We live across the street from a rental house. Ever since they moved in a year ago their garbage is constantly overflowing. At first I thought it was moving with boxes etc. But they have the large garbage can and their recycling is always, both, full to overflowing.
Anyway, the weather is nice and I sit out front now and read. In three days I see across the street: day one: two separate fast food deliveries: day two: grocery and a fast food delivery; day three: same as day two.
Who can afford this? And it explains some of the trash.
I did ubereats once when I drunk and craving chicken wings. The mark up was 40% plus I gave a $5 cash tip when he showed.
Even when we order food, we go pick it up because the mark up is insane.

I get groceries delivered. Every once in awhile it works out I get deliveries from different grocery stores the same week.

There are lots of people who can afford that. Some families and persons don't really cook or meal plan and do take out a lot of quick or quick meals from grocery stores.
Eh no judgment from me. When dd and dd have been inpatient (one time for 2 months) dh and I ate out all the time. 🤷♀️

You can pay for a monthly membership to cut down on the delivery fees, it ends up being cheaper if you order a lot of delivery.

I have a friend who ordered everything for two years because she was so afraid of Covid ... then she convinced her husband to go to the grocery store ... she still goes almost nowhere ... I refuse to live in that kind of fear ...
Anyway, I live alone and I don't always want to cook ... sometimes I have a double order of pork dumplings delivered from my fav Chinese place ... I eat my way through the dumplings for the next day or so ... I'm OK with that!
I certainly don't order everyday and I don't order from somewhere like 7-11 ...

I can’t imagine doing that but admit I am cheap. We do pickup but not delivery. We are able to go pickup snd would rather save the money.

I live alone and do take out quite a bit but have never used a food delivery service other than a pizza from dominos.
I have only had groceries delivered once, it was an instacart order from Costco that I did during the height of the pandemic when I was trying to get somethings for my parents also. After they delivered them to me I had to drive most of them an hour away to my parents, so it wasn’t like it really saved me any driving but it did save me from having to go into Costco prior to vaccinations.
I often think it would be so easy, especially when I am working…but just can’t seem force myself to pay the fees. Not sure why? I waste a lot of money so it isn’t that. Hahaha. 🤷🏻♀️

I've never ordered Uber Eats. But my 17yo son and all his mates use it All.The.Time! I like the idea, because I'm lazy. But I guess my stinginess takes priority over my laziness, because I'm not prepared to pay the mark up for having it delivered. The people across the road get their groceries delivered every week. I know this because my dog starts barking like mad whenever the delivery truck pulls up, bot because I'm spying on them. I enjoy grocery shopping, so I don't use that service either.

While I personally don’t partake in delivery services… we don’t even get pizza or Chinese food delivered… I would think they are a godsend for people with mobility issues or other ailments that making going out or cooking difficult, or the elderly. Before my Grandma passed (she was 95) family often worried if she was eating enough. But if family could rotate making orders, the piece of mind would be well worth the extra cost.

We don't get delivery because I'm too cheap and always go for pick up. Our widowed neighbor uses UberEats and other services all the time. He has a few different addresses and sometimes forgets to make sure the food gets delivered to the right place. More than a few times he will text asking us to grab and enjoy the food at the door across the street.

I know a few, who pick up take out, go to a drive thru or get delivery..... almost daily or multiple times a week, for food and-or a fancy beverage. Some for more than one meal or fancy drink a day. I know a few, who get take out, drive thru or delivery every day for lunch, instead of bring lunch to work.
Personally, I think it's all about one's income, priorities, schedule, desire for convenience, don't want to cook, don't want to pack a lunch daily or stock their work drawer, cupboard, etc... with work food and snacks.
Personally, my priority if I have extra money to spend, is to buy scrapbook supplies or skin care and make up products.
To each, their own.

I stayed with my sister for a couple of extended visits back home in 2019/2020, and my older nephew ordered lunch nearly every day through Uber Eats or similar. He’s a Uni student who lives at home and works night shifts at a factory on weekends and during vacations, so has a lot of disposable income, and he likes the convenience.
We rarely do delivery. We used to do pizza when we had both kids at home, but not so much since it’s just been the two of us - we’re more likely to go out or get take out. We did delivery last night for the first time in our new area, as DH put his back out just before we were leaving to go out to eat, so ordered from the restaurant through Lieferando (German food delivery company - we don’t have Uber Eats here) instead. It was so easy, i wondered why we hadn’t done it before, and will likely do it again, especially during winter or when DH travels.

We order directly from the restaurant apps and they are cheaper, price is what it is if you went in picked it up with the exception of approximately $5 delivery fee plus tip. I have tried some of the food delivery places like uber and doordash. Gosh, they markup each item $1-2 bucks, have delivery fee, tech fee, tip etc, and yes, very expensive. Maybe the person is disabled and can't really stand long to make meals.

I don’t really like to. It wasn’t long into Covid where I decided I’d rather eat cereal or make a smoothie than get a meal from Door Dash. I just don’t like how it taste with hot things not hot or the condensation making textures weird. Having said that my dh orders all the time. He works for a tech company that always provided quality meals pre-Covid. But he’s primarily working from home and he rarely has any time for a break so he orders so he can eat in his home office. I’d offer to make him a lunch, but apparently my sandwich doesn’t make the cut. 🫤

I could see me being a big delivery person if I didn't have Jeremy. He's the one who always runs for our takeout and buys our groceries. At the very least I'd have some kind of grocery delivery because I have grocery store anxiety. I did grocery pickup before the pandemic for a long time. But since COVID, so much has been out of stock that he had to do the shopping because my orders were always missing stuff. I wish supply chain issues were fixed so I could have reliable grocery pickup/delivery

Dinner, no. Groceries, yes. I love ordering them online. Best thing to come from the pandemic, though I did Costco beforehand.

Eh we do. Certainly not that much, but usually 1-2 times a week. Occasionally more if things are crazy for whatever reason.
I don't usually have groceries delivered, I go pick up my order. But I have done it maybe a half dozen times over the last couple of years.

I did a lot of grocery delivery and “takeout” delivery when I was sick last year when I was sick. I’m still dealing with back and shoulder issues so I will often at least do grocery pickup. They put it in my car and my kids bring it In the house when I get home. Also my ds23 hates drive through. He will happily pay a markup.
FYI if you have amazon prime you can get grub hub free for a year - delivery fees of course, not the cost of the food. This just started in July.

My dd and her roommate door dash a lot. I was kind of appalled when we visited them in June. However I quickly figured out that my daughter is actually eating when she gets door dash and that in the end it is probably saving her money. They are in school 8-10 hours a day and all the food that they would buy at the grocery store would end up in the trash because they never really had time or energy to cook. DD found a great noodle/bowl place that is quite healthy and she orders from it a lot. Beats the crappy frozen pizza, pop tarts and cookie diet she was previously eating. So now I send her door dash gift cards.

We eat out once a week and we usually have it delivered. I'm 100% grocery delivery. I have never enjoyed grocery shopping and I can only go on the weekends when it's really crowded and takes forever. Even the curbside option is always full and takes at least 30 min to get it out to you. So I will happily pay $5+tip to have it delivered.

We get takeout delivered at least once a week. Occasionally more often. The 4 of us typically order from the same place, but occasionally DH and I will order from one place and the kids from another...so there will be 2 deliveries the same evening.

My neighbor does at least 4-5 times a week. In the 2 years he's lived here I've honestly only seen groceries brought in when he's going to have people over to BBQ. Single guy, so I suppose it's just less work to have it delivered and possibly cheaper then having all kinds of leftovers he may just end up throwing out.

DH has been replacing the kitchen floor, so we have a couple of days of all meals "out". I have been doing online grocery shopping for about 15 years. We get pizza once a week - we have recently transitioned to using a local pizzeria that is nearby, so I go pick it up. The distance I'm willing to walk while carrying a couple of gigantic pizzas is NOT very far. When we order out from other restaurants (not usually very often), I have it delivered.

Nope, I have no food delivered. I am single and often don’t feel like cooking at the end of the day so I’ll stop and bring something home. People spend money differently. Some think I am nuts for spending my disposable income on my horse. I think some people are nuts for buying ice cream makers. Chacon a son gout.

We use Doordash way too often. My husband works weird hours and travels a lot. My daughter is a university student. I quit cooking dinner for people who either weren’t going to be home, ate a late lunch, or whatever. So now it’s a bit of a free for all at my house and we rely on delivery too much.

I get my groceries delivered. I have a bad knee and am in constant pain. I work and on my day off I try to stay off my leg and grocery shopping is that last thing I want to do. Uber eats I use every once in a while, not very often.
