DDs and I are spending 4 nights in Denver. One of those nights we’re going to a concert at Red Rocks, and plan to take a shuttle there and back.
we will be exploring the city and surrounding area as much as we can on foot, or by public transport.
I’m looking at hotels, and would love guidance on which area of Denver to stay in.
and if there is a “can’t miss “ thing in Denver you want to tell me about, please do.

Be careful if you go downtown Denver. It used to be the place to go but it has gone downhill and lots of homeless/drugs. I just heard on the news that visiting downtown has gone down like 30% from last year. (Although given Covid who knows how skewed that number is).
I don't know of shuttles going to Red Rocks. (maybe you have that set up already) but Red Rocks is amazing! You can Uber it as well. Depending where they drop you off at, be prepared for an epic walk up if they drop you at the bottom.. It's not a fun walk. Try to see if whoever is driving can drop you at the top. Then you go down to your seats instead of going all the way up and then back down. If that makes sense.
There is the Denver Museum (not the Natural History Museum) which is nice and gives a good history of Denver/Colorado.
Places to see in Denver area: If you do go downtown, the places to hit are 16th Street Mall (free shuttles up and down the mall), Larimer Square which is right off 16th Street, LoDo Historic area by the Rockie's Stadium (catch a game? it's a very pretty stadium), Union Station.. all these are close together.
There is the new Meow Wolf Museum.. I haven't been but hear it is awesome.
For fancy shopping there is the Cherry Creek Mall and Shopping District. The Cherry Cricket is a great place to eat and kinda historical. I actually ate there a few years ago and 30 minutes later the place went up in flames. Literally.. lol... it's all better and opened now. It's been there for like 80 years or something like that.
Golden is awesome for walking around.. Very pretty. Woody's Pizza is the place to go there. You can do the salad/pizza buffet or order off the menu, but the pizza is great. You can do the Coors Brewery Tour which is free.
If you want mountain time.. Georgetown is a quaint town, not to far from Denver but gives you the feeling you are in the mountains. Lots of Victorian homes. Cute main street with shops. A few cute places to eat.
Boulder is fun (but crowded) but Pearl St. is fun. There is also McGuckin Hardware store. It's not your mother's hardware store.. haha.. It's amazing. I love to wander in there. And lots of one of a kind gadgets.
You can go to Blackhawk/Central City for gambling in the foothills.. (but not sure if your daughter is old enough...??) or your thing. It's a pretty drive just to go up there.
Where to stay? There is a very pretty Drury Inn on I-70 and Central Park.. That is kinda a central location (not too close to Red Rocks though)... Drury's are always clean (IMO).. There are lots of fancier hotels if you want to stay near downtown.. Grand Hyatt is very nice (probably pricey?)
HTH!!

AND I just saw you are using public transportation.. so maybe some of those things are out. Sorry!!
Mountain stuff is probably out. Golden and Boulder are pretty far out for public transportation. (it is doable I just have never done it)
You might want a hotel that is near the Lightrail. I'm trying to think of a decent place.. I will get back to you.

I stayed at The Maven and loved it. Its a boutique hotel in a historic building in lower downtown.
I loved down town I also loved the River North Arts District but it totally depends on your style. City felt very clean and safe. Its walking distance to restaurants etc. I went with my 21yo last year and we loved it.

Thank you so much, both of you. DD is 39, so no worries about adult things!! Maybe we could take an Uber or public transport to the areas mentioned, but stay down town. I have a lot of research to do!

I had no idea there was a shuttle to Red Rocks. I've never seen one there.
Rockies game - Coors Field is beautiful and the team sucks, so not too crowded
Meow wolf is crazy, but interesting. Over stimulating for some and some areas are beautiful

Some friends also stayed at the Maven and loved it. The Denver Botanic Gardens is spectacularly beautiful and would be easy to get to. The South Pearl Street district has great boutiques and restaurants, and a farmers market on Sundays. The Denver Art Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art are fun also.

If your daughter is into Instagram worthy spots - The Maven fits the bill - the block is super neat and it has a good Mexican place for easy eating

I have no advice but want to go to Red Rocks for a concert so bad, that venue looks unreal. Tyler Childers is playing there soon and I would love to go but between flights from canada and concert ticket prices I can't justify it. Who are you going to see? Hope you have a fantastic time!

The concert is The War on Drugs. I absolutely love this band. I’ve been to several concerts at The Gorge Amphitheater in Washington, and often hear it compared to Red Rocks, so I’m very excited about this.

I am going to see Brandi Carlile at red rocks next weekend. I really want to see her at the Gorge too! Stacy

Red Rocks is a great concert venue. That's where I see most of the shows I go to. Give yourself plenty of time before the concert to get in there! Not only is the traffic bad, but depending on where you end up, it takes forever to hike inside. If you or your daughter have asthma, don't forget your inhaler. I would avoid Union Station right now. Denver is having a lot of drug & crime issues. Union Station is a hot spot. I used to take the light rail into Denver by myself to meet up with people with and always felt safe. Right now I wouldn't ride the light rail alone or walk around a lot of downtown (especially the capital or Union Station areas) alone or with another female, especially at night. Old Towne Arvada has been all redone and it's really cool now. There's a great restaurant called the The Schoolhouse down there. The Botanic Gardens are beautiful! The Denver Art Museum is really good too. If you like baseball at all, Coors Field is a great ballpark to see a game in. I hope you have a great time!
