I heard about here.
It is the story of a girl with drug addicted parents (her mother is in and out of mental institutions and her father a regular in prison) growing up in New York. This story is engaging from the start. It is not told in a "woe is me" sort of way, it reads like fiction really, it is well crafted and genuine. My heart breaks for what this girl has seen and experienced at such a young age.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'm enjoying it so far.

I've never joined in, but I figured now's as good a time as any.
I'm reading three books right now...all three of them are parts of a series. I like finding a series with lots of books already written. It's nice to be in the same world for a while...and I don't like waiting for the next book to come out.
It Must Be Your Love by Bella Andre (The Sullivans [HASH]11) - I finished [HASH]10 yesterday.
Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick (Arcane Society [HASH]8, Dreamlight Trilogy [HASH]2)
Fractured Hearts by Rissa Blakeley (Shattered Lives [HASH]3)

I usually have several books going at a time (I have no idea why!) and a book on CD in my car. I just finished Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King on CD. It was read by Will Patton, who did a great job. I really enjoyed it--nothing supernatural about it; just a crazy killer guy. I am getting ready to start listening to 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. It's a book club book and for the first time, I am "cheating" and listening to the book rather than reading it. I just have several books I have to finish because they are non-renewable at the library so I decided to listen to this one instead. I just finished reading Wonder by RJ Palacio. This book has been talked about a lot on here over the last few years so probably everyone is familiar with the story--young boy born with terrible facial anomalies and what he faces at school, etc. It was really terrific. Our county did a county-wide book club on this book last month so I felt I really needed to finally read it. So glad I did. Now I'm reading Last Woman on Earth on my Kindle. It's a free rental with Amazon Prime. I'm actually on book two of it. I'm reading it because I love post-apoclyptic stories, but this is just so-so. The writing and editing leave something to be desired. I'm still enjoying it though. It's about most of the world being wiped out by some flu. Very few people were immune and able to recover and so far, only one woman. Which leaves her the target of everyone. On book, I just started All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I've heard people rave about this book, including the librarian when we checked it out. I hope it lives up to its hype. Oh, and I'm sorry to say Fidget, but I read American Gods for book club and really, really disliked it. It was weird and just not my cup of tea. I'll be interested to hear what you think.

I FINALLY finished Outlander (the first book in the series)!
When I finished it, I looked back in my kindle app to see when I had initially purchased it--yeah, back in MARCH!
I had to start it over a few times because I'd have big gaps in time where I wasn't able to read and would forget or I would try to read when I was half asleep and not remember anything.
I really enjoyed it and I've downloaded the second one. I haven't started it yet, but I hope to soon.
Other than that, I've been reading a lot of kids books about trucks...

I am reading Me Before You by JoJo Moyes, I am really enjoying it. On my Kindle
Also, reading, Nora Webster by Colm Toibin , shortlisted for Man Booker Prize. Set in Ireland in the 1960's, a widowed mother of 4 , trying to navigate her new life. Very well written.
Also reading ,The Art Forger byB.A.Shapiro historical fiction about the Gardner Museum art heist in the 1990's and a young female art forger . Okay, so far. Recommend by a friend , hope it has some sort of twist at the end.
Also reading, The Remedy for Love by Bill Roorbach. An attorney and a young woman, get trapped in a remote cabin in Maine during a blizzard . The blurb says it is a "poignant romantic thriller ". On page 124, so far dialog. Quirky.

I finished two more Sunshine State Readers... Capture the Flag by Kate Messner and Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin by Liesl Shurtliff. Rump is told from the point of view of Rumpelstiltskin himself, and wasn't quite what I was expecting. It was a good way to kill a few hours waiting for new brakes to get put on my truck.

I'm currently listening to The Andy Cohen Diaries by Andy Cohen. It's great if you are a fan of the Real Housewives or anything having to do with Bravo. The audiobook is read by him and I just think he's hilarious so I am really enjoying it.
This week I finished: Ten Tiny Breaths by K. A. Tucker and it was just ok. I skimmed a good deal of it toward the end once I found out the twist. Captivated by You by Sylvia Day and it was amazing! Another great Gideon and Eva book. I just adore these two! The Invention Of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. Good story and pretty engaging from the beginning. I'm glad too because I have read several others from this author and my opinion of them hasn't always been as others have said.
Looking forward to another good week of reading!

Next up is American Gods for book club. Has anyone read it? I'm curious to hear opinions. The book by Gaiman? It's different, I'll say that for it. I've read a lot by Gaiman and enjoy almost all of his work. American Gods was challenging for sure and not my favorite of his. I ended up liking it but it leaves you with a lot of questions. Good luck.

I picked up an older book of Lisa Scottoline - Look Twice. Maybe it was just me, but I thought it was so bad, I put it down after less than 20 pages. I have no plans to pick it back up - it seemed so incredibly far-fetched, I couldn't keep reading.
I am about half done with In Cold Blood, the classic by Truman Capote. Fascinating so far.
I did finish I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You by Courtney Maum. This was very sweet and is our book club read for December here at 2 peas. There are a few really funny parts; I enjoyed the quirkiness and the laughter. Decent read - I gave it 4/5 stars.
I am also about half done with Prisoners of Hope by Dayna Curry and Heather Mercer, the story of two Christian foreign aid workers who were taken captive by the Taliban just after 9/11. Good so far.

maryland (Eleanor & Park) - You're not alone. I thought it was kind of slow and just OK. Not the cats meow like others did. (I have Winter Street up next on audio) janeliz (Top Secret Twenty-One) - TS21 was way better than the last few. So I have re-newed hope for Steph. gottapeanow - (In Cold Blood) - I read this one in high school. Loved it. My teacher wasn't too thrilled I picked it for a book report, though. But it met the criteria for minimum number pages and American author. I'm still reading Emma by Jane Austen. I'm half-way in. I thought I would get lots of reading time (six days off for the holidays) but DH is keeping me busy.

Over the break I read Extinction Machine by Joe Maberry, part of a series about a CIA type group that fights different threats. I also finished The Big Burn by Timothy Egan, about a forest fire in the west in the early 1900's. Kind of draggy and not as good as his book about the Dust Bowl.
In progress this week is Alex Berenson's The Midnight House. I have several books on the shelf and loaded on the nook and am looking forward to more reading time over the holidays.

maryland, I also thought Eleanor and Park was just okay. However I did really like Attachments, which was not a YA book. janeliz will be interested in what you have to think about the Tragic Life of Robert Peace. I heard the author being interviewed by Judith Regan on Sirius and she just raved about this book. I'm currently reading The Language if Flowers. I've heard many good things about it over the years and happen to pick it up at a garage sale. I'm surprised how quickly I've gotten into the book.

gottapeanow I did the same thing with that Lisa Scottoline book. I stay away from anything by her, I really can't stand her writing. But I always seem to get her mixed up with another writer and then I'm disappointed that I was wrong.
I read Faye Kellerman's Murder 101, a Rina and Peter Decker mystery. Loved it. Rina and Peter have moved to upstate NY and end up in the middle of an art theft and murder. The new character, "Harvard", is great. I hope we see more of him.

I'm reading Hard Eight by Janet Evanovitch. It's one of the Steohanie Plum books. I agree with a previous poster who said these books are like comfort food. I'm late to the game with this series, but I usually read 2-3 of them a year. I sprinkle them in when I'm in the mood for an easy-to-read book that I know will make me laugh.

I finished The Paris Wife by Paula McLain which I really enjoyed. It's a novel told from the point of view of Ernest Hemmingway's first wife.
I'm now reading There was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me by Brooke Shields . Brooke Shields is about the same age as me, so I followed her career as I was growing up. Brooke shares some great stories about her childhood acting and modeling career, but the book is mostly about her relationship with her alcoholic mother. It's not going to win the Pulitzer prize, but it's a good read.

Hi Reader Peas!
I finished Anthony Doerr's All the Light We Cannot See. It was a very good story, and beautifully written. Like others have mentioned, I had a little trouble getting into it, but the chapters are short, so I just kept going.
I'm almost through Jandy Nelson's I'll Give You the Sun. It's a YA title, and it started off all teen-angsty and whiney, but it has improved dramatically, and now with 30 pages to go, I'm excited to read to the end,.
I have one more title to read on the Goodreads "It" List. The last one for me is Sarah Water's The Paying Guests. I may pick this one up next, Or I might read something else, then finish up the year with "guests." I'll let you know how it goes next week.
Happy reading!
