DD/SIL just purchased their first home so we've gotten lots of phone calls regarding home remodeling/repair. Most of the calls are to DH about home remodeling projects (he is a very talented carpenter). They start out "Dad, do you think you could...." We've spent several days at their home doing projects. My SIL is a wonderful guy but doesn't know which end of the screwdriver to hammer a nail so he is happy to be his FIL's assistant, and I'm happy to keep our 2 year old grandson happy while DD paints/decorates.

2. He would often call me from the grocery store by school and ask me where to find things. While the store was being remodeled. And I had been there once. DD would call me from the grocery store when she was in college and ask where to find stuff...please note I've never been in her grocery store but I could usually tell her where to look

"Is corn oil the same as corn syrup?" asked after making a pecan pie that didn't turn out well. Omg you win!

I sent this video to my girls when it first came out - we all thought it was spot on. I mostly get food, laundry and "should I throw this out" questions.

I remember another time when DS was stationed with the Coast Guard in Alaska. He used to call DH (we are in California) to ask how to fix his truck. DH would actually walk him through it.

They have called (texted) often for recipes. My oldest had no idea how to address an envelope. I highly doubt they would know how to write a check.

DD couldn't get her gas cap off. But in her defense, DH had just replaced it for her and told us it was a little tricky to get off. A week before her call I borrowed her car and wanted to fill her tank and I could not get that damn thing off. I broke a nail, rage quit, and drove home on empty so her reaction was way better than mine. DH replaced it again.

Recently my dd asked "which kind of coffee do I want?" accompanied by a photo of the various types at Costco. lol. What she meant was "which is the one you buy because that's what I want"... But the way she typed it sounded funny. I get random cooking questions from both kids. I especially love getting them from ds because that means he's cooking dinner for his partner since she's been working all day, and he's home. After cooking for him for years I'm happy to see him paying it forward. lol Dd texted me earlier to ask me "is there a current need for Haitian citizens to seek asylum in the US?" I have no idea what that was about because she hasn't replied yet to me asking why she wanted to know. lolThere’s members of the Haiti Special Olympic team missing. There’s a big competition in Orlando and they left their keys and everything behind. Only one of them is an athlete and the other five I believe are coaches possibly

This was before the remodel and the store was way too small for a university town. I gave him all the suggestions, made him look twice and he finally had to ask someone. It was in the produce department.

GREAT idea for a thread! I have laughed my butt off at the variety of responses.
I have to say though, the corn oil vs. corn syrup question wins. I have been trying to picture what that pie ended up looking like since I read it! 😂

Not a child calling, but DH called me when I was on a business trip. I was in Atlanta, Ga. He was in Dallas, Texas. Question: Should I send DS to school with a coat? My response was, "Go outside, if it is cold, send him with a coat. If it is warm, do not send a coat." Mentally I was pretty annoyed with the question. I wanted to say, "WTH kind of question is this?"
GAH!

I (42) called my mom (71) last fall when a baby opossum climbed in my driver vent, down into my basement, and was deceased in said dryer vent. I was fully anticipating a mouse… not an opossum… nope couldn’t do it! Mom to the rescue while I was gagging upstairs🤣

I just got one today from my son who wanted to know what to do to get the puppy to stop biting him. To be fair, he sees me as experienced in the care of dogs, but it just struck me as funny. I told him that sometimes yelping and walking away helps, but he could also put on some gloves and wrestle with her hard and to quit being a sissy. They've only had her a few days and she's been kenneled all day, so the pup has some energy.

I talked my oldest ds through his first Thanksgiving dinner away from home. He made turkey and stuffing and potatoes and gravy and all the trimmings for his fiance who was at work. I have received several calls from my second son in the first few years after he went to live on his own, most to do with credit cards being maxed out (which I could help him with by faxing a hotel permission to use MY credit card for his stay), being out of gas in the middle of nowhere (which I couldn't help him with, but he got hold of a friend to bring him a jerry can), having forgot his keys at home (I drove half way to Edmonton to deliver them to him). My third son called late one night b/c he and his girlfriend were arguing about how to make chocolate chip cookies. I had to give him the recipe over the phone and they had a bake off. My dd and I are in at least one conversation each day. She runs alot of things by me--work issues, parenting, cooking. She has a higher university degree than I do, is a better parent, and an accomplished cook. But she runs stuff by me anyway. It feels good to be connected. ETA. The mention of finding things by Linda and others reminded me of when my dd—who had just recently moved to the city—started a conversation with “Where am I?” She was trying to find a gym where her team handball practice was held. I got her to drive to an intersection and read me the street signs. I then told her that the gym would be East of there. “Which way is east?” She asked. I was 250 km away. (East, BTW).

How do I get this kid to eat toast? He loves it at your house!
Me—What butter are you using?
Margarine.
Me—Land O Lakes butter and he will gobble it up.
By the way, what is the recipe for your meatloaf?

Tonight: "Mom. I know i'm great at a lot of things, but guess what my new specialty is?" 'I have no idea. Say more.' "Flan! My roomie said it's better than hers"
He has a coworker that is in her late 60s and widowed. He always called her his 'work Abuelita', they kind of looked out for each other. She needed to rent her basement for extra income but was worried about sharing the house with a stranger so he got out of his lease early and rented from her instead. Her grandkids and kids are in Mexico so he's makes sure to go upstairs to check on her and usually ends up talking for a few hours or fixing something for her. Now, she's teaching him to cook some family recipes because he'll "never find a good partner if he can't make a good flan." Who knew?
Same kid, a few months ago- chatting while he's closing things out at work (a restaurant) someone dropped what sounded like a whole tray of glasses as he was counting one of the drawers. He sighs and says "Freaking Gravity." I laughed so hard.

The first call that I got from my youngest son after he move out was how to make mashed potatoes. I don’t have kids but this reminded me of my mom’s good friend. Her daughter decided one year that she was going to make Thanksgiving dinner for her whole family and she called her mom (my mom’s friend) and asked her if you mash the potatoes before or after you cook them.
