We played in my neighborhood. I played from like 7ish until maybe 10 or 11 with my older brother and his friends. We also played with one of his friend's dad.
I remember people saying that it was a demonic game.
I still have three of the old books.

Me, no, but DH and his friends were really into it. He still has all his books and a small stack of notebook paper with various character stats from back in the day. He doesn't feel the need to play anymore, but he does still like to read the books and campaigns. Of course, he still loves to play video games like Baldur's Gate.

I did in high school. Now two of my kids play.
It's so much more detailed and structured now than what I remember of it.

My DD and her fiancée play several times most weeks, and my DD is the Dungeon Master in at least one of the games. She keeps trying to get me involved but it really isn’t my thing at all! 😄

I played in high school, for just a year. I really liked that nerdy group of boys.

DH did when he was a kid. He tried to get me to play once, but it was just too complete drop in for one session and I never played again.
Both of our kids play. DS is quite a fan and is in 3 different groups. DD will sometimes play in one of DS’s groups, but she’s really too busy with school to be a regular. She tends to play one off sets with a group of school friends when they have a break.

Not really. But then, I don’t play video games either. Or watch fantasy films like LOTR, GOT, etc. I don’t order that genre from first reads, I guess I just don’t get it.
When I hear Dungeons & Dragons I remember that Tom Hanks movie. Which was actually good though.

No, it wasn't a big thing in our area, I don't think I ever really heard of it until I was out of high school. And just not something that would interest me either.

No - but my oldest (about to be 27) is obsessed! She plays online with a group of friends once a week and they get together in person to play once in a while as well. She's a bit of a dice collector - she has some sets she uses, and then has a bunch in jars looking all pretty. She's played master once in a while for a cousin's game as well.
Totally not my thing though!

I didn't, but I remember that my Grandmother gifted my brother a D&D set for Christmas one year in the 80's...and then it was taken back because it was evil.

I went to MIT in the early 80s and was the odd man out who didn't play. DH and his friends used to play a ton. They had so much fun.

I never did, but my DD plays now and occasionally DMs for her group--they rotate so everyone gets a chance to play.
Her group is her friends from school and when Covid hit they went to zoom games and have continued now that they have graduated and have moved to different places, although whenever any are in the same area they will play in person and will zoom in others.
DD has begged to teach me, but I am just overwhelmed by all of the different aspects.
I do know her favorite character quite well. Maggie Marigold, a redheaded halfling assassin.
I do, however enjoy watching Critical Role with her every Thursday. It is actually fun to watch these actors/voice actors play. DD thinks it's funny that it sucked me in and I'm now a Critter.

I didn't when I was a kid - the friends I knew who played didn't think to invite me a the time (including DH, lol). I've played in the last few years as an adult, though, with DH, friends, our kids, my BIL and niece.

I did not but DH did with college friends. ODS, 30, has a group of friends and two groups of games. He plays weekly with his core group and the other group is a bit more loose on their schedule. He is always designing a story or whatever it is called. Developing a character, etc.

We had an Intellivision when I was a kid - kind of like an off-brand Atari. And we had Dungeons and Dragons for our Intellivision, but it wasn't really like the regular D&D role-playing game. I remember you had to run around little underground caves picking up quivers of arrows, and then try to use them to kill the dragons when you found them. Regardless of the fact that it wasn't true D&D, my very devout mother was aghast that we had it and played it, because she and her social circle were very aware of the Satanic Panic going on at the time. I'm not sure who brought it into the house, whether it was my dad (who is also devout but a bit more level-headed) or if it was gifted from someone else; my sisters and I were young enough that it wasn't us.

Not me, but DH did as a teen. Then during the Covid lockdown, he and 3 friends started a weekly online game that’s still going on. 🙄 Whatever, it makes them happy. 🥰

Both dh and I played in high school, but not together. He played much more than I did. I played a few times. I would love to play more games, but I live w/the dud family. They're just not into board games. Big raspberry!

I didn’t, but my brother did. I clearly remember for a couple months some group kept putting flyers in neighborhood mail boxes about D&D being evil and satanic and my Mom being worried until she educated herself. That 1980’s Satanic Panic was real and crazy

I tried it with some family members years ago. I had 2 kids who were about 12 and 13 and they wanted to play so I tried it too. After about 3 weeks, I decided I'd rather have a life than play a game with a pretend life; Just wasn't for me (kids quit too.) But I know some people at work who still play and really enjoy it. So I wouldn't tell anyone not to - I didn't see anything at all satanic about it!

I played my senior year of high school and again in my early 20s. I also played other tabletop RPGs in my early 20s.
One of my favorite things to do at home is sit on the couch and stitch while watching Critical Role (people playing DND) on YT.

I never played until one of my kids asked for a starter set for Christmas one year. (Clearly I don't see a demonic aspect to it, or that would be a weird gift to give to celebrate Baby Jesus. ) We played it once as a family and it's ben sitting there untouched ever since. Go figure. Now, DH played as a teen, so I'm surprised he didn't rally the kids to give it another go, but so far that hasn't happened. For me it was not my kind of thing. I like a clear path and rules and objectives when I play a game, so every time it was my turn I had no idea what to do, LOL.

Someone gave me a booklet and a die one year but I didn't know the basics and couldn't figure out what you were supposed to do. I never pursued it, none of my friends played it. That was in grade school. Wasn't interested when I got older.
