Another thought is to donate it to a youth or high school theater program.
A ballroom style wedding dress was perfect for dying yellow and transforming into Belle's gown in a school production of Beauty and the Beast.

I intended to make christening a dress out of mine then I thought maybe one of my DD’s might like it or use parts of us for their wedding dress but that didn’t happen. 32 years it’s been upstairs and I’ve still no idea what I’ll do with it 😊 I love the idea of a christening dress. I threw mine out. I hated it. I want to get married in blue jeans but my mother threw a fit so I just grabbed any old off the rack white dress. Wore it for an hour and trashed it. We got married in a beautiful little church but it was a Vegas wedding.

This thread got me motivated to figure out what to do with my dresses. I found THIS WEBSITE which will take your wedding dress and make things for you. Just in case anyone is interested.

My wife sold hers on Ebay and donated money to the animal shelter. It was a gorgeous dress from princessly and the girl who bought it was extremely happy with her purchase too. Hope they have a good life together ahead.

If your child/ren are christian another idea instead of a baptism dress would be a first communion dress. My daughter wore my first communion dress that I found out later was made from one of my mom's dresses (not wedding) at the time.
My daughter also wore the same baptism outfit as I did. I have photos of my son in one of my DH's baby outfits (not sure if it was for baptism, it was blue).

I had mine professionally cleaned and boxed right after the wedding and have periodically opened up the box to look at it. It’s still pretty and very princess-y. DD wanted to see it when she was about 6-7 years old and totally loved it, so I’m hanging onto it in case she actually wants to wear it some day.

I donated mine years and years ago. Only once since have I wished that I still had it, and that was strictly for a matter of moments. I knew I'd never wear it again. I figured it was highly unlikely any daughter I ever had might want to wear it. So I donated it. It may have gone on to be a wedding dress for someone else, or a costume, or a "trash the dress" dress, or reworked into something else entirely. I don't know. I just know I'm glad I gave it a chance to be used again in some way. Now, there was one day when the topic of wedding gowns came up in my family, and we realized that I have my great-grandmother's dress, and my aunt has my grandmother's dress, and my mom has her own dress, and we realized we could have photographed 4 generations of wedding dresses together, which would have been fun, but it's not something I'm crushed to have missed out on, because realistically, it would have been difficult to carefully, safely pull off that photo anyway.
