What’s the funniest or most random thing your adult children have had to call you about?
I don’t have an adult child yet. My DS will be 18 in December, but I’m starting to realize how close he is to moving out on his own! The other day he needed to take some ibuprofen and could not figure out how to get the bottle open! I had to show him how to line up the arrows on the sides!

I can’t think of anything particularly funny but I’m sure there have been some! but dd1 will often text me while grocery shopping to ask about certain cuts of meats or recipes, etc. Dd3 FaceTimed me while shopping for pans to help her select some. Oh! Dd3 did call me one time because she was so freaked out by the sounds her washing machine was making! Lol she grew up with a front loader in our house and she was using one with an agitator in her new apartment and I had to explain how to open the lid (yes, it would be fine- no nothing bad would happen when you opened it lol) and rearrange some of the clothes in there to balance it and next time not to fill it so full. she was impressed with my knowledge on that one. 😂

I thought it was hysterical that 2/3 of my children moved out and within a week called to apologize for eating a whole box of cereal at a time and wasting so much food. They were horrified at how much cereal costs.

I often get calls for advice about work situations. Maybe I gave the impression that work was great and I knew all?
But last week DD #1 called and asked if I had an extra weekly pill container. Uh no, I refered her to her grandmother! Who had one by the way.

Some recent ones I've had:
"I lost my car keys; what do I do?" "How do I pay someone who doesn't have Venmo/Zelle/etc.?" "What is this red spot on my cat's neck?"
Oh and any time she has to address an envelope or write a check, she sends me a photo so I can check that she's done it correctly because she has to do it so rarely.

We’ve had the how do you address the envelope one.
Questions about how to pre-treat various stains.

I don’t have kids, so I’ll borrow some I’ve heard. A coworker’s daughter once called, upset because the button had fallen off her coat. What was mom supposed to do from 3 hours away? We all had a chuckle over that one. My brother once, as a young adult, was listening to Mom and I tell him a recipe. We stated it had a cup of water. He asked, “What size cup?”

This is a good one. My son went to mail something and I had to catch him to put a stamp on it. He was just going to put it in outgoing mail. It was important so I’m glad I caught him.
We really needs thread of stupid things kids need to know. I really thought he already knew this.

mostly about recipes - we share a Paprika account...and sometimes about stuff at the grocery store (was it light or regular sour cream?) but also about filling out health history for the doctor and how to make a new patient appt
But I had to laugh a little the other day when I shared a recipe with my sister and she emailed me to ask me to translate it in American ingredients and measurements - I'm so used to switching back and forth between American and British recipes that it didn't occur to me she wouldn't be

My adult son calls me about the most random, weird stuff. LOL I kind of love it though. I can't think of anything specific at the moment.
The weirdest call I ever got from one of my adult children was from my daughter. She had just graduated from college and was living back at home. She called me one Sunday afternoon to tell me her car was on fire. That's not the funny part--the funny part is that she knew I was in MAINE visiting my friend. We live in Missouri. LOL I was at a play and had my phone off. By the time I got the message, it was two hours later. I called her back, and she said, "Oh, when you didn't answer, I called dad." I asked her what she thought I would be able to do from Maine. She said, "I don't know, you were just the first person I thought to call." LMAO

when DS first left home and was at his first duty station (Hawaii) he called because he lost his phone. Luckily we had Find My iPhone and were able to direct him the store where he left it on a shelf the night before. He was there when they opened (with a massive hangover, probably why he misplaced it in the first place) and found it on the shelf.

"Is corn oil the same as corn syrup?" asked after making a pecan pie that didn't turn out well.

I mostly only get medical questions, though one time I had to talk DD through writing a check (we had done it before, but it had been some years and she forgot).
And I had to tell DS to call Progressive to get insurance and what he'd need, and what to do after he hit a deer, and how to manage insurance for Dr visits and the pharmacy.
But they're pretty self-reliant.

"What county do I live in now?" My youngest DD filled out her marriage license app and was checking the county, which is not the same as her town, like it was growing up. She just moved in February, and we each live very close to the county line. And we also have a street address in one county, with a mailbox and one zip code, but use a PO box in the next county/town over (but very close to use) with a diff zip code. She has always been confused, LOL. Homeschooling and not being in a county school district did not help.

mostly only get medical questions, That made me laugh. The hazard of being a nurse, huh? One of my coworkers is a nurse, and she says her kids hate it because she has such a high tolerance for blood and gore and sickness, that they often tease her that the only time she will be concerned about them is if they are actually dead. LOL

DS called after buying stamps for his wedding save-the-date cards. "Why are stamps so expensive??? I had no idea! Do they ever go on sale?"

Not my adult children, but my brother. He will call me and ask if I know where Mom is. Dude, I don't know! I live 900 miles away. You live like 5 miles from her. Why would I know!?!?

Recently my dd asked "which kind of coffee do I want?" accompanied by a photo of the various types at Costco. lol. What she meant was "which is the one you buy because that's what I want"... But the way she typed it sounded funny. I get random cooking questions from both kids. I especially love getting them from ds because that means he's cooking dinner for his partner since she's been working all day, and he's home. After cooking for him for years I'm happy to see him paying it forward. lol Dd texted me earlier to ask me "is there a current need for Haitian citizens to seek asylum in the US?" I have no idea what that was about because she hasn't replied yet to me asking why she wanted to know. lol

I have a couple from when ds was in college:
1. Him: Mom, when I come home I need twist ties to take back. Can you get me some? Me: loooong pause- Um, Buddy, what have you been doing with the twist ties from your bread products? Him: loooooong pause- OMG. 🤦🏼♀️
2. He would often call me from the grocery store by school and ask me where to find things. While the store was being remodeled. And I had been there once.

I often can't even find things in my own grocery store because they move stuff around so much.

I’d like to think I’m pretty self sufficient and can figure things out on my own, but if I call my mom it’s usually for a family recipe or a question about cooking. I craved home cooking when I was out of state and usually making something that reminded me of her helped, and I’m sure she enjoyed the chat on the phone.
When I was in college my roommate had to ask me for help changing a light bulb. She had never done it before and was scared she was going to electrocute herself.

I got a tongue-in-cheek phone call from DD after she moved from the dorms to an apartment in college. She said, "Did you know that food in the cupboards and refrigerator doesn't just magically appear here when they run out? It's so weird! Not at all like home!" I think this was a thank you...I sure took it as one!

DD1 text me the first year she was at University to ask me what my Mum's full name was as she wanted to send her a birthday card. She knew that it wasn't the same as hers obviously, but she had no idea what her Nanna's was. It didn't occur to her it would have been the same as my maiden name. She then text a couple of minutes later for the address

I am glad my kids middle school taught my kids how to mail a letter. I don’t remember being taught that myself but obviously today’s kids do need this particular lesson!

My son call my DH the most for home repair advice. The girls used to call for stain removal advice. They have all been on their own for a number of years, so there are a lot less calls.

My nephew called my sister to ask where she thought he ought to take his car (which garage) because there was something wrong with the steering. Then it seemed to sort itself out - turned out it had been windy 🤭😀

I am glad my kids middle school taught my kids how to mail a letter. I don’t remember being taught that myself but obviously today’s kids do need this particular lesson! When Ds was in 3rd grade they were learning to address envelopes and had decided it was the last year they were going to do that. 😲 While Ds was at that school, I made it my personal mission to make sure kids knew how to address an envelope. The librarian was in cahoots with me! So, any kid that went to Madroña Elementary between 2006 and 2012 knows how to address an envelope! My ds21 called me from Hawaii last week because he cut a chunk out of his foot on some lava rocks and wanted to know what bandaids to buy, and how to clean it. After supplies were purchased, I got another call about just how to clean it, AND how to put on a bandaid! What the heck!? In his defense, he is incredibly agile with a fabulous sense of balance. He had one fall as a 3 year old that needed to be bandaged, but was more than a bandaid would take care of and never fell again! I still have Thomas the Tank Engine bandaids, that only I have used, from when he was a toddler. He is an avid hiker and mountain biker. When he got home last night, he admitted to wasting 7 bandaids because they kept sticking to themselves before he could get them on. 😁
