I'm in the process of buying furniture soon and to be honest I have not bought any in a while. I am looking to get a good set that will last us, preferably fabric instead of leather. Where do you get your furniture or what brand do you like best. Looking for a recliner as well.

For moderately priced furniture, I like Living Spaces. They don't work on commission, and they have free delivery. The show rooms are huge with a big selection. The set up is one area has living room sets for bigger rooms, then they have an area for smaller rooms. They also have a contemporary section. And then they have bedroom area too. They carry a lot of designs from well-known celebrities on HGTV. Lots to choose from. I also like to look at Macy's. Not a big selection, little bit more costly than Living Spaces, but good quality.
ETA - Looked them up, and Living Spaces is not nationwide, but they ship nationwide.

Are you looking to buy in TX or where you are now? Also, are you wanting a complete set or are you willing to mix & match to get the look you want? Where you shop will depend on budget as well. We've had good luck with some small pieces (bedside chest, coffee table) from Wayfair. Our last designer chose them and they have held up very well. There's also Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, West Elm. Ballard Design has nice designs. My bar stools are from BD and they are still going strong 10 years later. I have heard mixed reviews on their upholstered & custom pieces though. And don't rule out IKEA. We have some wood pieces that are 13 years old and survived an international move. If you are buying in TX, then I can give you a different list. I found this list of online furniture stores that might give you other ideas: 12 best places to buy furniture 2022

I do a ton of online shopping, but for seated furniture, I just don't think you can beat actually sitting on it. Do you have a decent selection locally? You might also check facebook marketplace - make sure you select local pickup or you'll just get all the online sellers. My cousin had incredibly luck furnishing her new apartment through fb - people sell things so cheap when they don't want to pay to move.

I am downsizing after a divorce and will be needing to buy a bunch of furniture for my new condo ... I'm in Canada but I know that you have Ashley and Laz-E-Boy which are a couple of places I'll be checking out ... There is also a really nice smaller company here called Urban Barn ... if I make enough money from my house sale I might buy some things from there I agree with **GypsyGirl** that you can get some decent things from IKEA if you are careful ... I have a solid wood bookcase that will be coming with me to the new place and my bedframe is also from there Have fun shopping!

but for seated furniture, I just don't think you can beat actually sitting on it. . I agree with this. A few years ago we bought a Lee sectional through our designer. There wasn't one like it at the design center to sit on - big mistake. From the time that sectional was delivered, I hated it. Last year DD moved to a larger apartment and almost the entire living the designer came up with is now sitting in DD's living room. She's happy and I'm shopping for new living room seating now. We are going with 4-5 chairs and a big ottoman as that will work better in our space. So great advice - try to buy seating that you can test out beforehand.

I prefer Laz-E-Boy furniture. I bought my living room furniture from there 14 years ago (fabric) and they still look great. I have a recliner but it doesn't look like a typical recliner...it looks more like a chair but it does recline. I find it takes less space than a traditional recliner.

I cannot recommend Room and Board enough. You can anything in a huge selection of fabrics and leathers. Very well made and stays looking nice for years.

I even sat in the recliner-rocker I bought and I still don't like it. It just doesn't fit my "room" well!! Good luck!!

I have all lazy boy. A fabric sofa in the living room and den, a fabric recliner(basic), and 2 leather recliners with all the bells and whistles. I also have a coffee table and two end tables. All of it has held up really well for many years, but we are empty nesters, so no little kids!
I agree with being able to sit in the furniture you want to buy.

We replaced almost all our living room furniture a couple years ago and I bought our sofa from West Elm plus chairs and coffee table from Article (which is excellent value) and a table, velvet chairs and accessories from Anthropologie- I’m very impressed with Anthropologie furniture.

Hoping to buy at least a couch and recliner before my knee surgery so I can have a place to sit comfortably. I am willing to mix and match. I just don't feel comfortable ordering a couch or recliner online. I was looking at stores here in NY but a lot of the stores they don't have in Texas.

As a short person, I definitely have to put my butt on a seat to make sure it is comfortable and not too deep.
Right now we have a sofa in our family room from Ashley that is still looking pretty good considering the kids, cats dog etc.
I don't know how furniture made now holds up compared to the quality we used to get. So many things are made to be replaced after a few years, not sure if the same holds true for things like sofas/chairs.
I will say a friend of ours bought a denim sectional from Pottery Barn back in 2001 when she was still a young single and I saw it in a FB photo of her tween boys, still going strong, although it has been relegated to the basement game room. I think she got her $$ worth.

I just bought a sofa from interior define and adore it. If you sign up for emails or order a swatch I think the regularly have 15-20% off. It’s a tiny bit spends but the velvet is so plush and the couch is sturdy. I don’t know a better word for it but it’s thick and feels like it’s going to stand up.

we JUST bought living room furniture - measure your space - we have a very small, poorly laid out room and had to be sure to get stuff small enough to fit. And I agree - sit on it and make sure it's comfortable for YOU.
We bought our couch and loveseat at a local furniture store - and got exactly what we wanted..firm, not too deep, and easy to get on and off of. DH's swivel rocker/recliner came from Big Lots - he had to assemble it but comes in two pieces and wasn't hard. My push-back recliner in my craft room I bought online from Home Depot and it's just what I wanted - small footprint, doesn't look like a recliner, and comfortable

La-Z-boy, particularly for the recliners.

I would never make a big purchase like that on line. Being able to sit on it and try it out for comfort is vital but for me so is being able to feel the fabric, the exact color etc.

I just bought new furniture a few weeks ago. Mine came from local furniture stores and are pieces from Rowe / Robin Bruce. Well-made and SO comfortable.

If you like modern/contemporary furniture, Copenhagen Living has beautiful things. They are in Austin and San Antonio, as well as Phoenix, AZ.

We had an Ashley couch and loveseat in the family room. It was junk.
The La-z-boy has held up wonderfully. We ended up replacing the Ashley couch with a La-z-boy.
