After spending 14 hours with her in the ER. They didn’t even get us a room, nor test her, until after waiting for 8 hours. Because she is elderly and fell on Saturday in her bathroom, they assumed that it was something else even though she was coughing and complaining about her chest hurting.
It has been a positively horrific experience because there was no room in the ER or in the hospital once they figured out that she has COVID.
I feel like I have been put through the ringer.
Mom, thank heaven, is holding her own and her oxygen is good, but her mental abilities are so diminished that everything is distressing and confusing and I’m not allowed to visit anymore (like 14 hours with her in the ER wasn’t exposure enough).
COVID sucks.

I'm so sorry. I hope you get to see her soon. Can they arrange a video call so she can at least see you?

Omg, I'm sorry to hear that! Is she local, or did you have to travel somewhere?
Hoping that she recovers quickly!

Omg, I'm sorry to hear that! Is she local, or did you have to travel somewhere? Hoping that she recovers quickly! I moved her from California to assisted living in Rockville, MD in 2019 - right before COVID - so she is only 1 hour away. My husband is going to have to get her out of the hospital most likely, because I am now teaching full time (fingers crossed I don’t come down with it too).

elaine so sorry to hear about what your mom and you are going through. Wishing your mom a speedy recovery and you some peace. **** Sorry to hijack... I have a friend, in her 70s, who was admitted to the hospital on Saturday with Covid, with all her shots/boosters(not sure about the new one). She started Paxlovid on Tuesday after testing positive and a telemed visit. She has prior lung damage from 9/11. I haven't heard anything since the Saturday text.

She is 87 though with severe cardiac issues. She is in assisted living and doesn’t see anyone outside of the facility but me and I haven’t been since school started 2 weeks ago, so someone brought it in to the facility. It is an awful disease. I hope your friend recovers quickly!

Elaine, I'm sorry. I hope she feels better and recovers quickly. Did they start her on Paxlovid? I think there are a lot of drug interactions, though, so maybe she's not a candidate.

Her blood work showed impaired kidney and liver function, so no Paxlovid for her. ☹️ But, her blood ox levels are still in the 90’s, so all is good. The concern is her fatigue & weakness and that security had to come and rescue her when she fell in her apartment Saturday night. She is resistant to physical therapy, so I’m going to have a battle to fight on the front to strengthen her.

If she isnt strong enough to return home after she recovers from Covid, shs will likely be sent to a sub-acute rehab, where PT and OT will be the focus. Prayers for your mother and your family.
