I like them for adults who aren't drinking too much. What I dont like is a firepit where kids are running around close to it and I see that far too often.

We have a little portable fire pit. My husband LOVES it and uses it often in the summer. I will go out occasionally, but we don't have any seating, and I can't stand for that long. Plus the smoke always follows me. Someday we will redo the yard and probably have a built-in pit with seating.

Strongly dislike. I know it's probably nothing in the scheme of things but the less we can all burn stuff maybe the slower the planet will overheat. I even resent burning cigarettes!

I love fire pits! Just bought a new one for DH for his b'day and we're looking forward to using it if it ever cools off here. Fall is definitely the best time to enjoy fires around here.

I am terrified of fire, so no fire pits for us. They are very popular in our area as it gets cold in the fall and kids love them for parties. I was always nervous when my kids went to a friends with a group of kids and a fire pit. I do love the smell when neighbors have their fire pit going.
We also don't have a fireplace in our house.

We live in California under one of the worst droughts so no, I can’t imagine having one now.

We had one and I thought it was a pain in the neck to get a fire going. If I had it to do again (we moved and can't have one where we live) I would only do a gas fire pit.
I also hate mosquitoes, so now I have a screened porch.

I’m kind of meh about it. Don’t love it, don’t hate it. We always had a fire circle down by the water at the lake cabin but when we regraded the yard it got buried and we didn’t move more stones over to make a new one. I’m that unlucky person that the smoke always seems to gravitate toward no matter where I sit. DH and I have talked about building an outdoor fireplace instead but there isn’t an ideal spot to put one on our lot, plus it would be expensive and we still have a few other unfinished projects to take care of before taking something like that on so we haven’t made any moves to do it. Our neighbors still have one so we throw all of our sticks and stuff in theirs to burn up.

I love fire, but hate smoke. I love being outside, but hate mosquitoes. Same. I enjoy sitting around the fire, but I HATE the smell of smoke in my hair and clothes. If I've just washed my hair that day, I will wear a beanie/hat. And I have my 'fire' clothes that I put on so my normal clothes don't stink. Mosquitoes aren't an issue, because we only use our fire in winter. It's way too hot to sit in front of a fire in summer when the mozzies and bugs are out! We bought our fire pit and outdoor lounge setting right before COVID started. It was so good to be able to use it through those long months of lockdown. As long as it isn't raining, DSO will get the fire going every Friday night, and we will sit out there on the weekend mornings as well.

We have both but due to where we live we can only use the wood one certain times of the year. During fire season we have to use the gas. It’s just not the same. I love the wood and smoke!

I like our propane fire table. Not a fan of smoke in my face. The propane is great for chilly evenings on the patio. No sparks and nothing actually burning, so not risking the neighborhood.

We have one. We use it maybe 6 times a year when we have people over late at night or when our grandson visits and we roast marshmallows. We use the windfall from our tree for starter wood and firewood that is dead trees from my parent's cabin. We never buy our own fuel.
We defintely use it less since air quality in the Bay Area has gone downhill.

Do you have one? If so, what kind? How often do you use it?
Comments /musings?
That sums it up for me. I love the idea of a fire pit. But it's always so smokey and there's so many mosquitos and other bugs. It's also wicked hot here throughout most of the months you'd want to use the fire pit which makes sitting by the fire not feel so appealing.

You need a solo stove. We love it! It's a firepit but NOTHING smells like smoke after using it. I don't know how the technology works but it DOES. They go on sale pretty often so I definitely would not pay full price.

Love the concept, don't love the reality. We have one that we can move around-- the driveway, the back yard, etc. It's wood-burning. While I love the smell, I hate the smoke, and hate the fact that I have to shower and wash my hair immediately upon coming inside (and I don't always want to do those things). It's fun to sit around, but I think if we had a gas firepit, we'd probably use it more often. As it is, it's a project to sit out by the firepit.

We have a big one, and we love it. We use it a LOT. Often have friends or family over to sit around the fire.

I love the smell of a wood burning fire. That smell and watching the flames dance is reward enough to deal with the resulting smoke.
We have a fire pit outside mostly used for parties. We rarely use it for just us.
The wood burning fireplace inside gets used on most winter weekends because we just enjoy the experience of it.

I'm not a huge campfire fan - hate the smoke.
But we do have a fire bowl! For years we fussed with a little one from Canadian Tire - it was fibreglass and winter was not kind to it. It started losing chunks and pieces and was super ugly.
We ended up with a beautiful concrete one from Dekko Concrete. It was NOT cheap - had we spent the $$ when we first saw them we'd have saved a good few hundred. But we kept putting it off lol.
But it is hooked up to our natural gas, so no propane tanks to worry about.
DH loves it!

I hate them. My next door neighbor has one right by my fence and eveytime they lit it I had to run through my house shutting windows to keep the smoke out. Thankfully they moved this year and the new neighbors who moved in have never lit it! I'm with you. I hate them. Multiple neighbors at my old house had them. I often had to close up the house and run the A/C when it was nice out, due to the smoke. It didn't have to be right next door, either.

I posted about mine last year. Love it so much. The only drawback here is that it is often too windy to have a fire burning safely. It often doubles up as a very expensive table. haha!

We like them. Hate the bugs too.
When my mom was alive she was on oxygen due to copd. She lived in the city. Her neighbor had a fire all the time. The smoke would come in my parents windows so they always had to be shut. She couldn’t go out on her screened in porch either because of it.

I don't have a fire pit, although my kids say they want to build one. I don't love or hate the smoke, so long as the wood is nice & dry. I do hate mosquitos, though, so anytime I'm out in the evening I either light citronella candles/torches or spray my clothing/self with repellent.
