Do you need separate accounts for these or will they operate independent of each other? Currently, have one in my bedroom and getting granddaughter one for her bedroom - but not sure about setting it up so she can play her own music etc?

Either works. I have 4 setup in my house on my account. They can all play the same music at the same time or on just one at a time. You can also “drop in” on each one kind of like an intercom. So many things they can do.

You can leave them on the same account, put each on a separate or connect them to multiple accounts and ask the device to switch accounts

I always use mine separately but they can be linked also. Mine mainly get used to turn on annoying light switches and to play music and tell me what the outside temp is before I go for a walk/run, and the kitchen one I often use as a timer and I use the bedroom one for my alarm clock. I have two Spots that they quit making, which is sad because they're so much cuter and aesthetically pleasing than the other devices.

You can also “drop in” on each one kind of like an intercom. You can also "drop in" to anyone who has an echo dot as long as it is set up ahead of time. Everyone once in a while I'll hear DS talking to me and I'm like WHAT?? We don't do it often but on occasion it's fun.
