Hi travel peas!
I have another travel question, about documents for minor children. Do I need birth certificates in addition to the passport? Can I take a copy or do I have to have the original? My Google search wasn't totally clear on that.

passports rule.. thats the only thing you need. unless you are flying with kids without their other parent.. then you should have a notarized permission statement --check on that.

We shouldn't have a problem then--the whole family is traveling together. Thanks!

We never had an issue as long as we had a passport. Sometimes the agents will ask your kid a question about who they are traveling with that day. Tell your kid to honestly answer their questions. My kid got asked at five if we were his parents. He waited a long time to answer that question and then kind of smirked. He was asked this question probably half the time we traveled.

No, you do not need birth certificates to travel with children.

Since you needed a birth certificate in order to get the passport in the first place, it's just assumed that it's in there.

Our kids were asked the same thing every time we went from Minnesota into Canada. It’s a pretty typical question, but it can be startling when it’s not expected.

He was such a turd. His sense of humor at five was really quite advanced and he played it up for all it was worth. He also got his arm stuck in the airport chairs as we were boarding. We barely scooted in at the end of the line to board. Thankfully my other son was perfect.

Where are you headed? Some countries e.g. South Africa do require a long form birth certificate indicating your children are traveling with their parents. It's meant to help clamp down on human trafficking. But that's more of an exception than the norm.
