The 4 part documentary on Hulu is available today. Is anyone going to watch? I lived in Poteau and was still too young as a Brownie to go to camp, but I vividly remember this in the news and how suddenly parents were helicopter parents over us that summer. Keeper of the Ashes

That was the summer I went to Girl Scout Camp for the first time. I was an adult before I heard about it. I was such an anxious child my parents must have gone out of their way to hide it from me. I was far away from Oklahoma (Kentucky) but it would have freaked my out. My camp experience was a whole 'nother story!

I saw ads about a week ago with Kristin Chenoweth talking about this! I am definitely going to watch.

I'm definitely going to watch. Garvin Issacs, the attorney who represented Gene LeRoy Hart is an acquaintance, so I'm anxious to hear what he has to say. I've always heard he was adamant that Hart was innocent.
I was in high school when the murders happened, and like everyone in Oklahoma, I followed the case pretty closely. I've always thought Hart was guilty. It will be interesting to take a fresh look at the case. Our lake house is in Mayes County where the murders took place.

I think of it every time I drive by Poteau. Horrific crime.

I remember hearing about this tragic event. GS volunteers often complain about the rules and regulations.. the focus on safety.. but most of the rules have come due to incidents.. they try to learn from experience.
fortunately, tragedy out in the woods is exceedingly rare...

Don't recall hearing of this before. I attended GS sleepaway camp for 5 summers - the best times ever. I was an adult when this happened, but 24 hour news was not a thing at that time. I was also a GS leader in the 90's for 8 years and never heard about it.

I am going to watch, although I cannot stand Kristin Chenoweth. It's the 45th anniversary of the murders, and GS 110th anniversary, so I know some higher ups aren't excited that this is in the spotlight, as numbers are down.

Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Not someone I would ever consider as a narrator.

It's so weird this popped up on 2Peas. I recently did a personal essay on this story, comparing my experience of GS camp with that of the murdered girls. I was in camp about ten years earlier in Arkansas about an hour away from the Oklahoma campsite. I remember following the case in the morning paper every day and it colored my experience as I prepared to go away to college.

We (my family) hopped back and forth from OK to AR while I grew up. I can't remember where the AR camp was that I finally went to. It was a valley type setting and gorgeous. I've watched 3 of the 4 so far and may finish tonight. So weird to see familiar areas but I'm also reminded how beautiful that area of the state is. I remember playing in caves, pretending we were gangsters, finding arrowheads and fossils. And then I think of the terror they must have felt.

I like her as an actor, but having now watched the series, have no idea why anyone thought it was a good idea to have her involved on camera. It really detracted from the actual story.

I've only watched the first episode, but I actually like how she is part of this. Unfortunatly many of us have these experiences, these near-misses in life, and connections to things that we take with us for the rest of our lives. I am loosely connected to a VERY well-known murder victim in my area. It happened when I was 16, and she was 17. It has stuck with me and my local community for decades, and because it has been unsolved for over 25 years, it is still painful for us and we still carry this with us. ( There has been a recent DNA-development and we will see a trial later this year). But I like seeing Kristin Chenoweth's connection to this, because I think a lot of us can relate to being close to a tragedy and have that impact us for years and years. I certainly relate to her position. And so far she has not overshadowed the storytelling in the series in my opinion. But I'm only one episode in.

I just finished this today. 1. how come no one interviewed Michelle's family? Did they decline to be interviewed? It was only Lori's parents and Denise's mother. 2. I think Hart did it. I wish the 4 episodes had focused on more of the actual evidence collected, that really didn't get explained/explored until e4. 3. I could have TOTALLY done without Chenowith's song at the end. As a matter of fact, I think it was a total attention grab for her - she didn't know the girls (I thought before she might have) - she said she knew of Michelle bc her mother was her brother's teacher. Only maybe waved to her at school. And ya, she was sick and supposed to be at that camp, but that was about it. I am sure it was a near miss that haunts her, but I thought she was more active in bringing attention to the case to insist on current testing or something - again that wasn't her at all, but a friend of Lori's.
