While we were away, ds23 executed a challenge that’s been on his mind off and on for a year. He decided he wanted to bake 1,000 cookies in one day. He chose Nestle Tollhouse because it’s a tried and true recipe. Sadly he doesn’t like chocolate, so he’s not going to eat any of them. His plan is to share them. He started out doing the math and procuring ingredients. He created his own self-imposed rules (mom’s rule is always “don’t burn the house down”) , only allowing the butter to come to room temperature overnight. He made a Jenga tower out of said butter Got up at 6:00 am, baked for 15 hours and… mission accomplished! I love his creativity. ETA here’s one more picture brought on by hmp comment. He put himself on the side of the milk jug 🤣 Also he’s loving all your comments! 🥰

That is so awesome, what a smart and fun kid!
I'm with him. Chocolate chips cookies are not all that. But I'm sure all the others who get to eat them will appreciate his project!

The hardest rule for me would be the "No eating as you go" one. I can't resist a nice warm cookie!

Look at all those cookies, if I lived closer, I'd put an order in. Good for him for completing something he's wanted to accomplish & he made it fun, too.

I have my mother's cookie recipes. She gave boxes if home made cookies to her brothers and all other males in the family for years every Christmas. Baking started Nov 1. chocolate chip cookies freeze well, very well.
Another thing she experimented over the years, determining which cookies could be made with margarine with no difference in flavor or texture and wrote the recipe cards accordingly. Nestles Toll House cookies are fine and dandy with margarine, she used Fleishmans... It saved her a bundle with the hundreds she made ..
Congrats to your DS!! Job well done!

And I haven't heard "jimmies" since we moved from PA (actually, before or since) 😀 Every night the cats get their "bedtime jimmies" which came from adding a few sprinkles of dry food onto the wet food. The first time I saw sprinkles listed as "jimmies" at the grocery store, it became part of our household lingo. Unlike jawn, though I can appreciate that one.

You probably should know it...it was even on McDonald's billboards along the highway! "That's my jawn" with someone eating a cheeseburger and fries or something like that. Lots of restaurants using the play on words. I never used it since I'm not from there and didn't want to be guilty of cultural appropriation! But jimmies, yes I stole that one. 😁

Oooh, Nestle Toll House is my go-to chocolate chip recipe! It's so funny because every time I make cookies for anyone outside my family, they (cookies) get rave reviews. I tell people it's "just" the Toll House recipe, not one I invented myself, but they still think they're the best cookies ever. I guess because I use a cookie scoop and the cookies are beautifully round, that somehow makes them better? Love the butter Jenga picture. Now I want cookies. It's supposed to be cooler here tomorrow so maybe I'll do some baking! LOL Merilee

That’s awesome! And I don’t even want to know what that Jenga tower of butter cost at today’s insane prices! 😱😱😱
I make a lot of cookies at Christmastime but I don’t think I’ve ever made 1000 in a single day. Maybe in a long weekend, with my brother’s help.

LOL Merilee The use of a scoop definitely helps, but fun fact: if you ever have ugly misshapen cookies, you can take a large round metal cookie cutter and “swirl” the warm cookie inside the cutter right when you take the pan out of the oven and it will make it all nice and perfect! 👍

What a fun and creative idea! I'm impressed that he chose a cookie he doesn't even like. It's not easy to bake for 15 hours straight, especially in the summertime. It's a very cool accomplishment!

I'd take a dozen or two! ETA: I drive a ton through metro west and Boston... so it would be easy to get cookies!

That is some serious baking dedication! I'd also be hard pressed not to sample a fresh and warm from the oven biscuit or several along the way.
