Our Kenmore dishwasher is 20 months old. Has been acting up for a few months, so had a repair person come out yesterday. It needs a new control panel and top rack $331! So, he thought we may want to consider a new one. He said appliances don't last like they used to.
Any recommendations? I don't want a Bosch. We tried one and it was so small, I couldn't fit many dishes (and we have 3 kids that go through a lot of dishes!). We had 2 weeks to try it and it only took a day, then we returned it. Or do they make bigger ones now? I hear that work well, it's the size that bothered me.
What do you like or not like about your dishwasher?

I don't know if you have the brand Neff in the US, but when we were remodelling our kitchen, this was the brand out kitchen supplier used. I spent ages going over all the stats in their catalogue as there were lots of very similar machines, but I noticed that one had the same external dimensions, but slightly more internal height, so I chose that one. This makes all the difference, as it means I can get two rows of full size mugs in one section (there is a row with a shelf so you can stack two layers of dishes, one above the other) whereas anybody else I've seen with any dishwasher, can only get small cups or glasses on the top shelf. It's well worth looking in to when choosing a new one.

Love my Bosch! It is whisper quiet and washes really good! I seldom even rinse my dishes.

Get one recommended by consumer reports. Even top rated brands have some real winners and some losers in their lines. You want to make sure you're getting a good one! I like to get their buying guide that compares models and then shop in person looking at the ones in our price range.
We have a kitchen aid one that I like, but I didn't put it in the house (it was here when we bought our house). I hate the bottom rack though. It has weirdly spaced slots and a wide open back part that makes smaller things slip through. It's really a poor design. The dishwasher itself is good though and cleans well.

This is a great idea. I have to lean our wine glasses a certain way to get them to fit safely and I didn't need to do that in our other house. It's annoying and takes away room from other things needing to go in there.

My dishwasher is 12 old, we are renting so we can't replace it. I hate it. The dinner plates we bought when we moved in here doesn't fit. It is loud and my daughter always puts it on delay start so that it goes on in the middle of the night well. I can hear it in the bedroom and there have been times it scares me right out of bed.
If I could replace it I would replace it with a Kenmore whisper quite dishwasher. I love our washer and dryer. I have had Kenmore dishwashers before and loved them........ Your dishwasher should have lasted longer than 20 months. I would check with Kenmore to see if there is a recall or something on the part before replacing with a new dishwasher. I would also check your warranty.

We also have a Bosch (came with the house) and unless they changed the capacity or the racks, I wouldn't choose to get another. It works fine, but it holds a ridiculously small amount of regular dishes. As for pots and pans? Not unless you have NOTHING else to put in there but glassware, because the racking on the bottom makes no sense whatsoever. When I'm doing dishes, I want everything that can go in there from cooking an average meal to fit in there. I don't think that is unreasonable. Also, does everyone's dishwasher take 1:20 to wash a single load? I even asked DH if it would be crazy to install a second dishwasher in our laundry room (would be very doable) and he thought I was nuts. But then again, I don't think he has washed a single load of dishes since we moved in, so he doesn't get to judge!

I've had a Kitchen Aid in my last three kitchens. Not the same one mind you but I love them so much it's my brand of choice when buying a new one. The one I have now holds a ton of dishes.

That's what we did with this one! I love it except for the problems related to the control panel. Maybe we just got a bad one. I wouldn't mind getting the same one again, but worried that the line has a control panel problem. We get the Consumer Reports magazine and I will look at what they recommend this year.

Thanks for the input! When I bought this one, I brought dishes with me to make sure they all fit. Learned the lesson with the Bosch!
The repair man recommended getting a cheap one and keeping up with the warranty. He said he just fixed a ladies washer (or dishwasher) that was 3 yrs. old and cost $1,800. She already has an $800 problem! He said she bought the extended warranty.

I wonder which Bosch model you had. I have one that holds 17 place settings (and I have tested that!). It has the 3rd rack for silverware so that basket isn't taking space away from the bottom rack. It's a feature to consider looking for if you clean lots of dishes regularly. What mod Definitely check out Consumer Reports. My first Bosch was their top recommendation the year I purchased it about 10 years ago. It is still going strong at my mom's house (we remodeled). What model do you have? I will have to check it out if you say it holds a lot! I couldn't fit many pots and pans in the one we had.

I just purchased a Bosch a month ago and I am in love. I absolutely love the 3rd rack for the silverware. It is so quiet that I often go in there when it is running just to check, lol.

We just did a full kitchen gut & remodel & chose a whirlpool Gold Series. The controls are all on the top & hidden under the granite counter top...takes some getting used to. It's so super quiet I have to open it to see if it is running.

I love my Kenmore Elite Stainless Steal Dishwasher. - haven't had any problems with it. Me either! We have an open floor plan home, and I can never hear this thing running. Last night I started it, and wasn't sure it started. I put my ear to it and still couldn't tell! The light came on though so that was a big help. LOL!

We bought the LG Studio (Second one in that top link) and we have had it about 6 months, and I have zero complaints. I really like how it loads, all the options for putting down prongs, the 3rd top rack for knives, and it is so quiet.

This is the newest version of the model I have. I noticed that the new models have an interior light! That sounds useful to me. If you want to spend a bit more, then then next step up (SuperSilence Plus) has folding tines on the 3rd rack, making it even more useful. But I love my 3rd rack even without that. I will say that a Bosch is not set up on the inside like most US dishwashers. It can take a week or so to get used to loading them. However, they are excellent dishwashers. There is no heating element, so it dries by condensation. If you use enough Jet Dry, then that really isn't a big problem. I love that I can put plastic on any rack and not worry about it melting. I would be neat if stores had dishwashers on display fully loaded! I wouldn't be opposed to a Bosch if I could fit my usual amount in the dishwasher. And interior light sounds so helpful! It could be that I have a set way of loading and can't imagine how I would load it differently. I don't have a creative side that's for sure! Thanks for your input on the Bosch. Very much appreciated!

My Maytag dishwasher was a nightmare. My GE Adora is a dream, stainless inside too. I sincerely hope whatever you choose is the best dishwasher you've ever had.

We've always had Kenmore other than one lousy GE that went back after a week. It actually made the dishes dirtier. Next one will be a quiet model one way or the other. Our new house has an open layout and I can't run the dishwasher while anyone is watching tv or we can't hear it. And I won't run it when no one is home or when everyone is sleeping.

Do you not run it when you aren't home or are sleeping because you worry about leaks? Or is it a fire hazard? I am guilty of running while we are out or sleeping. But I have a big fear of fires and water leaks, so I am curious if that is the issue.

While I don't have a recommendation for which one to buy, I do have a recommendation for which one NOT to buy....... don't buy another Kenmore. I have a Kenmore Elite and have had a lot of problems with it.

We have a KitchenAid. It is very quiet. We had a Kenmore and it died a few months ago and replaced it. This one is so quiet you don't know it's on. It was not the most expensive one note the most quiet. It is awesome, though!

We just bought a Whirlpool. Service guy who looked at our old one told me that 90% of his service calls are for Samsung dishwashers.
