I particularly love this bit. Republicans in Congress are such hypocrites.
“ In the CNN piece today that collected all those quotations, authors Edward-Isaac Dovere and Sarah Fortinsky went on to point out that, despite their insistence that government investment in infrastructure is socialism (it is not, by the way), all these representatives and more have been quietly applying to take that money to their districts, often in the same language Democrats used to justify the bill in the first place. Improving highways would “serve as a social justice measure,” Emmer wrote. “The completion of this project means improved economic opportunities for ethnically underserved communities.” Adding bicycle lanes to a rural area, Mullin wrote, “would greatly improve sustainability by reducing emissions and redeveloping an existing infrastructure plan.”
The president has directed his administration not to let politics or votes for the bill influence how project grants are awarded. But for all their talk of socialism and wasteful spending, Republicans clearly understand that the American people want investment in the country and that such investment improves their quality of life. They just don’t want to vote for it after years of rallying voters with a narrative that any Democratic investments in the country are far-left radicalism.
Today Biden named the Republicans who voted against the infrastructure law and then asked for money. Biden said, “I was surprised to see so many socialists in the Republican caucus.”

I love this line at the end and agree 100%. In the Washington Post, columnist Karen Tumulty concluded that while Trump was outrageous, “there is plenty of fault to go around. The Republican Party’s refusal to denounce him makes them complicit.” Yes! I'm not sure what it will take to get back to more sensible Republicans. I have heard talk of a split into 2 parties, but many more will have to speak up for that to happen. Most of the Republicans who I thought would say, “You’ve got to be $#*tting me,” when Trump got elected ended up kissing his generous backside. Now the nut jobs have have taken over the party. It’s alarming that the same folks who vote for these people are in possession of lots of firearms. If Q is a real person and not a bunch of frat boys making up stuff to see what kind of crazy $#*t people will believe, he (probably not “she” and definitely not “they”) could probably get elected in some states. 😖

I don’t know where all of the level headed people have gone. Just really hoping that the midterms go our way!

I don’t know where all of the level headed people have gone. Just really hoping that the midterms go our way! I don’t know what to think. Had a conversation with our elderly conservative republican leaning neighbor at the cabin last weekend and she said she’s just not going to vote at all. While she said she’s (now) disgusted with Trump, she just can’t stomach “voting for the corrupt democrats in Illinois” whatever the hell that means. I said, “You do realize that not voting at all gives more weight to those who DO vote, right? The republican party is pretty much now the Party of Trump.” I’m pretty sure she’s on board with most of the republican platform of God, anti-gays and greed, and from some other conversations we’ve had she gives off an anti-immigrant vibe too. I guess I have to console myself with the reasoning of if she doesn’t vote at least she’s not voting for anyone who could contribute to a republican majority in the house or senate.

I love the fact that Bobb is now cooperating, and I doubt that Trump will be able to wriggle out of this one. It sure looks like they have clear evidence that Trump was avoiding giving those docs to the FBI.

So true
Biden’s National Security Strategy reiterates his belief that we are in a global struggle between democracy and rising autocracy and that the world is at an inflection point that will determine “the security and prosperity of the American people for generations to come.”

This part is so important
Like the Wilmington plotters, Trump supporters insisted they were defending the nation from a “stolen” election when they attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021, to cancel the results of the 2020 Democratic victory.
It was not so very long ago that historians taught the Wilmington coup as a shocking anomaly in our democratic system, but now, 124 years after it happened, it is current again. Modern-day Republicans appear to reject not only the idea they could lose an election fairly, but also the fundamental principle, established in the Declaration of Independence, that all Americans have a right to consent to their government.

Lots of important warnings in today's article.
The popularity of the Democrats’ agenda and the unpopularity of their own appear to have pushed the Republicans to go for broke, courting their base by demanding the utter destruction of Democrats’ policies and the reinstatement of their own.

I saw a report that more people are paying off their monthly credit card bills in full.. another good sign of the economy I thought that was while getting stimulus… I remember seeing that a lot but recently it seems people are putting more on cards due to inflation. I haven’t seen any real numbers. This is the only place I have seen that they have more money I guess my question is do they have more actually have more money after bills? If you gets 3% raise but inflation is 9% it doesn’t really help. That said I want to believe that they are doing better. More people are working and less on unemployment so that’s good especially since you make more working than on unemployment. Not me Got laid off in May of 2020 and started collecting unemployment. Applied for over 200 jobs and finally got something in March of 2021. I'm making less now than I was on unemployment, believe it or not. Maybe once you factor in benefits I'm probably evening out. But as far as money going into my bank it's less.

She paints a great picture of just how extreme the Republican party has become.

Let's hope this holds true in the midterms
At our most successful moments, Americans have backed not the vision of the Confederates but that of Lincoln, working to create a government of laws, not of men, and of equal access to opportunity for all.
