Why would the Democrats put forth something that they know a fucking Democrat will not vote for? How about stop playing politics with my life so that SOMETHING will pass? I've just about had it with the Democrats.

How do you get around the fact that Democrats only have a nominal majority in the Senate? It is one that is *desperately needed* because of basic things like judicial appointments, but there does not seem to be a way to bring Manchin on board for things like this, and the Republicans have party discipline (weird how supposed choice supporters like Collins and Murkowski can’t seem to act on that alleged conviction).

Collins want exemptions for religious institutions.
Manchin just obstructs!

Manchin isn't a Democrat. I think you should be upset with the Republican party for the damage they are continuing to cause our country.

Oh don't worry I hate republicans with every fiber of my being. I'm pissed at the Dems because they could put something up that Manchin would vote yes on but instead, decided to go too far. They are well aware of their slim margin and decided playing politics was more important that codifying what exists as Roe v Wade.

Manchin isn’t the problem.
The Democrats have been told literally since the day Roe came out that they needed to codify it. RBG herself said that Roe was shaky at best and warned that it would be overturned.
Dems have had 50 years to get this done. At no time in that FIFTY years have they made it a priority.
They don’t care about you any more than the Republicans do.

They don’t care about you any more than the Republicans do. To be fair, the Democrats did not hold the House, the Senate with a super majority and the White House during all of those years. In reality, they only had the ability to pass a law for a few of those years. And when they did, it wasn't a legislative priority because everyone thought it was settled law. Not only that, even if the Democrats did pass a law, that wouldn't stop the conservative justices or the Republicans. They would still find ways around it, they would declare the law unconstitutional and they would still ban abortion. They're so willing to overturn Roe, they allowed the crazy Texas law to stand. But, sure go ahead and blame the Democrats, not the Republicans who voted for the nominations of those conservative justices. The same Republicans that stole the nomination from Merrick Garland then rammed through ACB's nomination with just a week before the election. Or the Republicans who passed abortion restrictions at the state level with deliberate intentions to challenge Roe. Nope, the Republicans don't have any responsibility for this.

I'm annoyed with the Democrats, Manchin and Sinema in particular. However, I do think this will force the Republicans to vote yes or no on the issue. For years, Republicans have been able to claim they're pro-life without actually having to prove it. Moderates and independents still voted for them because everyone thought Roe was settled law. Now, the Republicans will have to go on the record. Whether or not voters will hold them accountable for that vote is another matter.

I know so many Catholics who, like Casey, are opposed to abortion but really troubled by government interference; super weird, but they seem to think the best course of action is to provide social and material support for pregnant and parenting folks.

True. Biden is Catholic, but supports choice. People do not understand that supporting choice is not supporting abortion.

People need to place the blame where it actually lies—with those who continue to block every piece of legislation that would benefit the people that they represent. I’m sick of people blaming the democrats—when they are the ones that are actually trying to move things forward.
They also said that they figured it wouldn’t pass but they wanted every senator to be on record with their vote so people would know where they stood.

I think this proves my point that conservative judges would declare a law codifying Roe as unconstitutional. This guy thinks the bill the Democrats tried to pass is unconstitutional. Legally, I don't know if he's right. But, I'm certain conservative judges appointed by Trump would agree with him. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/05/13/democrat-abortion-bill-codify-roe-v-wade-radical-unconstitutional/
