We are going to Kansas City this weekend. After our drive we generally like to just check into our hotel and chill. It will be about supper time when we get there. I was thinking we could just get food delivered. Not sure if it would be best to just find a place that delivers or use a service like Doordash. If you are from the area what do you feel would be best? If you have used food delivery services, which do you prefer? We don't have those services where we live, so looking for some pea knowledge.
Thanks for any ideas and suggestions.

Where in the city are you staying?
No one can seem to ever find our house so the few times we’ve used door dash it was stone cold by the time it got to us. Depending on where you’re staying it might just be easier to get food to go before checking into your hotel.

The hotel will likely have a list of local restaurants that will deliver. That's what I would usually do!

Doordash has a feature that will show you what restaurants in the area will deliver and the fee. They used to also offer a free trial for 7 days or something. However, since Doordash takes a chunk of the restaurant's money in the process (on top of their own inflated prices), I'd just look to see what's in your area and go to their website.
If you post a general area you're staying in, I'll let you know if I have any recommendations. My Dad lives in KCMO, but he's over off of 435 / Stateline.

We are in the Rosedale area, close to the KU medical center. When we were there last time it seemed there was not too much really close to us, but it was easy to get to from the highway.

Yeah not the best area of town. I’m not that familiar with the area, unfortunately I’m quite familiar with KU med. I know there’s some fast food options over there. If you keep going on I-35 there’s lots to eat in mission. Some fantastic Mexican places off SW blvd.
I’d ask at the hotel if they have a list of places that deliver.

We are in the Rosedale area, close to the KU medical center. When we were there last time it seemed there was not too much really close to us, but it was easy to get to from the highway. I've actually only been over there once since living here and that was because they had their "Parade of Hearts" and some really cool ones were located around there. Definitely did not hang around. However, East of there is Westport. Broadway between 40-43rd has lots of restaurants and some do deliver. My favorite pizza place is over there, it's called " Fat Sully's" and you can order for delivery ahead of time. It does use a 3rd party delivery service. It's also part of a few other restaurants: Denver Biscuit Company & Atomic Cowboy. There's also a First Watch over at 1022 Westport Road. They're only open until 2pm though.

I don't know about the restaurants but yeah like the other peas have said, not the best area...
Could you just eat before checking in? You could stay close to the highway but go somewhere a little further out that is in a better area.

A lot of times we stop and pick food up before going to check in at the hotel. However, there are quite a few places around that will deliver to that area. Pizza Hut is not too far from there. I would call directly to the restaurant for delivery as the delivery services such as Doordash, Grub Hub, cost way more than direct delivery.

Uber Eats works well for us in that area. I haven't used Doordash. Nearby food suggestions, roughly north to south and west to east: Southwest Boulevard: Mexican: Taqueria Mexico #4 is ok, but I prefer Margarita's if I'm just eating, or Ponak's if I'm having food & margaritas - they're super strong & delicious! Venezuelan: Empanada Madness is a bit further down, but it's SO GOOD! It's a fairly small operation, though, and can sometimes be a little slow, so only go if you're not rushed for time. If they have tres leches cake, don't pass it up. 39th St. Cajun: Jazz is good, at least for midwestern Cajun. I love the Chicken ala Mer! BBQ: People seem to love Q39. I'm not wild about it because I'm really there for the sides over the meat, and IMHO, their sides aren't all that, but their sauce and meat are good. On Rainbow: Vietnamese: Vietnam Cafe - I don't care for this sort of food especially, but people who do LOVE this place and come from all over town to go here Pizza: Imo's - St. Louis style cracker-thin crust pizza w/ provel cheese Irish/Pub: Conroy's (Rainbow/Westwood location) - very good Irish food (recipes by an actual Irish chef, not just "greenwashed"), especially fish & chips, savory pies, and good pizzas as well If I was coming in after a long drive on a Friday night, I'd probably grab Conroy's, Taqueria Mexico, or Imo's because they're the easiest to get in & out of. Uber Eats works with the bolded (if I did it right) places. Imo's delivers.

Not sure what you mean about "not the best area", but Rosedale and the area near KU Med (I'd actually call those two neighboring areas) area are both fine - at least pretty much like the rest of KC - and even nice in spots. And there's a TON of restaurants around. I mean, the parking/traffic might suck as you get closer to KUMC, but otherwise, it's not something to avoid.

I like their wings... but if I want good BBQ, I tend to stick with Joe's. Simply because I prefer fries over meat. Hah! I'll have to check out the others you listed, thanks for all the details.

I 100% agree - Joes KILLS it (and actually is not too far from KUMC on 47th/county line) but I don't have the patience to wait in line or the planning skills to call ahead LOL!

We just did not see much for restaurants close by. I will look into some of the places shared. We just want a plan in place when we arrive. Thanks everyone.

Well it has been a few long years so maybe I am either thinking of the wrong area or it's gotten better since I have roamed around KC... apparently it isn't what I remembered.. lol

There are a couple options right across the street from KU Med, on Rainbow. Of course right now, my mind is blank, but there is a sandwich place, a bar and grill (like Chili's) but can't remember the name. For BBQ, yep, Joe's is the best..... it use to be called Oklahoma Joe's, but now it's Joe's KC. It is a must! It's not the BEST area, but as long as you are aware of your surroundings and practice good safety habits (keys out, scanning the area etc), you should be fine.

I will be with DH and DS, so not alone. The hotel was nice and access to the highway to get around was great so we decided to go back there. We will be picking up from Joe's before the hotel.

Like others have mentioned, it’s not the safest area, but sounds like you’ll be with others and are aware. Rosedale is in Kansas City, Kansas not Missouri, but close. 😜 If you have time, check out Scraps KC, on the Missouri side. It’s a crafty reuse thrift store if that interests you.

I'm glad I'm not going out of my mind. I swore up and down it wasn't the best area.. certainly not the worst... but in any case... have a great trip... If you are into scrapping/papers there is a store in Shawnee, KS that is adorable. Vintage in KC is the name.

I've been known to drive around with donations for them in the trunk of my car for months at a time. Also, I'm craving Joes and Ponak's now thanks to this thread. OP if they have the chips at Joes buy a couple bags. They partnered with Guy's potato chip company to put their fry seasoning on potato chips and the result is the bomb. I can still find them from time to time at a local grocer, but they're so high sodium I don't go looking very often. So good.

I've been known to drive around with donations for them in the trunk of my car for months at a time. I went on Sunday and forgot to take the two paper grocery bags of scrappy stuff and a bag full of used shot gun shells that are sitting in my craft room. Oooops! They repaved the parking lot so no more giant potholes. Yay!! I did forget to mention that they don’t have adequate air conditioning on the shopping side so dress for the weather and a handheld fan is nice. Just don’t forget your pants like a woman did when we were shopping there. Eeeek!!

I think they were in a green bag with a yellow "Guy's" on the front of the bag.. The green was kinda see through. Am I mixing this up with another chip? I usually know my chips! haha
