This is so fucking disturbing. This is a high school in Texas.

How frightening! But how do they know that those kids were all legitimate students? I would have thought they would have at least asked if there was anyone in the room that didn't belong there. Or maybe they did and I just didn't hear it. A shooter could have taken a seat at a desk too and had a weapon on his lap. I guess if there were a shooter in the room, the kids would have spoken out with the police in the room, counting on the police being faster with their weapons already out and ready. Although if a gunman was sitting next to me, I don't know that I would have been able to talk at all!

When I"m hearing them ask "everyone good?" I'm thinking maybe they thought there was a hostage situation?
But OMG. What a world we live in.

The exact thing happened at my kid’s HS a couple of years ago. Very similar footage. It was because of a false bomb scare from an anonymous tipster.
It was scary. :-(

I have no children or grandchildren in school.
I am horrified that any children have to be exposed to that.. But being shot is far worse.

Each person who entered the classroom was dressed differently, how is anyone to know who is who or if they are even the good guys?

At my elementary school, we had professional development today and received active threat training, in preparation for a lockdown drill later in the month. We talked about locking doors and not letting anyone in. If a kindergartener gets left alone in a hallway, how am I supposed to say, sorry, but you can't come in? I hate that we're preparing for these scenarios.
As a side note, we had professional development today because today was our state primary and the high school is a voting place. The voting wouldn't interfere with a normal school day, we had to close because in NH you're allowed to bring guns to polling places. And the lack of gun safety laws is one of the major reasons why we had active threat training. SMDH

I guess it would be a judgment call in that moment.

I guess it would be a judgment call in that moment. Years ago when this all first started, we taught the kids to hide out in the bathroom and pull up their feet. They were also told to look for the safest spot they could find. I don't know, these kids have a hard time finding the bathroom much less understanding the importance of hiding. It is all just so sad. Every time we had a drill (and sometimes we didn't know if it was a drill) they came by and shook our door to see if it was locked. There were some really scared kids.

SMDH When my oldest was in high school, two of their classmates got suspended because they let a friend into a room when the school was locked down. They ended up getting their suspensions lifted, but it took a few days, and the whole experience was bad. What do we expect people to do in that situation?

We went on lockdown today as well. The threat was outside the building, but still...
It is so normal that we just kept teaching.

Each person who entered the classroom was dressed differently, how is anyone to know who is who or if they are even the good guys? That's exactly what I thought! That last guy who walked in with his backwards cap looked like a regular good ole boy slinging his AR15 on his way out for lunch in Texas.

I can't imagine experiencing lock down drills or armed police being part of everyday life.

At my former district we had lock down drills.
HOWEVER.... -parent conferences = ALL DOORS UNLOCKED and open. No checking anyone -parties = Parents are to register prior, enter through the front doors, but in/out through any of the 40+ doors in the building bringing in supplies.
So not so safe!

I hope they catch whoever made the 911 call, but I'm glad the police were able to arrive so quickly and amke sure everything was secure. I'm surprised these kids don't have to wear uniforms which I thought was the norm for this district. We are zoned to this high school, but my son went to a different high school that required uniforms.

My current school does not have uniforms but all previous ones did. BHS does not, either.

I am so sad kids have to go through this. They should be enjoying their school years, not fearing for their life.
