![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/thumbnailer/pKxM0ctzWJGEjKNyvvqt.png) This morning we lost my "nurse-kitty", Fudge. She was almost 13 years old. She was a tortie and had very distinct colors. Half of her face was one color and the other half was more muted. She was super alert and very different, but DH chose her when we went looking for a little kitten. He wanted her because she was 5 mos old and overlooked. She was DH's biggest supporter when he'd nap or when he was sick too, but I felt that she was vigilant about my care after surgeries.
She was a loner, but she came to accept the tiny black furball we took in (he was only about 8 weeks old). They became best friends. He passed almost 3 years ago, at age 9. Too soon for an active, special, special kitty. He had cancer and one day it became apparent. Hopefully Fudge is over the Rainbow Bridge with her brother and with her daddy.
Fudge had urinary issues ever since we moved down here. It was UTIs at first and then they were constant and the vet assumed it was much more than even cystitis. He explained that since she's so "high alert", that the testing would probably set her off that much more. He knew that we brought her in and they had her on antibiotics many times, and that she wouldn't take the Prozac pill (she needed it after DH passed away--she was very, very anxious and depressed). We all opted that today was the day we ran out of options. It wasn't fair to keep having Fudge be in daily pain. She had no quality of life. It's so sad to think about because she'd still lie on me or DD34. She was staunchly loyal to the end.
RIP to my Fudge. I know you're not in pain anymore. xoxo (This is the 3rd cat we lost since DH passed in November. The loss seems to be constant and the house seems so much more quiet and empty with each loss.)
UPDATE on page 2. 5/11/22

I’m sorry honey. One more loss piled on another. Am I right in thinking fudge was the one who made friends with me?

What a rubbish time you're having. I'm so very sorry. I like to think they're back with Gary though.

I’m sorry honey. One more loss piled on another. Am I right in thinking fudge was the one who made friends with me? Yes, she was the one!! After I told you that she doesn't make friends, she went right up to you!! <3 She had been suffering with this supposed cystitis since Gary passed. At least she's not in pain anymore, and maybe she's even reunited with her "Daddy" now.

I’m sorry. I’ve had two torties. They have been my favorite cats. There’s something special about them. Hugs. I pray she found your late husband.

Thank you all. It's only been 5 months since Gary's gone, and it seems like we've lost so much more. Thankfully our veterinarian's office doesn't think we're just "doing away" with our cats month by month! She's gone to this vet many times and we tried everything we could to get her feeling better. Just seems odd to lose THREE pets after your husband dies. I feel afraid to love/touch anyone right now!!

I’m sorry. I’ve had two torties. They have been my favorite cats. There’s something special about them. Hugs. I pray she found your late husband. Oh wow! Did they also have the "two-face" coloring?? It's so fascinating. Her peds were different colors, as was her face and body. It was much more distinctive when she was a baby. DH chose her and we found out that her brother had been beating her up. She missed him when he got adopted. Story of her life. She ended up being very guarded and careful, but when she loved you, the love was DEEP and loyal. I heard that torties are like that. She'd guard DH after his surgeries or even during a nap!! She'd guard over me after my surgeries and just plant herself on my bed, next to me until I was able to get up.
She was SO very bright and intuitive. She wouldn't try to sleep on us when we were sick. She just guarded us. Were your torties like that??? Also, she was downright scary if she encountered a bug, snake, frog, etc., on or in her property!!! I found her on top of a long black snake outside on our lanai. She probably thought that she could kill it (she couldn't).
One more thing: I'll see if I still have the pic of the day I came home from the animal ER, where we took her "brother". He was a gorgeous, active, special black kitty, but one day he seemed very ill. He had cancer, all over, and we opted to put him down. It was something that really gutted us all. I took off my sweatshirt that I was wearing, and Fudge immediately sat on it with a sad face. She didn't move for hours. That loss really affected her deeply. She thought that the cat was her baby/brother. Same thing when Gary passed. She searched for his scent and would just sit on anything that was his. Is that a tortie thing too? ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/thumbnailer/OPXpPNJZlUfAWByYHUXO.png) ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/thumbnailer/gcdlhhoGIsL00OZfmaJz.png)

disneypal Thank you for your post on the other thread. xo (Here's a pic of Gary at age 72, able to sit cross-legged on the floor! He wanted to give our 5 cats treats. The 5th cat is on the left--can't really see her. Only 1 of those cats is still with us--the orange kitty on Gary's left side. This pic was only a few years ago but the 4 cats passed away, way too young!). Attachments:![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/thumbnailer/eSsbasudRtJGhRevpMFQ.png)

I do not know if it’s specific to tortoiseshell’s, but both of mine have been ‘nursemaids.’ My current tortie has a line down her nose. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220507/3b2b327516fd25561a5cad4736ad21fa.jpg) My first was a dilute like your sweet girl and very little her coloring was distinct.

I'm just hoping now that the 2 cats we have left (DD's 16 yo orange cat who's had kidney failure for 18 mos but he's responding well & my 2 year old black angel kitty, Levon) and DD and I stay healthy for a while. xoxo
