I just hit purchase on plane tickets and am spending one day in Iceland and four days in Copenhagen, so thank you everyone! (I really wavered between this and Switzerland, but decided the Switzerland trip would involve more moving around). I am also really determined to get to Edinburgh in the next few years.
If you have any travel tips for either city, please feel free to share them -- again, I like museums, long walks, pretty views, and yummy food. I'm particularly interested in "with 24 hours in Reykjavic where would you spend your precious time" and "is there anything I should go to outside of Copenhagen if I am there for four days," but I will take any other advice you may have. I am really excited!

I like all the same things you like and I spent 4 days in Copenhagen a few years ago - I will find my notebook with all my notes and tell you my recommendations- between the canals, the every day happy hour, the food, the architecture and laid back living it’s like a dream city. And everyone speaks perfect English!

"is there anything I should go to outside of Copenhagen if I am there for four days," We did a trip up to Helsingor from Copenhagen. We did have a car, so I'm not sure how do-able it is with public transport. There is an old castle/fort there, right at the entrance to Oresund Sound, which used to be a major customs station. It is also rumoured to be the inspiration for Shakespeare's play 'Hamlet'. It was a fun half-day for us, then we had lunch and took the ferry to Sweden and had plenty of time to drive to Gothenburg - our next destination - by dinner time. ETA: I just did a quick search - there are regular trains that take about 45 minutes and cost around €15 one way.

I really think you'd be remiss to go to Iceland and not get out of Reykjakvic to see the beautiful landscapes that make Iceland so famous. You can do a half-day Golden Circle Tour that will take you to 3 of the most iconic spots close to the city. I would spend half a day on that, and a few hours walking around town, focusing on the harbour/waterfront and Hallgrímskirkja church. You might even have time to squeeze in a dip at the Blue Lagoon on your way to or from the airport - to maximize your time, don't make a separate trip out of town for it.

Things I loved in Copenhagen:
Walking around Nyhavn Boating the canals (took tour out of Nyhavn) Broens Gadekokken - outdoor food market with wine and beer across from Nyhavn Climbing to the top of Church of My Savior - has an external staircase with fabulous views - this is a must do It’s near Christianshavn which is amazing to walk around - quaint streets and canals and cafes Mikkeller Beer garden and Reffen Street Food Walked around city hall and I think there is a castle there too and we went to the Museum of Copenhagen we hung out one evening in chairs along the canal by the modern library and the architecture center (I’m blanking which one) which was relaxing - and it had a good cafe we did a day trip on the train to the castle (already mentioned) - the town was quaint but I don’t consider it a “must do”
Things I wanted to do but didn’t: bike to Dragor - a quaint fishing village eat at The Standard take train to Bellevue beach breakfast at Torvehallern - bike through Christianshavn Thief Roof Foodbar - spectacular views i have tons of notes of food recommendations lol
