And I am FLOORED!
He has had a slight cough and a very random stuffy nose. We did a telehealth visit last week and his pediatrician thought it was allergies and post nasal drip. We both deal with this every spring. No reason to believe anything else.
His teacher tested positive for Covid last Friday. Per the school, all students in her class had to be tested yesterday in order to return to class today. So off we went to get tested yesterday morning. I was tested too, just because he was doing it already. I figured why not.
I was astounded when our results came in last night. Negative for me, positive for him.
I will say yesterday he seemed off. Just not quite himself, cough has amped up and by 6:30 last night he seemed exhausted. You know how you feel when you are sick... just absolutely out of energy. He was asleep by 7:15. Bedtime is normally 8.
Does anyone have personal experience with Covid in kids? I am going to call his doctor when they open, but just looking for personal experiences.
Ug....
Side note... the word Covid keeps coming up as a misspelled word. After 2+ years of dealing with this it still isn't in the online dictionary? lol

I'm sorry. I tested positive Monday and my 12 year old is home with a fever today. I'm not feeling horrible right now and probably wouldn't have even gone for a test Monday, but I have jury duty this week and was hoping for a negative so I don't have to go through the hassle of calling in sick to jury duty if my number is called. So far, they haven't called me...but I'm betting my number gets called for Thursday or Friday.

To add "Covid" to your dictionary, type it out here in the message box. When it has the squiggly underline for misspelling - right click on it and "add to dictionary".

We have had a couple students with it earlier in the pandemic and I am betting we have had more recently but the parents just write it off as being colds or allergies. Especially since the home tests supposedly are not terribly effective with the current strain.
I wasn't personally dealing with the kids at home, but I will say they are all fine now and parents said the symptoms were mild for the kids.
Hope your kid gets better quickly and you can avoid it yourself.
Just curious, does your son's class still mask? Some of our parents want us to remove the masks, but with only a bit more school left I hope we keep them on.

Sorry!
My girls had much milder covid than I had. My experience is the younger they are the quicker and more mild the symptoms. Hope he’s back to normal soon. I’m sure there are exceptions to this but it’s what I’ve seen.

I'm so sorry he's not feeling well. My children are not the as young as he is, but all 3 tested positive (at home test) mid-late January 2022. My 12 year old had minor symptoms and her cough was gone within a day or two. The next day my 10 year old was exhibiting symptoms, her cough was terrible and she felt bad, but next day was feeling better but cough lingered. 8 year old was the worst for the kids and his cough was terrible whooping, he felt bad for about 2-3 days, and his cough lingered for at least a week. He napped or went to bed early for the first couple of days. DH had his symptoms start right after 8 year old and he felt like he was hit by a truck. A friend of ours has an 8 year old and 10 year old and the 8 year old had one rough night and then bounced back. Her 10 year old has other health conditions and his breathing got so bad, she had to take him to the dr for meds. He got the meds and it turned around quickly for him. I hope your son gets better quickly.

I'm so sorry! My nephew's 3 year old had it a few months ago. He was a little sniffly and tired a day or two and was then fine. His mother who did not really attempt any isolation from him, did not test positive which was so lucky as she's pregnant.

My then 7 year old got it March 2021. If his father hadn't tested positive, and therefore we tested everyone in the house, I would never had known. Zero symptoms. He really could not comprehend that he was "sick" and not allowed to go to school. It did not phase him at all, but I'm assuming the antibodies that came with it got him through until we could get him vaccinated when vaccines were approved for his age group. I however caught it from him and his father the following week and ended up losing 10 days. I couldn't sit up or get out of bed. Couldn't watch tv, read, or work. It was awful.
I'm sorry your son isn't feeling well. I really hope he bounces back quickly.

My 4-year-old got it and it was a cluster. Monday morning at school she tested negative on a PCR. Monday afternoon she had her 4-year-old shots. Monday night she had a horrible night. Tuesday she woke up feeling crummy, but we assumed it was a vaccine reaction. Tuesday day she spiked a crazy fever and was babbling incoherently and freaked me out. I gave her Tylenol and took her into urgent care, they dismissed it as a vaccine reaction. Wednesday I kept her home and she seemed fine. Thursday sent her to school. Thursday I had a sore throat and thought I would test both of us (the rest of our family had it at the end of January). She tested positive immediately, I was a faint positive. We both tested positive on rapids for 12+ days.

My 3 and 4 year olds both had Covid in January. Both with very mild symptoms. My husband and I were fully vaxxed and had both boosted about 6 weeks before the kids got sick and neither of us got it, despite being quarantined at home for 10+ days with kiddos who snot and spit and coughed in our faces.
Overall, a lot of boring home time with mildly ill kids who didn’t understand why we couldn’t go to the playground.

My 10 year old caught it from me. I was checked out of life for 3 days (12/24-12/27) I was so sick. I tested positive 12/29/21 7 days after my first symptoms 12/22/21. She tested positive the same day I did. My 5 year old tested negative that same day, as did my DH.
The 10 year old had a fever for like an hour. The only reason we even checked her is because she had the same cough I started with. She legit was “sick” for 6 hours or so. We’re pretty sure both kids had the original strain Feb 2020.

aww, I am sorry! No fun for a 4yo to be sick. I wish him a nothing-burger experience.
Everything I’ve heard says most kids have very mild cases. It ran through my family around New Years … DIL and both step-grands (11 and 13) had it, all mild cases. My son and grandson and I didn’t get it at all or else were completely asymptomatic. We tested negative.
Stay well.

Thanks so much ladies! So sorry I didn't come back yesterday Trying to WFH and take care of the kiddo was insane. I ended up taking half a day off to devote to him. He is coughing a ton, no fever to speak of, though he has looked crazy flushed a few times. But no fever at all. Weird. By the end of the day he is exhausted... he looks like we feel when we are really sick and have zero energy left. So the past 2 nights he has gone to bed early with no complaints. He actually slept in this morning until 7:30, Normally he is up between 6-6:30. It is so odd though, he will go from looking like the sickest kid, to being hyper and bouncing around, then back to sick. Making my head spin lol Just curious, does your son's class still mask? Some of our parents want us to remove the masks, but with only a bit more school left I hope we keep them on. They dropped the mask mandate at schools here a few months ago. I wasn't entirely comfortable with it, but knowing that the entire staff at his school is vaccinated helped. When he returns he will be masked though!! Overall, a lot of boring home time with mildly ill kids who didn’t understand why we couldn’t go to the playground. Yes! Numerous times yesterday he wanted to go to the park, or a playland, or somewhere. Kept having to tell him no, felt so bad. Thankfully I am stocked up on art supplies and craft kits! For everyone who has had it, or kids had it, I am so sorry! This isn't fun!!!!!

I hope your little one will continue to be only slightly symptomatic. I think this new version of Covid is more prevalent than the media is letting on, at least the media I’m listening to. I’ve been hearing of more people that I know contracting Covid right now than I have in quite a while.

Both of my kids (4 and 8 at the time) had COVID in Jan 2022, as did DH and myself. My youngest (DD) had absolutely no symptoms at all and we only found she was positive because we had to test her twice since the rest of us were positive. Her first test at the same time the rest of us were positive was negative. Checked again 5 days later due to request from school for another check before coming back to school and she was positive. My oldest (DS) had a fever, body aches, and fatigue for about 36 hours and then was completely fine. Neither kids was vaccinated.
