Oh, sorry. You will have another weekend to look forward to. It's been an usually cool spring here but no snow! Today it was over 90. My poor plants don't know what season we are in.
Happy Birthday!

What an amazing gift. Garden of the Gods is one of my favorite places I've seen, it would be lovely to see it from horseback. I hope you'll post pics when you go!
I used to visit a good friend in the area, and the last time I was there was a week in late April a few years ago. Seventy something one day, then two days later, 9" of snow with the schools closed. Y'all have c-razy spring weather!

It is a balmy 93 here in coastal Georgia. My youngst daughter is getting married in the Garden of the God’s Labor Day weekend. I am hoping it doesn’t snow kind of. Being from GA snow could make the wedding an interesting event. Memorable, yes that is what we will call it! Happy Birthday! We've had a great dump of snow the day after Labor Day. Thankfully our snows are generally just a day event and melt quickly- especially when it is supposed to be warm. I think that has happened only once in the 35 years we've been here. I'll bet her wedding day is sunny and gorgeous.

Ooh, I hope you get your gift ride/trip a little later on when the weather is more cooperative. Sounds like it will be fun! I've never been to GotG, but other family members have and it looks gorgeous! Enjoy! Our weather has been pretty solidly in the 60s & 70s for the last week or so, including a few beautiful days with low humidity & mid 70s...pretty much perfect. Fast forward to today for DS's outdoor commencement ceremony in the UMD stadium, where it was 93 with 81% humidity. Oh well, we got through it OK - we were in the shade under the overhang, plus there was a nice breeze going. But the kids (ahem, excuse me, I mean graduates) were in full sun in their black regalia. Ugh, I felt bad for them - they were all provided with plenty of water and big fans, but still - pretty hot. DS wore shorts and a lightweight polo under his grad gown, LOL. Also, yay, he's graduated!!

May 21st is my birthday too! And my plans for the day have just hit the wall also. My oldest and dearest friend moved to Texas several months ago. Our parents purchased homes on the same block, one house apart when we were both in diapers. We bonded young and have remained close friends all these many (many, many) years. She decided to fly back to California and several of us were going to meet up for an early dinner tomorrow. It would be the first time I would have seen her since she moved away. Oh, and she and her husband made the decision to move quite quickly. She called to tell me she was moving and leaving the following weekend! They just contracted with a realtor and moving services and drove to Texas, leaving the realtor in charge of dealing with all of the arrangements of selling her home and having a company pack their belongings. Her son and his wife moved there two years ago and since he is their only child, they just decided last minute to sell up and move to be near them. She had basically no spare time but there was going to be a last minute good bye lunch for her on a day that I already had a commitment for that I could not get out of. I didn't get to see her before she moved away so tomorrow would be the first opportunity to get together. And she timed it for my birthday on purpose too. She is only staying for the one day. She flies in tonight flies home Sunday morning early. And everyone is coming, including her sister, old work friends, and the rest of our small group that used meet up monthly for dinner and a movie. I haven't seen the movie group since she moved away either. That was predominately due to Covid though. I was thrilled she was coming and originally told her YES I would be there. Just about an hour ago, I found out that tomorrow is the only day I can meet up with this guy that is doing some of the financial arrangements to upgrade several things on my house since they are tearing up my flooring and walls anyway due to the leak. I don't have the money for expensive upgrades at this point and this company goes ahead and fronts the money and then is paid back after your home sells. My realtor feels I can get about $300,000 more for my place if it is turnkey ready for the new buyer. And at this stage of my life since I cannot work any longer, I really need that extra money. So, I can't meet with my friend tomorrow. I know we will see each other eventually, so this isn't like the only opportunity, but going forward one of us is going to have to fly to meet the other one in our new states. And since my plans were going to be screwed up anyway, I went ahead and arranged for another guy to come to take a couple of loads to the dump. I am getting rid of my family room furniture, my patio stuff, and several other things. He offered to haul them to the dump for me for the price of the dump fees only. The movers were going to do it, but they charge considerably more. Moving is expensive! So, my birthday plans are not happening either, 950nancy! But Happy Birthday!

So we ended up with at least a foot of snow and so many trees that have boughs on or touching the ground. It is now 34 degrees and the melting is in high gear. Lots of snow dropping and hopefully the trees that made it will be back up to their perky levels of reaching out to the sun.

950nancy, I would have said moving like she did was awful too and I couldn't do it. BUT, I have spent the last week with movers taking everything from my downstairs area and packing it into PODS to be stored in their Los Angeles facility until I am ready to leave the state. I am exhausted and sick of moving already and I haven't even left the house yet. Once my house is sold and I am ready to go to Oregon, I just call them and they transfer my PODS to their Portland facility. They will remain there until I buy a house and can provide them with an address to deliver my PODS to. Then I will hire movers to unpack the PODS and put the furniture in place and stack the boxes up according to which room they belong in. I had intended to pack all of the boxes myself, but time got away from me and the realtor I'm using talked me into using this moving company to pack and load the PODS for the downstairs so that the people that are tearing up my flooring and removing all the walls can get started. They will be ripping out everything that was damaged from the water and before we start putting the walls back, I am having a company come and completely redo all of the piping in my house. That will cause additional mess and I wanted my belongings out of the house when that happens. I have had three neighbors getting leaks in the past two weeks! We are all going to have to replace our copper pipes, everyone in the county! I sure wish the water district would pay for at least some of the replacement costs since they are the ones that added whatever is eating through the copper. And OMG, after seeing the one pod that they packed so expertly, I would never have done such a great job loading that thing. The boxes go right to the ceiling and then they used the eyes on the side of the POD to anchor them in place. I'm very good at packing each box. I even bought this special plastic strapping material and metal tabs to be crimped shut after the box is packed. That way, if my tape comes undone, the box won't pop open. I also used heavy-duty Gorilla duct tape on the bottom of each box so that they will NOT come undone. But I would be horrible at stacking the boxes up that high in the POD. And obviously I can't move the furniture either. I am already at the point of making piles of stuff that I just don't want the hassle of moving. My neighbor is coming to help me sort it, tossing some into a trailer for the dump, taking anything she wants first and I already have a big Freecycle pile on my front porch so that I don't have to be here when someone comes to take it. I hate putting things into the landfill, but I also don't need so much stuff at my new place. Hopefully everything gets snatched up via Freecycle first. So after living here the past week and dealing with the commotion of moving, I think my friend had the right idea. Let someone else handle it. She said she used the POD system as well and that there wasn't a single broken or missing item. She said she packed a few personal things into the U-Haul trailer they were pulling and left everything else to be done for them. I'm sure it was expensive, but she said she will never do her own moving if she ever moves again. I'm starting to see why she made that decision. Oh, and she had a trusted neighbor go through the house before they closed up her POD to make sure they didn't miss anything. They hadn't. Her realtor then had a staging company come in and her house sold within the first week. Easy peasy!

Fifteen truckloads went to a Goodwill (one was the size of a trailer you can haul a vehicle in). My craft room was the worst room to move. Thankfully my move was just 7 minutes fro our old house.

950nancy, I've been in mine for 44 years! And I know what you mean about your craft room being the worst room to pack up. Mine too! I plan on buying a small house with either a big basement or preferably a large shop out back. That way I can do my crafting, metal work, and wood work and keep my entire house nice and tidy. All I really want is 2 bedrooms, but most of the houses that I've seen on Zillow have 3. I want single story too. And I really want 2 bathrooms. I've seen several homes that would work beautifully, but they only have one bathroom. If I can afford it, I will add a master bathroom once I get situated. The older I get, the more I appreciate having a bathroom only a few steps away from my bed. Did you downsize with your move? The prices in the town in Oregon are so much more reasonable than where I am in Southern California. I keep looking at two-story homes with 4 bedrooms because they are so nice and the price is not bad, but that is what I have now and what I want to get away from! I have to pull myself back and remind myself I want a single story SMALL house this time. I can still handle my two-story home on most days, but when my fibromyalgia is flaring up, each stair is so painful to climb. So I think it is smart to skip the stairs when buying this time. Unless it is stairs to the basement and I set up a craft room down there. I would only be crafting when I felt well, so I wouldn't need to do the stairs multiple times a day like I do now. I think I could handle a setup like that. Getting old sucks. And if I live as long as my Mom's side of the family typically do, I've got many many years to go. I envy the fact that you only moved 7 minutes from your old house. The move from Southern California to Oregon is one I have wanted to make for years and years, but now that it is here, I somewhat dread that drive up there with my critters by myself. I was going to have my son fly from Idaho to help me make the transition to Oregon, but I'm considering just doing it myself. It will take me longer because I can't sit behind the wheel as long as he can, but it can be done. I considered just flying up and having my car delivered, or even just selling it and buying a new one when I get to Oregon, but having 3 cats and a small dog make either option, flying or driving, a daunting task.

We upsized. I found a yard I loved and then the house came second. We are both still healthy and while I would have loved a rancher, that just wasn't in the cards. We also gave ourselves 6 weeks from buying to selling our old house, so there were many, many trips taken. We also had 4 very able-bodied adult kids who spent their weekends with us helping us pack, move and unpack. I was very, very lucky with that. Thankfully they love the yard too and come over most weekends and have invested in many yard games to help enjoy the back yard. One is getting married in our back yard in next month and the other got married in April and then we all came back here to relax outside. The yard work is a lot.

Sorry about your plans, sounds like it will be a good time once you get to do it.
After the past 2 weekends, well 5 day weekends, of rain and snow this May long weekend is actually nice when it often snows. It was 17C/63F here yesterday, so beautiful!! Today is shaping up to be the same. I planted my pots and covered them the last couple nights.

950nancy, I envy you having 4 sons! I always wanted 4 children of any sex and I ended up with just one boy. I discovered my ex was cheating during the latter part of my pregnancy so, for me, there was no repairing the marriage. I was engaged to a man with 3 sons and 3 grandchildren that I adored. I could have easily kept the kids when I ended the engagement with him. His boys were always so good to me. I admit I miss them a lot. And we used to take the grandchildren out quite often, so I was very happy doing that. My son and his fiance don't want children so if I am to get any grandchildren in my life, I'm going to have to find another man that has them. I would love to see pictures of the yard that seduced you into moving that 7 miles away if you are comfortable sharing any parts of it. I love yard work myself. While I want a small house, I want a decent-sized yard. I plan to plant many fruit trees and put in a large vegetable garden as well as a flower garden if there is any room left over.

The other two are getting married in out back yard next month. I'll take some good spring pictures once we dry up a little. We live on a mountainside next to NORAD. Tons of deer and turkey venture through our yard almost daily. We also have bears, bobcats, coyotes and mountain lions. This picture was taken earlier this year. The deer are pretty dang friendly when it isn't mating season. flic.kr/p/2mQvbrZ I'll have to get some new pictures of all of the greenery.

We were in Charleston, SC for a wedding and the weather was lovely Saturday! Nice and breezy and sunny on the harbor where they got married.
We were flying back home today so we were visiting with family. Got a message from SW letting us know our flight was cancelled until TUESDAY so we called the rental car company and started the 10 hour drive home.
At home it has been unbearably hot. My son’s girlfriend is dog sitting and called to let us know the A/C isn’t working! Luckily the weather temp is dropping because of the thunderstorms.
