We'll be on HAL in August, RT from Seattle. My husband is dying for this trip . . . I'm of the "meh" school of thought but am looking forward to seeing a part of our world that I've never seen except for on TV. Stops are Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Victoria. Following this thread with great interest! My recommendation is when you are Juneau, before you head off the ship, let everyone else go. Then go to the buffet (breakfast or lunch depending on your schedule) and take it to the tables outside the buffet at the back of the ship. You are surrounded by the mountains, the water and fresh air. There is something magical about those mountains. I have done this on every sailing and we will do it again on this one. Great idea! Not sure how that would affect our excursion, if we book one, but I will tuck this tidbit away for later use! Thanks!

I live in Ketchikan. Will it be your first or last Alaskan stop? Our town is in full tourist mode after two years of quiet, its nice to see again. You will pass by my house on your way in or out. Also, do you plan to do the interior or just southeast? They are so different from each other. I don't think people realize Alaska has so many different areas to it.

Cant wait to check out Sitka, it is my 1st time to this port. We loved Sitka. We did a whale watching tour with a local company with a small boat (there were 5 of us). It was incredible. We had whales right by the boat. We visited the Bear Sanctuary (AMAZING). They had just rescued 4 cubs (their mom had been killed). We tried to walk around but it was raining pretty hard but what we saw we loved. It's a beautiful port to sail into.

Thank you for the offer for Canadian goodies but we are actually getting off the rock for a vacation soon so I'll stock up. Do you know if you are going to dock at town or at Ward Cove? If its Ward Cove I'm sorry. It's being built and so it doesn't look so great. You will probably be about over your vacation when you get here but a walk on Creek Street is always enjoyable.
