We don't. But, DH's aunt has a 55 year old son who lives with her. According to DH's mom (her sister) they spend $5,000.00/month on food delivery. No one cooks, just food delivery. For only two people!

I live in a pretty urban area with a good transportation system. A lot of people, specially young working people do not have cars. What they save on insurance/repairs etc can be used for the convenience of not cooking. Also, my next door neighbor is a dentist, his wife is a lawyer, they get food delivered very often, they are busy working.

If they can afford it and it works for them then power to them. I do drive up and go for almost all of my shopping. I like to get out of the house, but when there's a variant like our current one I have to be very careful. It wouldn't bother me to see a neighbor get so much food delivered, but I'd wonder what they're eating, cause I'm nosy.

Yep, DD does. Not everyday but a good portion of days. She does have the Door Dash sub, monthly pay, whatever it is. So that saves her some. She lives in a big city but after working all day, she is mentally drained. So she and her roommate will take turns ordering. The roommate is a godsend for DD. She is a former gymnast and is really a healthy eater. So she is making sure DD has regular grocery store runs. DD has disordered eating and having this roommate keeps my momma alert down. She is making sure DD eats and has food in the house. Pretty much what they order to deliver is healthy(ish).

I order food occasionally, but I don't find the markup to be terrible. The delivery fees can be, but between a DoorDash membership and Prime's GrubHub thing, it isn't terrible. I consider tipping the price of being lazy (or in the case of this week when I am on my 2nd order in 2 days, one for groceries and one for pet food, the cost of being sick).

Other than pizza on a rare occasion (maybe once a year for delivery), I pick up any food we are eating. The one time I had food delivered was when a friend wanted Wendys and we were stuck in New Jersey without transportation for the afternoon. Took the guy two attempts to find the place, took almost 90 minutes and the food was cold. Not a fan.

Man, I read my post the next day and I sound so freaking judgemental. Yo each their own - I'm sure there are a 100 reasons why they could be doing it.
I didn't know about the subscription fee you could pay, that makes way more sense.

We don’t do delivery (food and grocery), but we do go out and get take-out a couple of times a week.

I'll admit to using Doordash 1-2 times a week. I live by myself and I'm lazy. I usually get things like Chinese food or Indian food, which come in large enough portions that I can eat it for several days.
Every once in awhile I'll have a weird craving like fried oysters or sushi. I'll Doordash that.
Yes, it is a lot of money.
My dad doesn't drive (he's 83) so he gets groceries delivered once a week and he Doordashes sometimes too. Like when Instacart forgot his beer- he doordashed that from Meijers. He likes to order Chinese food, too. I am so glad these things exist- he can still do everything for himself. Uber is a blessing, too. He doesn't have to depend on me for everything.

Quit spying on me ya creep. Yeah, I mean, I don't cook, I work full-time, and I have 5-6 kids in the house, all of whom have activities. If my husband is out of town, it's delivery, baby, or we're all gonna starve.

My son's company pays for all dinners and provides breakfast and lunch if you are working on site, otherwise they pay for them if wfh and his wife's company pays for ALL meals. They both work for big finance companies, different ones.
I don't think they have cooked more than 2 meals in their kitchen in all the time they have lived there

I am super cheap, so I always go to order Uber Eats, then see the price and then decide to cook For a few years there, my BFF ordered Uber Eats twice a day, everyday, and I think she said her bill was about $1400 for her and her partner. She was a new VP at the time, working 12 hours a day, he worked crazy hours too. My grocery bill wasn't all that much less (for 4 of us though) and I had to spend hours and hours preparing it. Worth it to her, and I totally get it!

Last week my son had a Chipotle order delivered. It was $28 for a burrito and a bottle of Coke. I was (and still am) appalled at how expensive that dinner was. Totally not worth it.

We do food delivery 1-2 times a week. Since the pandemic started, I have been doing grocery delivery for 90% of our groceries. I love them both.

I was doing grocery delivery regularly long before Covid. I do food delivery once a week or less at home, but regularly when traveling for work if I stay in an Airbnb or hotel without room service. My hourly rate is exponentially greater than markups and delivery fees, so if I’m working the more economic option is to have something delivered vs losing an hour of billable time.
Next door we have a house full of tech bros. There are constant deliveries all hours of the day and night but they’re all young and single and presumably making the bucks, given the industry they’re in.

I order groceries a lot, especially in the summer when I don't have as much time to shop in person or if I need things from multiple places. I generally only want to go to one place personally so anything else I will order.
Very rarely do I have food delivered, usually at work less than once a month we will all go in for some burgers from the vegan burger joint.

I guess I’m cheap too. My company will send us delivery company gift cards and I’m always shocked at the total. I’ve only ever ordered when I get a gift like this. Or, I’ll give the gift to my son. I do notice when I’m walking the neighborhood that a lot of trash cans are overflowing with takeout bags.

When I’m in Calgary we order through Skip The Dishes around three times a week. Got into the habit during Covid. I do feel a little lazy but it’s so convenient. I don’t find it super expensive-many places have free delivery over a certain amount. When we used Uber Eats in Palm Springs it seemed to cost a fortune.

Know how old I am? I remember when people were judgmental about online shopping, particularly Amazon. Like the rest of us were just lazy. LOL
I get delivery. A lot. I use subscriptions and deals, and don’t use places that jack up their prices. I figure it’s like paying myself to not have to meal prep and clean up. I have 3.5 hours from the time I get home from work until bedtime. I’ve got things I’d rather be doing, not to mention other chores that need to be done.

We try to keep it to once a week. That said, I just ordered bagels and cream cheese from our favorite place while still lying in bed. I think that was the second food order this week.
I had been getting my groceries delivered for a long time, but I’ve gone back to curbside recently to cut down the expense.

Since I’m in medical lockdown, I get my groceries delivered. I do use DoorDash every once and a while but everything is so expensive I’ve cut WAY back

Our neighbors get their groceries delivered all the time. Not only groceries, but their teenagers order McD's and other fast food consistently. Sometimes two times a day. I can't imagine the delivery fees on those.

One thing I've learned reading this board, there are a lot of people with a lot of disposable income.

We did Hello Fresh for a while and I enjoyed the convenience, but I hated the packaging that went a long with it. I save so much money living in a rural area where things like Ubereats aren't even an option. I am lucky that my husband and I both like to cook and are good at it. I can see where a lot of people rely on takeout or delivery because cooking is not their thing.

I recently paid for a yearly subscription for Kroger’s grocery delivery. There are certain times each day when Kroger does their own deliveries and they will not let you tip. Other times the delivery is with Instacart and tips are added.
They were running a special on the subscription for $49 a year. Shopping online and having groceries delivered will save me more than $49 a year in gas and impulse purchases.

We do. A lot. All groceries are delivered and we get food from restaurants delivered all the time. We like the convenience of it and can afford it. We are debt free and like to eat good food without doing the prep work or cleaning up.

Summer 2020, right after Covid first broke out and before the vaccines were available, this was our house. We had two college kids living in our house, one of whom worked and the other who got money from her dad and they would door dash all the time because the food we had at home wasn't appetizing to them, lol. And trying to explain the mark-up to college kids who have a craving and money to burn was a waste of breath.
I had groceries delivered because my BIL lives with us and he's medically disabled with a heart condition and we couldn't risk him getting Covid. So we did our best not to go out and be around a lot of people. And with three adults and two college kids living here, there were bound to be times that I forgot something in my delivery so BIL might make his own through Instacart from Aldi or whatever. So it wasn't unheard of for us to have multiple deliveries in a week. DH and I are not rich by any means, and neither is BIL, but it wasn't all that expensive to do here.

I don’t because I’m cheap in that area. But my older kids use it often (maybe once a week or once every two weeks) it was awesome for my daughter who just had a baby. But it is expensive. I even cringe how much it costs for pizza delivery. But not judging… people can judge me for my Starbucks drinks or eating out

Nothing delivers out here but even if they did, I can't imagine doing so unless we were ill. I use grocery pickup but we rarely get takeout.

My son (College) uses Door Dash a lot as he HATES the food at his campus. My MIL (recent widow) does DD because she is just too worn out to cook and can't think of what to make. We do our best to keep some money in her account for that because she is grieving and can't really afford it. She does call when she is going to order so we can talk her through what choices would be good (Diabetes) and how she could get several meals out of some things if she plans well. It makes sure she eats so we go with it for right now. We live across the country so I can't just go over and make her meals or fill her freezer. It is expensive though and not something we personally do for ourselves.
