I'll start by saying I don't shop at the cheapest grocery store. I like Hy-Vee, which is a pretty nice store. I buy a lot at Costco, so I save money there.
I was looking at my receipt when I got home. I paid $5.57 for Hellmann's mayonnaise.
ETA - I added FLUFF to the title. I am aware how lucky I am to be able to buy the mayo without looking at the price. I feel for everyone with families that are truly struggling with the cost of feeding their family.

I paid $4.99 for the squeeze bottle of Hellman’s on Sunday. I was shocked! My kids and granddaughter are going camping this weekend though and it’s worth every penny to be alone for 48 hours!!
Solid white tuna in water was 2 for $4.00. I remember, yes I’m old, when it was 2 for $1.00 on sale!

I bought a 10 pound bag of frozen chicken breasts and it was $32 just a couple days ago. I looked back through my purchases online and that same bag of chicken was $20 six months ago. Food costs are killing me.

Funny you mention this! I shop at a commissary and was looking at my receipt from last Friday and noticed that my squeeze bottle of Hellman’s was over $5. My off base grocery of choice is also Hy-Vee.

I mostly shop at the American commissary here for staples. I bought Hellman’s mayonnaise last week and it was over $8 for a 32 oz jar. I went back and looked at the shelf after the cashier cashed me out. I thought for sure that it rang up incorrectly. Our prices are supposed to be the same as they are in the US and commissary prices are generally about a 25% savings over local stores, but I hadn’t heard anyone mention that it was expensive until today. Really, after this jar is gone, I think I’ll just make my own. It’s easy enough and pennies compared to Hellman’s.
I was just at Carrefour (big French grocery chain) and I forgot to see what it was there. I bought a mango curry fry sauce there last week and it was only 2€ for probably about 10 oz. It was a Heinz brand, so not a store brand item.
Ground beef is also really expensive at the commissary. It’s $5.50 a lb. We don’t like the taste of Belgian beef, so we only buy that at the commissary.

My kids love the Stoneyfield blueberry yogurt pouches. Well they used to. I was going to grab a box at Giant the other day, but they were 7.69 for 4 yogurt pouches. When they were 5.39 I I used to cringe.
So they will have to have the Target brand which are 3.89 for 4.

A bag of cashews (I can’t remember the size) that used to be $8.99 was $16.99! I’m very grateful to be able to afford them since we make healthy snacks with them, but man it would be cheaper to just buy cheap granola bars at this point. This is why people can’t eat healthy food and buy crap instead!

I too have noticed the price of Mayo being high. I only buy certain things when they are on sale and mayo is one of them...luckily, Publix often has Hellmans on sale BOGO and at Publix, when they have BOGO, you can get just one for 1/2 price (which is what I do).
There are a lot of things I use to buy that I am going without. Not because I can't afford it, but rather I just refuse to pay that much for certain things that I don't HAVE to have.

Eggs. Eggs. Holy Hell Eggs.
I get my eggs and dairy at Aldi because it's so much less expensive than Kroger or Walmart.
Late 2020 they were 45 cents a dozen and around Easter 2021 they were up to 60 cents. That's not bad and I used to get 4 or 5 dozen at a time which would last 2 to 3 weeks depending on what I was baking or if we had breakfast for dinner.
All year I have been watching the price inch up slowly, until a few weeks ago I about dropped my teeth when I saw the sign for $1.65.
I groused, but bought a few dozen anyway because my Dad likes eggs for breakfast and I fix him two a few times a week.
Last week I was shopping at Aldi with DS and opened the door to get eggs and hadn't seen the sign so I asked DS how much they were and when he said $2.28 a dozen I about dropped them.
I jokingly sent a text to the family group chat asking if anyone knew if we were allowed to keep chickens in the city limits. I was only half joking.
BTW, DD actually researched it and while we can have chickens where we live it would not be cost effective, LOL.

I always have a small jar of mayo on hand for a few recipes and replaced it recently. The 15 oz jar (Hellman's) was $4.10. I remember thinking that seemed high but wasn't sure since I only buy a small jar once or twice a year. My sticker shock item has been the bunches of organic carrots - the ones with the tops still on. I have always loved fresh, raw carrots as a snack and these have always been a splurge for me. Pre-pandemic they were usually $1,29-1.39/bunch. During the Winter they went up to $1.69/bunch. In the last month the price jumped overnight to $2.98/bunch! I know I'm fortunate enough to be able to still buy them, but dang that purchase hurts!

OMG I can't even list a single thing that shocked me...EVERYTHING did.
My DD's hs friends hang out at our house and I need to keep food/snacks on hand. Girls eat A LOT, lol. I used to mindlessly put anything into my cart, whatever looked good. Now I'm forced to actually pay attention and its sickening.
Yesterday I winded up at Aldi. They have a lot of good stuff for cheap. The girls didn't care, even though I used to be a snob about Aldi, IDC so much about that anymore.

Seltzer water!!
I like the 12 can Polar or Aha or Spindrift (I think that's 8 cans) or the like...
I used to be able to get them for about $2.50 for one, sometimes 3 for $ or even 5 for $10 on the Polar (it's local.)
Now?? It's at least 2 for $8 and when it's not on sale, it's still pretty close to that for Polar or close to 2 for $10 for the others.

Everything? LOL I went to Safeway with DH and decided I was too poor to shop there anymore. The sale priced items were what the regular price was 6 months ago.
I prefer to shop at Wegmans. They don't run big sales, but their staple items are at an everyday stable price. If they need to raise the price, they start announcing it ahead of time along with information as to why.
If this was 30 years ago when DH and I were a poor Army enlisted couple, we'd be sunk. We scraped by as it was. His grandma use to say that we'd look back on it as the good old days. 30 years later, all we can say is we are grateful we aren't stressed over money 100% of the time.

At Easter i got two of the 36 packs and it was over $16! I don’t know what the price is now. Butter has also doubled.

Our grocery store routinely had Polar on sale 4/$10 and occasionally it was $2/12pk. For a while in 2020 and last year it was about $4 per 12 pack when "on sale". Its back to an occasional sale price of 4/$10 again. I was visiting DS in Portland (ME) a few weeks ago and found it for that same price in Osco. Here, aside from chicken and egg prices, I have also noticed condiment prices have gone up a lot. These are things I would stock up on when they were loss leaders at the grocery stores. I could usually find Hellmans mayo on sale for $3 and I bought a couple for the pantry when I saw them drop to $4. They're priced at $5-6 here. Simply Heinz ketchup doubled in price here too.

The very first eye-opener I had back mid-pandemic was for foil. It was over $8.00 for the small box that I usually buy. I did buy it but I've mostly been using silicone baking sheets which I can reuse. My dh doesn't like them but he uses foil much less often than I do so I'm still saving some. Eggs! omg. And chicken. If I can even find what I prefer, which is boneless skinless thighs.

Frozen entrees like Lean Cuisine, Marie Callendar's, etc.
They used to go on sale here and there, and lately the only ones that seem to go on sale are the Smart Ones brand (which are my least favorite). Lean Cuisine chicken fettucine used to be $1.99 consistently. Now the normal price is $2.99 and they have not been on sale for at least 6 months.
Also, beef prices here are pretty high. OP said 1lb is $5.50 at the commissary-that's pretty normal here. I buy lots when it goes on sale for $3 a lb.

Eggs were my first "seriously?" when I saw my usual 18-pack at $4.49 at HyVee. I was even more shocked when I was at Sam's not long after that when their set of 2 18-pack eggs were over $10 (while the HV eggs were still at $4.49!)
Yogurt has been painful. I even thought about buying a large 32oz container instead of the small cups, but there was no price difference per ounce.

All of the above. My husband loves Polar and on sale it’s $4, Mayo. I bought some a few months ago and thought it’s doubled in price we don’t use much but still. Foil I just looked snd yikes. Chicken snd eggs way up. Butter is $$. We are thankful we can still buy what we need but it still stings. I’m definitely looking for sales and stocking up when I can.
Chips. We rarely buy but they are insane and I swear the party bags looks a lot smaller.

We have so many eggs right now, we are giving them away. Since we live in a rural area, where a lot of people have chickens, no one really wants to buy them. I'm grateful though that I am able to walk by the egg section of the grocery store without ever having to stop and worry about the price. Sticker shock for me was a bottle of Heinz Chili Sauce. I use it in my spaghetti sauce. It used to be a little over $4.00. Now it's over $7.00. When I stop to calculate how much a batch of spaghetti sauce costs, with the hamburger, the vegetables, the tomato & chili sauces, it's downright crazy expensive. Everything is expensive now.

I was a little shocked on that. milk has been creeping up slowly, even at Aldi, where I find it the cheapest right now. We buy gallons of skim / fat free, and a gallon used to be well under $3. Then it went to $3.05, then $3.09... a couple weeks ago I think I paid $3.16 for a gallon, and I'm guessing it's even more expensive now. I bought some powdered milk a while ago; I may actually start using that when I need milk for cooking. The cost of ground beef is the sticker-shock item, for me. I used to always buy 93% lean, and could find it for around $3/lb on sale. I think last time I looked at it, it was at least $5/lb. So it's back to 80% or 75% lean and pouring off the excess fat when it's cooked.
